VERY unhappy about the "foil deck box". It cannot possibly hold the deck...sleaved.... apparently they expect us to shuffle a all foil deck with no sleaves....DISAPPOINTING.
I don't think Wotc has ever given us a deck box that will fit sleeved cards. It is maddening. I don't mean the Ultra Pro MTG themed deck boxes that come with sleeves, I mean boxes that are packaged with decks sold directly by Wotc. This includes all the starter decks, precons, gift set boxes, Duel Decks, etc. They know we use sleeves, why can't the pretty boxes they spend so much money designing and printing hold our sleeved cards?
When we first heard about this product I sent an email asking for them to be sure the special foil box would hold the cards when they were sleeved. At the time I figured it was probably too late for this Slivers set, but maybe for the next one? I won't hold my breath. It doesn't hurt for more voices to send them a friendly note saying we'd really appreciate it.

That was half my point of posting it. I already e-mailed wotc about it. Maybe if we can viral enough support the next one won't be so horrible. The box looks sweet! I guess I can use it to hold my token cards..
P.S. I would, in fact, blindly obey all laws in Nazi Germany. If I didn't, I'd get shot. My life > My values, and many other people will say the same. Lrn2history, plix.
I definitely must agree, I mean how bloody hard is it to make the damned, cheap little boxes a 1/4" bigger to a side or whatever it takes to allow them to hold sleeved-up cards. The Duel Decks when I and my friend were testing out the Jace vs. Chandra ones we wanted to sleeve them but then the cussed things wouldn't fit in the damn boxes, but we didn't want to damage the cards, so eventually sleeved them up and just forgot about the boxes and found other means to transport them, but it was an unneeded hassle. How much more would it really cost to make the little deck boxes big enough to hold sleeved cards? I'm really curious about that.

The Duelmasters boxed set was able to fit sleeved cards. Maybe Beatdown as well, though I'm not sure.

Yeah, but if they made the box big enough for sleeves, they'd be under-cutting sales to their partner Ultra-pro.
And, for the other side of that coin - for people who don't use sleeves (hard to believe they still exist, but they do) making the box larger would be a bad thing for them - they don't want their cards flopping around in an oversized box.
Yeah, but if they made the box big enough for sleeves, they'd be under-cutting sales to their partner Ultra-pro.
Yeah, another thing is that the packaging was designed before they knew what they were going to put into it. The foil deck box was probably just an afterthought.
Just curious but is the Sliver deck going for anything above MSRP? It doesn't seem like it since eBay sellers are selling it around that price.
Given that it releases today, I think it's too early to make that call. Check back in a week or so when we'll probably say "no", a month or so when we'll probably say "yeah, a little," and this time next year when we'll be saying "duh, of course."

As has been pointed out, right now it's readily available for MSRP. I'd hold onto it and make the decision in a year or so (I mean, I'm going to hold on to mine because that's what I do with Magic cards - I keep them, but I can certainly see the circumstances under which I'd decide to sell it).

The problem with trying to sell this for any kind of profit is it's only going to go up in the sense of it's a novelty. There's no real 'grab' in it that says everyone will want this or have to have it. Had they put foil Zen lands in it ... I think people would be ravenous over it.
I can see these selling for the next year at MSRP - they weren't flying off the shelves at any stores I went to today.
For reference the Anthologies gift box, Duel Masters, and Battle Royale sets all go on ebay now for $150-$250. In ten years time I think this will fetch a similar value, if you want to wait that long.
I kind of want to pick one up to pimp out my Legacy sliver deck with some of the foils... but I am not entirely convinced it would be work the money. Then again... I could just hold onto and resell the sliver overlord.

