My collection is starting to get BIG and I wanted to keep better track of my cards what is the best way to go about it? Excel, online? Any help is appreciated!
I like to sort all of my commons and uncommons by set and collector's number. Each block (or set, depending on my number of cards) has its own box. As long as you know what set the card you're looking for is in, you should be able to find your cards pretty easily.

I have them sorted already looking for a computer based inventory guide

I have binders by sets for standard. Binder for legacy and modern staples. A binder for rare lands. Common and uncommons that aren't staples I have in the long white card boxes grouped by set and color.

I just use MS Works, though Excel would do the job just as well I'm sure.
I enter in the set name in the first column, the card name in the second, and the amount I have in the third. Then just sort the set column by ascending and it'll arrange them all alphabetically.
Some of the other programs mentioned are probably quite handy, but if you already have a spreadsheet program, why not use what you already have?

I find that once you make the initial excel database it is relatively easy to maintain. But I suppose take that statement with a grain of salt, because I look for every excuse I can come up with to use excel. I really just love excel.

The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.
I use Excel. I started early when my collection was small, making it easy.
Would you be willing to share your spreadsheet with us? Maybe the layout will be a good starting point for the rest of us who may want to use Excel. There is not point in re-inventing the wheel right?

How does this "DeckBox" work? I just checked out the website, but I can't really figure out what you do.
How??? When I first tried to compile a digital inventory, it kept crashing after 1000 or so unique cards. What the heck do you do?
It's pretty straight forward. You can use the site to track your inventory, maintain a trade list and a wish list. It will also assist in matching up trades between players on the site.
You can also create decks on it as well. When you are in the deck viewing mode it will show you how many items you may be missing or how many of a card you have already for it etc.
When you add cards you can bulk add cards by name and quantity; however, currently doesn't let you specify any more information about the cards. In detailed add mode you can specify many parameters about the card, condition, promo, foil, quantity, etc.
I've been using MTG Studio for a year now and it's been great. Always updated and an interface that caters to the detail found in the cards (CMC, color, rules text, etc.) There's a demo here: http://mtgstudio.com/
I'm having the same problem, I have a little over 200,000 magic the gathering cards and I want to inventory all of them, but I have tried a few Web sites and couldn't find a quick way to do this. Any ideas would be great.
I use the decked app, good for most of the cards, some of the specialty cards like judge promos are not in it, but it is good for taking with you anywhere. Tcgplayer is good for keeping track of everything perfectly, just takes forever to get your collection loaded up into it

It gives an approximation of what your collection is worth and it has a built in have/want system which is nice.
