EDIT: The following has been shown to be a result of a false positive generated by the app. While numerous apps DO mine contact info, fortunately SCG Mobile is NOT one of them.
Many of you have likely seen the spat in the news regarding certain iPhone apps mining your contacts list when you use them, most notably Path. For whatever reason up until now, Apple has allowed developers to download your contacts list from your iPhone without so much as an alert dialogue to let you know that it is doing so. There's also no way to disable this in settings.
Fortunately for those of us with jailbroken phones a new app has been released in the Big Boss repo on Cydia called Protect My Privacy. It generates a permission pop-up, allowing you to permit or deny apps access to your location and contacts list. Seeing as how Apple is planning on releasing this same feature in the near future, I thought it would be fun to see which apps currently mine this info. Ya know…before they update their software prior to Apple allowing you to see their dirty little secret.
Well guess what? SCG Mobile mines your contacts! They have no reason for doing so since they lack any social features that require it, so in essence they're interested in your info for other reasons…I'll update this thread if I come across any other M:TG apps that also do this, I have yet to test them all.
Jailbroken users can download the Protect My Privacy app to prevent this, but users of the vanilla iOS will have to wait until Apple releases an update in the near future.

I think it would be worth getting documentation and proof of what it is doing and seeing what they have to say about it, I wouldn't doubt it for a second just want to see what they could possibly be doing that for besides selling it or using it for advertisement refining purposes.
This is false and I would like an explanation as to how that program alleges this is happening. My guess is a function of the app is triggering a false alarm, but I don't know how Protect My Privacy actually works.
It's true we do have analytics running for the app based on what you -do- in the app, but this is standard usage tracking done by virtually any app worth it's salt. We also track crashes this way so any crash can be reported and fixed.
If anyone has any questions on how SCGMobile works and what personal phone data it collects (that is, none), feel free to contact me directly at evan.erwin at starcitygames.com.
You're absolutely correct. It seems PmP was just recently updated for exactly this reason (false positives). My apologies for jumping the gun.
