Basically what the title says. Share your absurd deck lists and silliest win-cons, and explain them if needed


Ok, this deck wins by attacking with Sorrow's Path. The goal is to get Sorrow's Path on the battlefield, get Living Plane (makes all lands into 1/1s) and Sanguine Bond on the battlefield, give the path Lifelink and attack. Armadillo cloak gives it sort of lifelink, and the angel gives it lifelink if it attacks alone. When the path attacks and taps, it deals 2 damage to you and all your other creatures, and since it has lifelink you gain that much life, and Sanguine Bond causes your opponent to lose that much life. If you have 9 other creatures, counting lands, on the battlefield, that's game. Incidental life gain from lands + sanguine bond lets you win with less creatures/lands out, tutors are needed to make a 4 card combo approach consistency, and Battlegrace Angel is a decent win-con on its own.

Remember, I'm not looking for the next great deck, but for silly things that most people wouldn't try.

While I don't want to take the time to post full deck-lists, I made a Shared Fate deck with no in-deck win conditions and a Time-Spiral era poison deck with a few slivers and Mothdust Changeling.

I once tried to build a 60-4 casual deck based around Desert, Desert Nomads, and Donate effects like Vedalken Plotter. This was pre-Zendikar, so it would now probably have Rite of Replication for added lulz.

I may be wrong or have an improper assumption, but wouldn't you have to play hive mind before dropping one of the pacts or you would possibly lose next turn?

^the point is that it "ends the game," not that he wins.

I built a landless deck once. It always ran out of steam. My current strangling is called "Creatureless". It plays ok.

Okay, it seemed a LOT more absurd at the time, before the printing of Glimmerpost and the existence of Modern 12post...

My buddy built a deck with 4 Vesuva, 4 Cloudpost, and it's main win con was Helix Pinnacle. I thought it was hysterical at the time, never dreamed it would be a real thing.

Mesmeric Orb + Terravore + a bunch of Flashback cards. Suddenly with ISD, it doesn't seem like such a weird deck.

I created a decklist with nothing but Biblicaly named creatures and spells and called it "The Bible."

as far as actual decks, my most notorious deck was a creatureless control deck built around Takklemaggot, Feroz's Ban, aether storm and Portcullis which not only made it hard to bring creatures out, but actually punished you severely for doing so. It was NOT a popular deck in my multiplayer group.

and after I retired that deck, i built another, similar deck around armageddon and worms of the earth.

And yes, I have had both combos in one deck, and managed to pull off playing both aether storm and worms of the earth, then laying down wrath of god and armageddon, which basically left the entire table just sitting there for a bunch of turns until somebody manned up and took the damage to bring out lands and creatures.

another deck I made was called "Hot Potato," where I bring out four copies of measure of wickedness and then continually sacrifice stuff to pass them to my opponents. This is an AWESOME deck to use in multiplayer.

I also have a GW deck I made called "One," where every nonland card (and I do mean EVERY nonland card) has a converted mana cost of exactly one, or has a way I can get it into play for exactly one (usually via flashback or suspend). Surprisingly enough, it's a pretty competitive deck. You'd be surprised at all the good stuff out there that only costs one G or one W.

I built this deck as a way to go infinite with Springjack Pasture. Turning my lands into creatures with Natural Emergence is the basis of all the combos. Natural Emergence + Intruder Alarm + Springjack Pasture and 4 mana results in infinite goats. It also works with Natural Emergence + Aggravated Assault + Springjack Pasture and 6 mana. You can either sac them for mana through the Pasture for a huge Fireball, sac them with Last-Ditch Effort, or swing with them with Overrun. You can also make infinite mana with Natural Emergence + Aggravated Assault and 6 mana. The final combo is Natural Emergence + Intruder Alarm + Rakka Mar. Honestly, it wins way more frequently than it should.

I'm guilty of an underperforming wall deck.

Gideon Jura+ Lightmine Field! Wall of Omens, Wall of Denial and Wall of Reverence! Vent Sentinel to turn it aggro!

First deck. I build what I dubbed Mulch Assault, wayy back when Tempest was Standard legal. How much of this can I remember.
It would basically Mulch through the deck and draw tons of lands to feed to the Assault, and was able to reset the deck by milling the blessings from the mulches.


Another deck Naya colors and used Nature's Revolt and Aether Flash to lock out lands, and mana stones to continue casting spells after a Wrath of God.

This deck. It's the greatest combo that's ever been imagined. The only reason that nobody's won a Pro Tour with it is... uh... unwritten law because it's banned. Yeah. Nobody would play it because it's bad sportsmanship. Devastates the opponent.

PS. I never actually made it, it's just amazing.

I agree it's absurd, and I've joked about Relentless Rats decks before... then a new player showed up for our EDH league yesterday... with a Relentless Rats deck.

(Marrow-Gnawer as the general, of course. And while he never got it on the field, he did have Thrumming Stone in the deck)

He didn't do spectacularly well, but he held his own against a 29/29 Trench Gorger that the Riku player dropped =O

I once built a deck that would stall the game out using Darkest Hour/Light of Day to keep anyone from being able to attack along with a 4x Isochron Scepter 4x Panoptic Mirror along with Angel's Grace, Dawn Charm, Imperial Mask, and a bunch of other stall effects. The whole point of the deck was to completely lock down the game state, then win by either not losing when I draw so that I outlast my opponent (thanks to Angel's Grace on a stick and/or a mirror) or by slowly pinging opponents to death with Orzhova, Church of Deals. That deck once went well past 90 turns against a deck that used Grafted Skullcap and Library of Leng. He sat on just enough cards to be able to draw at the beginning of his turn, discard at end of turn, and repeat on the next. Thanks to a good chunk of life he gained through Corrupt early on, it took me an hour and a half to play through beating him. He knew he had a chance to win if I made a play error, so he made me play it all out.

That wasn't my most ridiculous stack of cards, though. Before M10, Cunning Wish could fetch instants that had been exiled by Eye of the Storm... so naturally, I built a thought experiment that had absolutely no win condition of its own, but COULD dump an arbitrarily large number of spells on the Stack that require human interaction to resolve. Ever been in a game that had so many copies of Stitch in Time on the stack that if you flipped three coins a second, every second to resolve those copies, you'd be flipping those coins for a few billion years after the last subatomic particle in the universe decays into pure radiation? I have! Naturally, I made sure that every time I shuffled up the thought experiment it was with another player that knew exactly what he was getting into... it was a sort of variant format, really. They won the normal way, I won if I could make the game state unresolvable. It was insanely fun...

A Bird deck that uses Aven Mimeomancers to charge up Kangee, Aerie Keeper, or a deck based on Primalcrux and Khalni Hyrda. It's every bit as brutal as it sounds.

I made a deck that the entire point was to put myself in negative life with platinum angel on the field and then play Repay in Kind. I got it off some times and other times I didn't it was a great multiplayer deck.
