So I often see uncut foil sheets of X set given away at larger events... and to that I almost always shy away from it. Even if I won... WHAT WOULD I DO WITH IT? Has anyone had experiences with winning a prize like this? I mean it's not like you can go and get the think professionally cut for cheap and have the cards remain in value. What else would you do with it? Frame it as nice art? Resell?
Actually you probably could get them cut out pretty cheap. Most full-service binderies could cut them out and round the corners in about 10-20 minutes. You just would have to know someone to get it done. Heck a good kinko's may even have all the equipment necessary.
It's mostly for braggery, really. It's something rare that not a lot of people have, so people often frame them. Or donate them to charity auctions and the like. I'm pretty sure there was a foil uncommon sheet or something like that auctioned off at the Desert Bus for Charity event this year. That's what I'd do with a foil sheet. I'd frame it, or just give it away to an auction.
Yeah I guess I would have framed it when I was in college, but now that I own a house it would stick out like a sore thumb. I would likely try to get it cut... but sheesh would I be nervous about it.
It's a collectors item generally. Have you seen that uncut beta sheet at WotC headquarters? That thing is absolutely stunning to behold. The same can be said for sheets made today; I wish I owned an entire sheet of a specific set to frame it and put it up on the wall.
But yeah uncut sheets are generally collectors' items.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Stunning to a MTG player. It would look like garbage as a piece of decorative art.
I disagree. If you had a framed, uncut sheet from a Magic expansion, people who knew you would know why it was up there and why you framed it. People who didn't would undoubtedly ask what it was. Art isn't just whether or not something is nice to look at. It should encourage discussion, which an uncut Magic sheet hanging on a wall would do.
I'm not saying put it above the mantle surrounded by photos of the family dog, but there are plenty of places you could hang something like that and have it look good.

I hung the one I won in my closet... I feel like that was a fair compromise.
Oh god please do not cut the sheet. You will take a very valuable item and turn it into something that you atfirst may want but will not be worth it in the long run. If you get an uncut sheet and dont want it please sell it. NEVER CUT IT!!!

That's a very good point ♥
I would consider a framed uncut sheet like a framed record, yeah it's more memorabilia than art from a technical point of view, but its meaning to the homeowner elevates it. It's better than people who just buy a piece of random art to match their couch.
I sold the ones I won at worlds. A friend and I won a foil Rare/Mythic and foil Common uncut sheet of Inninstrad. Would have been nice to keep but the only use is to hang it. Selling it was the better option in our eyes so we did. They do look awesome though.

There were actually a Foil Common, Uncommon, and Rare/mythic sheet auctioned off. I believe the common sheet went around 3,000 if I remember correctly.
And I would definitely frame it for decoration or something.
I'm going on record right now and stating that before the end of 2012 we will see foil dual lands in booster packs (The real, Alpha dual lands). You can quote me on that.
if it hasnt been said already, a foil uncut sheet is worth way more than the cut foil cards.
But WHY? I really don't get that. You can't do anything with it other than frame it, and if it's a crappy set, you wouldn't nessessarily want that even. If I won one, I'd sell it too... but it blows my mind that they actually fetch high prices.

Because foil uncut sheets are much rarer then a foil set. And the most of the people who are looking for foil set are collectors, who primary buy cards just for the sake of collections, it stands to reason that they will be more willing to pay a higher sum for the rarer uncut sheets than a foil set.
It's still not colorless, and has no color. That's a paradox. So either you're a Zen master or an idiot, I'll assume the Zen master for sake of argument. This card will have no paradoxes because it has a clear paradox. Deep stuff man.
Fair enough. I guess though this thread proves that there are quite a few of these things floating around. But I guess if you're a collector, you'd start wanting to get as many "complete" sets as possible.
The latest Comprehensive Rules are also good, and can be found here.

Kind of my point.
A sheet of New Phyrexia wouldn't exactly be something you'd want to put next to little Jimmy's playhouse.

It's a collectible, if you won it, it's a trophy. If I had one I'd frame and hang it. If I didn't want it any more, I'd sell it.
The notion of "cutting it" as if that would give you more value than selling it, is absurd.
