When you saw the title you may have had one of the following ideas cross your mind:
1: pet card? *clicks caus they have no idea what that means*
2: i want to tell everyone how many copies of _______ i have *insert random card*
Now i understand that people have a specific card that they like not because its broken, not because its rare, or expensive. But simply because they like the card, and it holds a special place in their trade book.
This is a place to discuss what card you collect and why, feel free to mention how far you are in your collection but tell us WHY you collect this card, or if theres a story behind it, please share =)
but anyways, when my friend opened his first pack of worldwake, he saw that as his rare and said "what the heck! a 13/13 for... wait, this card sucks!"
then tossed it at me, i saw it and it was just dripping with deck possabilities.
I had to get to work on it.
Ever since then i have collected Death's shadow's. My collection is around 50, i don't remember the exact amount. Whenever any of my friends come across them they pick them up for me and i really appreciate their kindness in increasing my collection.
Mimic Vat. I so badly want to create a deck that uses and abuses it because the times I do throw down a vat and then DoJ and put some fatty on it are priceless. I just can't find a way to make it consistently work.

I don't fear the man who has played 10,000 decks once. I fear the man who played one deck 10,000 times.
Serra Angel. I was 12 when MTG came out, and at that time she was an absolute house. It certainly didn't hurt that she had plenty of cleavage for my pre-teen eyes to stare at. She has remained my favorite card, no matter how many times she's been outclassed.
Rimefeather Owl. My Thada Adel EDH deck runs snow lands largely because of Rimefeather. (Scrying Sheets being awesome doesn't hurt, either.) I can easily put Rimefeather upwards of 20 power, and on a few occasions I've also kicked a Rite of Replication on it, which is just ridiculous. I love my owl, and I rain snowy vengeance on anyone that tries to hurt it!
Wait, it has to be a card I collect? I don't collect more than 4 copies of any card, so maybe I don't have a "pet" card the way you're thinking of it.
However, there are quite a few cards that I would consider "pet" cards for the fact that I would run them consistently while others may have spoken against their power.
Arc Slogger: Don't get me wrong, people knew he was a house, but I don't think enough people truly realized just how great he was. Arc Slogger + one or two burn spells was generally enough to end a game in two turns. He demanded removal. And I don't mean in a Baneslayer Angel kind of way, where the game was simply harder to win if you couldn't get rid of him. Arc Slogger had some bad consequences that lasted beyond the amount of life an opponent gained. He was many times a one-sided Wrath on a 4/5 beater, and all it took was some cards from my library I'd never have had time to cast, anyway.
Pulse of the Forge: I once won a game where the only spells I played for the entire game were 2x Seething Song and a single Pulse of the Forge... five times. God, I miss mana burn.
Slith Firewalker: Ever see the look on the face of a Tooth and Nail player when you T1 a Firewalker and T2->T3 back to back Molten Rains on their Cloudpost? I have. It's Schadenfreude to its finest degree.
Furnace Whelp: This is one card I used to run in my Standard legal Big-Red deck that I never really saw anyone else run, but this guy could get there. When my Sloggers would inevitably run into Terrors, when my late-game Slith might be outclassed by slightly larger ground pounders, this guy got there. Terrible in formats where people actually play Shocks and Cloud Elementals, and way too slow for today's meta, but he used to be insane for me.
Hidetsugu's Second Rite: Honestly, how could you not love this card. I sideboarded 2 of these in a mono-red agro deck in Kamigawa Block, and it was the greatest card ever. Watching people take 2 over and over again from Zozu, Goblin Cohort, Glacial Ray, etc. until they hit 10 life was hilariou. I'd throw this in once in a while just to see if I could pull out the win with it, and it was surprisingly very good. If I were to collect more than 4 of any card, it would probably be this, because I'm willing to bet that it's dirt cheap and one of the most funny cards I've ever used to win.
If you haven't guessed it by now, my "pet" color is Red, and my pet deck is Big Red. I love Big Red decks because they typically involve interactions that don't jive with how most people think about Red. Red is thought of as the neverending onslaught that tries to push through death and destruction but burns itself out in the process, leaving it with very little gas, but there's really some amazing things you can do with red cards that aren't seen very often anymore.
Recently, I have played a Big Red deck that had a proliferate theme. Tumble Magnets, Koth, Everflowing Chalice (before rotation, obviously). Fun interactions with the rest of the cards in the deck. Red has a lot of cards that can work well for interactions beyond "hasty guy, burn you, go," but most of them do not see very much play. Hell, even when that is exactly what you're trying to do, usually no one expects a 6/6 Slith Firewalker dealing them the finishing blow, but when you pull it off, it's fun.
Another one of my favorite cards is Shunt. It's usually been my answer to combo decks trying to aim a gigantic X spell at my face. Basically anything that gives me the ability to interact with, or just screw with, my opponent is what I am looking for. I would say blue is my favorite color, then, but I dislike counterspells, unconditional card draw, and creatures that are almost always bad outside of their niche. Otherwise, the whole "target something else, bounce that, change that color, make him smaller, etc." portion of blue I find to be hilariously fun.
Anyway, that was way too long. I will still never own more than 4 of any of these cards, but these are the cards that I love enough to even come close to considering it.
Mimic Vat and druidic satchel. Both have come up short in every deck i've ever tried them in even though I think the effect is extremely powerful. I gave up on both cards a while ago.
Birds of Paradise, and I have a playset of Ravnica ones. I love the flavor of the card, and the fact that it sees play no matter how broken a format can be. Remember Survival days in Legacy (as dreadful as they were)?

Juggernaut, because he's an absolute boss. Not sure how many I have, but I have at least one from nearly every set, a couple of foreigns, 3 foils and 2 signed. I don't go out of my way to buy them, so all is from boosters/trading.
i collect giant spiders. not much of a reason, i just do. i'd never put them in a deck though. but i have quite a few foils, including some signed and japanese, etc. and some beta ones.
I collect because one day I noticed I had a ton and they were cheap so I decided to collect it. I now have a test print and the original painting form the alpha set.
When I got a little more into deck building I was partial to the flavor and art of flying weenies with regeneration: Mischievous Poltergeist and Yavimaya Gnats.
Many years later, my current favorite pet card that is a powerhouse auto-include in every deck with green: Sylvan Library!

All 3 abilities aren't the greatest on their own but together they make one hell of card. I've used all 3 modes to great effect.
