I have questions about choosing images for use on a custom playmat.
I am aware of the necessary dimensions of an image to fit on a standard playmat (1746 x 1026 pixels). I am also trying to see if I can get ahold of the original artist's permission even though he/she does not do this for a living and most likely does not speak English.
I just need to know how I can run into color and/or quality issues in my choice. I am spending 30 bucks on this after all, so I should make it the best it can be.
Actually, wait.. The design template works for GIMP?
The problem with them is if I am to make sure the image works and all that it'd cost 40 for everything. Plus I'm not going to pay $10 just to see what it would look like, that's just bull****.
Please make sure you are supporting the artist who's work you are reproducing. Those guys need to eat. I'd suggest emailing them before you reproduce their work and see if they sell playmats directly, or they can give you written permission to print one (probably for a small fee). Or maybe they would give you the OK if you buy a print from them.
Remember that being an artist is difficult. It doesn't pay steady or regular, and these guys create art for our game because they love doing it. But they still need to pay rent.
who really cares? i don't and i really don't wanna waste allot of money on a mat. if you want a mat done by the artist go to a grand prix where they are and pay 40 or 50 for a custom mat done by them or you can go to a site listed in this thread and pay 10 to 30 for one.