I recently picked up to of the Premium Sliver deck, aside from a few thoughts, I'm liking it so far.
The same trend with the Duel Decks clearly follow this one: It takes two purchases to make the deck viable for play. By getting two i was able to remove the jank like Barbed Sliver and Armored Sliver in favor of the better slivers included in this deck. So far I've taking a liking to the deck and it's mostly been the only deck I've been using for the past few days. While it's not competitive worthy, it plays very well with the group of friends I hang out with and I enjoy it's casual yet playable feel.
Having said that, there are some things I wish Wizards would have done with this set. For starters, I share the same mentality as most of the others in this thread; I firmly believe they should have printed Sliver Queen as the Mythic. Especially since Sliver Overlord is already available in Foil if you can find one.
In addition, while it's nice to have some of the old slivers come back in new frames and foil, I wish they would have included Talon Sliver and Horned Sliver in the deck as opposed to the jank that is Barbed and Armored Sliver. Heck, I prolly would have still bought even if the deck just had a bunch of single copies of old sliver cards and the Queen in it (maybe so even if the Queen was still the Overlord).
Besides that though, I still like the deck and it served as a nice opportunity to get my hands on extras of some of the old Sliver cards. I'm still considering picking up a 3rd and, possibly, 4th copy just so I can have playsets.
i also just picked it up.
im not to happy about wild pair, coat of arms, and rootbound crag filling up rare slots when it the rares could have very easily been essence sliver, sliver legion and reflecting pool. I do think that this might be a good buy if you started playing after timespiral, have 45$ and want to start a sliver deck. I to think that the Queen should have been mythic but then the deck would have probably costed a lot more. So the deck is fun (and shiny) in casual and i feel like i got my sliver fix until the next set with them in it.
1) Sliver Queen was never going to be in this deck. Wizards of the Coast has a reprint policy that prevents them from printing older sets' Rares as tournament-legal cards for general resale.
2) Sliver Legion was deemed to be a Mythic Rare had it been printed in today's format (along with Sliver Queen, but the reprint policy makes that a moot point), so the decision for the Mythic Rare of this set came down to Sliver Legion and Sliver Overlord. Sliver Legion wasn't a centerpiece you could build around, and Sliver Overlord made the best EDH general for a Sliver-themed EDH deck, so Sliver Overlord became the Mythic almost by default. (ARTICLE: http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/64).
So point being: If Sliver Legion were to make this deck, it'd have had to be the Mythic Rare, and WotC felt it wasn't good enough of a Mythic compared to Overlord to be the main Sliver of the deck. (So really, Coat of Arms is their way of using modern rarities to give you both Legion and Overlord, plus Coat of Arms isn't quite as susceptible to removal as Sliver Legion)

Yes, but Coat of Arms does not have a 7/7 body that can receive a plethora of other benefits.
...Coat of Arms isn't quite as susceptible to removal as Sliver Legion)
This is a common misconception. Considering the basic mana cost only, Coat is easier to drop, but beyond that, it has very little benefit. In a void, both are useless, and should never be looked at in such a manner. In the perspective of this deck, Legion is a superior choice.
In a void:
Coat: bounce, counter, suspend, exile, destruction
Legion: bounce, counter, suspend, exile, destruction
**note: Coat will do nothing in a void. Possibly even boost your enemy. Legion however, still gives you a 7/7 with a growing form.
In this deck:
Coat: bounce, counter, suspend, exile, destruction.
Legion: bounce/suspend/exile/destruction(crystalline), counter.
With slivers in general:
Coat: bounce, counter, suspend, exile, destruction.
Legion: Wrath, that's it. Thanks to Crystalline and Root Sliver, Legion is untouchable save for mass-board clearance. That's a UW and a 3G to protect it. With gemhide and those two slivers, dropping Legion is caek.
To protect Coat, you have to have complete artifact protection(privilieged position x2, at a 5CC each, among only a few others), and the only edge it has is a 9CC artifact, Darksteel Forge to save it from mass-board effects. With the aid of Myscosynth Lattice, Legion can utilize this protection too. Making all your slivers untouchable and indestructible.
Short of Apocalypse or Furnace Dragon, there is nothing to remove them from the board. Coat is good, but Legion is better because of the basic design behind Slivers.
