Could you maybe PM me that picture as well? I have been looking for a website that can do this for me for a while now. Also, I was wondering if you thought that the Plate Mat that artscow has would be better, because it is a little larger.

I had a friend's dad airbrush me a playmat. It is a picture of Sonic The Hedgehog battling Robotnik in The Doomsday Zone for any of you familiar with Sonic 3. Turned out pretty good IMO.
I've been wanting a playmat of Time Reversal for a while now, so I ordered one from artscow.com as a "custom door mat". After I ordered it, I realized it was 3/16", which seemed a little thick, so I also put in an order with custommousepad.com for 24 pads at 1/16" thick. I've found about 10 other people (on reddit) who want a playmat of this as well, hopefully I'll be able to sell off the extras. If you're interested in one, PM me. :-D
I'll make sure to post pictures and review each one in the thread here. I'm interested to see what the quality differences are.
Some artists will take full painted playmat commissions if you want original art done. However, this could cost you $1000+. But they are stunning and certainly will last - I've been using and loving mine for close to a year now. Here's a picture:

As said in our PMs, 3/16" is still extremely thin. From looking at it, it appears to be about two mouse pads stacked on top of each other. Which to me seems still very thin. When I think door mat I think almost half inch thick. and that's before you get to the top layer.
EDIT: Yeah rechecking it at work, that is still very thin. I'm still going with the small door mat. I am curious to know how the top feels.
I'm sure you are right about it being just fine/usable, etc. The main thing I was worried about was ease of transport. If it rolls up into a smaller tube, it'll fit in my bag better that I take with me to "nerd night" as my wife calls it. :-D Since I'm insane and will have both, I'll be able to compare. I've got a son who plays, so I'm sure both versions will be used.
I'm sure it would roll up, but it is 2 feet wide, that could be more your issue than anything lol. I get paid in just a few days then I can get my Tolarian Academy one ordered

I can share these if anyone is interested via ArtsCow, but that means you'll be a guinea pig too
Yea, I dont think that shops could print on that stuff. You could always have it drawn on by some one. There is this guy at my lgs who will take your blank playmat and draw, ink, sharpie a magic pictue on it. You could find people like that...

I believe you can get one here. They are performing site maintnance now, so you'd have to email them, but if I remember correctly it was $50 (don't remember if that included shipping though).
Confirming that this place is pretty awesome. I went for the $30 one here: http://www.erolj.com/products/playmatXpress.html. Got it within a week and it looks great. I think the $50 option is only if you want them to add text/effects on their side which seems unnecessary.
Any idea why artscow gives you so much free ****? Not that I'm complaining, I'll take a couple free tote bags to carry around my cards/binders in, thank you very much, but it seems weird that a site designed to make money is giving away SOOOO MUCH before you even place your first order with them.
@evilgordo thanks for the coupon code, making it even cheaper.
[edit] hmm, looks like if I use the coupon, the totes aren't free. Meh, Either way its a pretty decent deal, I think just one bag and one mat is awesome for like twenty bucks.

There are a lot of fees associated with erolj. I'm surprised they don't charge you an online processing fee, an interaction fee, and a post-print fee.

Ok... Well I got charged $30 for the mat and ~$5 for shipping. That might be more for shipping than strictly necessary but I'd count it a good deal all around. No idea what your experience with them is.
My "doormat" from artscow came in today. It looks really nice, I like it. The top of the mat feels... fuzzy, if that makes sense. Not flat and rubbery like a mousepad. It's okay though, it'll be fine for putting cards on. Here are some pics:

Yeah custommouse pads is where I was going to buy from first of all but that whole minimum order business was ridiculous. It is def sharper, that might be the material on the door mats vs what they use. Either way, but are better than anything you get stock
Pros - It is big, flexible, high quality, washable, and durable.
Cons - because it is the small door mat, the top layer is clearly felt cloth. Its not a bad thing, but the picture is not nearly as clear or sharp as it could have been, had it been say a large plate mat. Trade off is though, this is much larger than a standard play mat, and the plate mat is smaller than your standard mat.

Dave Allsop has a lot of his art on his DA site, I'm planning on using Beast Within, as it is one of my favorite card arts.
