what do I hate in this game? wannabe pro rogue deckbuilders who get incredibly smug towards anyone standing on the real pros shoulders. guess what chump change, if you thought up something that's hot **** there's a good chance one of the guys on the PT or SCG circuit thought it up first, then scrapped it.
Take your monoblack deck, then set aside 14 swamps. Add 4 Creeping Tar Pits, 4 Darkslick Shores, 4 Drowned Catacombs, and 2 Jwar isle Refuge and add 4 Jace, the Mindsculptors. Your monoblack deck is instantly better. Better yet, drop those refuges, throw in some islands and some mana leaks, and lo and behold, you're now playing a real deck. Congratulations. Welcome to the world of competitive M:TG.
I hate it when the People who use to play 4 jace and 4 stoneforge mystic in their caw-blade deck, and today play 4 snapcaster mage, 4 restoration angel, and some number of cavern of souls in their delver deck tell me that they can't get into legacy because It's too expensive.
In my looking around on other sites discussing Magic, once in a while I see what appears to be a sentiment of "rare and mythics, everything below that s crap!"
If you are talking about deckbuilding, this is just stupid thinking. Commons and uncommons have their place, hell, in many cases are VITAL for a deck to function correctly.
I kept trying to say how much I don't like standard but it kept sounding really negative.
Yeah, I don't like it. It seems stagnant to me.
You know the only thing less stagnant than standard is block constructed right? A huge chunk of standard rotates out yearly.

For me it's most of the notions circling deck building:
Decks must have exactly 60 cards (maybe 61 but probably not).
Decks must have exactly 24 lands.
Decks must be made up of expensive cards to win.

When you are giving general guidelines to a new player those are fine and dandy. But when you start talking trash on a deck based on these very negotiable criteria before you see it perform, grates my nerves. If I consistently have enough mana with 18 lands, I guess I did alright with my land ratios. If I consistently win with a deck that has 66 cards, I guess those cards might not have been a bad idea.
Let the results speak for themselves, and most of all don't complain that you got beat by a bad deck. Obviously the deck and player that beat you were doing something right that game, or you were doing something wrong. Did you get manna jacked, well then your ratio is off or you didn't take full advantage of mulligans. Did they top deck a win? Well that's because they crafted their deck to survive long enough to get their win con.
People who ignore flavour simply because something sounds cool in their head, at this current moment in time notably anything involving the words 'Jace is going to be blue/red in Return to Ravnica' on the basis of him standing next to Niv-Mizzet. When Gatecrash starts getting previewed, it'll be "Gideon is going to be red/white because he is in Boroslolz."
Well to be fair Gideon does have the Boros signet worked into his attire so there is that....
