Let me first start out by saying I will be selling none of the cards. I have only been playing for a month or so, and want a booster box for the cards/thrill of opening the booster. (mostly the cards)
Do you guys recommend buying the new RTR? I heard there will be a lot of reprints... If that's the case, would I be better off buying an older box for like 20 dollars cheaper? I just want to build a decent deck with cards I found, rather than purchased directly. (I feel that's cheating)
It all depends on what you want to do with them...if it's casual, find a set that has cards you want in it and buy that. If you want to play Standard, RtR or Innistrad are your best bets because of the wealth of playable cards in both. Otherwise just go with what looks good!

There are almost no reprints in RTR. Something like 5 percent of the set is reprinted (other than the shocklands, which are valuable enough that anyone should be actively happy to open them) which is about average.

If you want it for the thrill of opening packs, then buy a box of Avacyn Restored.
I would personally say that you should probably buy depending on the format you are playing. For example, if you are playing Modern, obviously stay within the range of the cards used in modern. Same goes for Standard, etc.
I personally would go with Innistrad because it's got some pretty decent cards in it.
RtR might be a good choice too though, considering some of the rares (mainly shocklands) will most likely be worth a bit of money and could easily see play.

Not going tog throw out my usual arguments against buying boxes/packs because it never goes anywhere productive. Just know this:artificlally limiting yourself makes you a worse player.

I write about cube and run cube drafts on magic online.
However, sometimes you will find good deal on boxes such as Russian Conflux, Japanese Morningtide, Italian Future Sight etc for $100 they are definitely worth to buy too.
Id go with RTR. If you can't wait 2 weeks and can afford it, buy either Innistrad or Avacyn Restored like everyone else said. All three of these have great cards that you will use no matter what format you play now or will play eventually.

Really? I have found that limiting myself has made me a better player. If my Standard-legal deck can beat the no-limits deck in the group, then I have done a better job than they have, wouldn't you think?
I have found that I am a much better player by "playing with one arm behind my back". When I am cut loose without the restrictions, then I am that much better.

Well forcing yourself into limits for temporary periods of time can for sure lead to growth. Like forcing yourself to play mono-red burn/beatdown even if you go 0-X 3 times in a row till you become the next PSulli is a great way to learn. But when it comes time to play for real, limiting yourself by definition lowers your chances of winning.

If you end up getting a Bonfire of the Damned and a Cavern of Souls or two, you can just trade those(with a little cash maybe) for a RTR box
I know you said you don't want to sell cards but that's selling 3 CARDS for a whole box, plus you get to open 72 packs for the price of 36
