So there I was building my new BUG Dredge deck and it came time to add in the land. So I actually dug through 1000 or more lands looking for the lands with art I liked the best. Does anyone else have to have pretty lands or do you guys just grab some?
Land is land. As long as I can tap it for the correct type of mana needed, I could careless the picture on the card. For all I care, they could take the art work out all together and just have words on a card. The art doesnt do anything for me.
I have a Deckbuilder's Toolkit box full of Zendikar, foil, and foreign language lands that I use for all my decks. I just give regular lands to my lgs for drafts at this point.
My land art depends on what kind of deck I'm building. For Commander in my Kemba, Kha Regen deck all my Plains have Mirrodin art on them and for my Heartless Hidetsugu all the Mountains are from Kamigawa.
I refuse to play land if I do not like the art. For example, I find the dual lands art to be quite boring, so I see no need to obtain them, since I would never use them. I also beg my friends to let me use my pretty altered art Island in my non-blue EDH decks because I love its art so much.

It is important to have white-bordered lands, to piss off the one guy at your LGS that gets pissed off when he sees white-bordered cards.
Trust me, there's at least one guy like this, and chances are you want to piss him off
Plains - John Avon - 230
Island - Jung Park - 235
Island - Vincent Proce - 237
Swamp - John Avon - 238
Mountain - John Avon - 242
Forest - John Avon - 246

Lol this, there's always that guy who gets pissed off/annoyed over white border hahaha
I usually use lands from the same block as my deck's cards. Also, I almost never use Shadowmoor lands... they all look ugly to me. Conversely all the Zendikar lands look great, as do the Shards of Alara Bant plains cards.

I use my unhinged land mostly, sprinkling in some foil basics(I can't believe I forgot how beautiful the foil kamigawa mountains were!). I want to start collecting the ZEN lands so much. I hope, wish and pray that they will someday put out borderless full art land cards.

yes everytime. and i'm ocd about it being the same art... so sometimes when i don't have enough I have to start over again.
I refuse to play lands I don't like. Generally the priority goes Unhinged foil > Unhinged > foil promo (e.g. Arena) > Zendikar, but I've been known to make the odd exception. Also, all my lands having the same art is important to me (doesn't apply when I'm down to Zendikar tier though, it's mostly for promos and exceptional land usage like how my Xiahou Dun deck uses these). For instance, my Standard G/W deck doesn't have any of my Unhinged Forests in it because I don't have enough of them, so it has Unhinged Plains alongside these Forests.
tl;dr I'm almost OCD with how I approach what lands I use.
Also for Limited I just use whatever my LGS has in the land pile. Only real thing there is I try to get all old frame basics if possible.

Tony.
Also, its importat to have only one or two whitebordered ones so its enough to show up freuently but it only looks half <retarded> not fullon <retarded>
Please don't use 'retarded' in that manner. ~parinoid
Every copy of every card I own in a particular must be the EXACT same, not just basic lands; set, art, condition, foil/nonfoil, etc., including lands. My main EDH deck, for instance, has all the (very few) basic lands as the exact same (for each land type) full art Zendi lands. Still working on getting 30+ plains that are exactly the same for my mono-white EDH deck though; that's a pain.
My two Legacy decks have no basic lands, so I don't worry about those (LEDless Dredge and Budget Doomsday Sac-land Tendrils), but any card in multiples is exactly the same (FTV foil Cephalid coliseums, 7th edition duresses, tempest lotus petals, weatherlight gemstone mines, etc).

I have all my foil/full art lands in a separate area. I'm a flashy guy, so unless I'm playing Limited, I'm using the more collectible lands that I have.

I actually keep all basic lands (foil and non) that I like the art of in 2 binders. Each specific card art has 1 page dedicated to it with up to 36 copies of each basic I like. Then as I am constructing a deck I flip through the basic land I need and pick the one out that best fits the theme (if there is one) of the deck I am running.
As for my favorites, in general I love the art on the Shards of Alara basic lands the most.
I like matching basics so that when your opponent sees your hand and you draw a land and play that new one your opponent did not see you are not giving him free information.
I tend to only use the old foil basic lands from Invasion to Onslaught because they're so gorgeous. It got to the point where I started raiding stores for stacks of old foil basics.
I tend to match them as much as I can, but sometimes I run out of specific ones.
Limited=Zen Full Arts/Whatever is in the box
Constructed=lolwut?
