I wanted to gather what do you guys fell are some of you favorite "older" artifacts? Older I mean pre-Mirrodin or old frames. Please give an explanation why they are your favorites.
Please don't count the AB Moxes/Black Lotus/Time Vault we all know they are rediculous!
I think Nevinyrral's Disk will always be my favorite artifact. So many good memories of playing it in mono black casual decks so I could wipe away those pesky enchantments without having to splash Also Temporal Aperture for silly and sometimes broken decks. Back when the Magic Online Encyclopedia was new, I had a truly awful but incredibly fun deck based on that card. Tons of mana artifacts (Thran Dynamo, Worn Powerstone, Grim Monolith, etc.) plus Black for Yawgmoth's Bargain, Red for Covetous Dragon, and White for Gerrard's Wisdom. It was ridic.

The disk!!!! I totally forgot about it! Agree so much power for 4....

I used to collect stuff with Bogardan in the name so Anvil of Bogardan was an old fav. I find it truely funny that the card was made to hose Necro and is now one of the best cards with Necro.
Aladdin's Lamp was the first single card I ever bought. I used to play dumb ramp decks with mana drain in them. So it was never a problem getting mana for it. Too bad it was basically a worse scroll rack with everything BUT Animate Artifact.
Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
Urza's Incubator is the shizzle fo' rizzle. Was one of the big artifacts in my first EDH decks (5 color slivers) and I have yet to trade it off or sell it, even though I have found no use for it. It is such an awesome card for tribal.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
Phyrexian Processor and Cursed Scroll were and still are two of my favorite artifacts. Absolutely in love with the flavor and how they translate into the cards themselves. I also love Su-Chi! It's been a star in my EDH deck with all the reanimating shenanigans. (I realize there was a version off the Processor reprinted in an updated frame but personally I don't count that against it, as it was for a duel deck/special set). Thinking about it, I also quite enjoyed Tanglewire and Dragon Arch. Dragon Arch made it hilariously easy to play all the big Dragons I had from Invasion and some pretty great stuff from later in Invasion Block, too.
Seconded. Though with me, like many parts of the game, my preferences extend to the flavor and its ramifications, and my research has taken me to some interesting places, including with that card.
About any "subpar" mechanics or cards: Context is king.
If I make a templating or grammar error, let me know.
The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.
Several good ones have been mentioned but I've always wanted to drop this jerk on someone. We have a lot of stupid Tinker-fueled decks in our group. I've always relied on Rebuild but this is pretty close.
Another one is Portcullis. You can do some very obnoxious (and political) things with this card, 'specially if you set it up with a mass bounce first.
No love for Smokestack? It lets you punish your opponents for having the audacity to not be you!
Also, Draco. He's so big, how can he not be good? Also a fan of The Rack, and Black Vise

Sol Ring will always be the best artifact for me. Just have great memories of cracking it in packs and it's also probably one of the most powerful artifacts ever printed. Actually barring some crazy interaction with other cards, it might be THE best artifact ever printed.
A close second is Winter Orb as it was the centerpiece of my first truly competitive deck I built from scratch. Great memories of that deck.
And these are also high on the list: Worn Powerstone - see Sol Ring Thran Dynamo - see Worn Powerstone Voltaic Key - creates brokenness Metalworker - broken all by itself, plus my buddy used to have a Metalworker deck way back in the day that cleaned house Fluctuator - never made a Flucuator deck although I've been tempted to a few times. Cool card!
This thread worries me only because you people are calling invasion and nemesis cards "old". I started playing around then so I'm really scared that I'm old too (and I just turned 20 the other day).
Anyway, favorite "old" artifact card must be Naked Singularity due to the odd workings behind it. It really should have been printed as an Enchantment. How can "singularity" be a manmade physical object?

Love it! No other artifact can buy you time to catch up in casual vintage creature based games(except disk of course) like forcefield can.
