There is a book called The Card Wizard's Black Book. I was watching some of his videos online and I want to make sure this is an legit way to know what you have in your box so you can make your luck turn into knowing you will get what you want. I am thinking now ordering a booster box and would like to know if getting this book would be worth the cost after buying a booster box.
Dude, If it was really all that great why wouldn't everyone use it? There is NO way to accurately do what you are trying to do. Sure, print maps become available, but you have to open so many boxes that it vastly outweighs any potential gain.
So, In summary, buy singles if you want specific things, because books don't work.
The point of box mapping is to make it so that you don't need to buy the whole box; you just buy a couple boosters from a fresh box to figure out the likely distribution, then cherry-pick the boosters that are likely to have what you're looking for. For drafts, acting on knowledge of a given box's map is considered cheating (for one thing, even if you don't get a chance to open a couple packs before the box is harvested for the draft, knowledge of the box map still gives you more information on what everyone has just by tracking which packs people picked out in relation to your own). Elsewhere, it's considered to be (at the very least) rude to everyone else buying boosters after you. My general advice on the matter is simply "don't do it".
I am just curious since it doesnt look like he has been doing this long. I had to make sure how many people have heard of it and says its in barnes and nobles but I have to check that out on my own.
The Box maps for all the retail boxes are available on this site, somewhere in the rumour mill anyway. You're on the internet, I don't know why you'd even think about paying money for information like this.
It does work for older sets (ie SoA back) but Wizards changed how they print sets. For those sets though, it is worth it and works. Don't listen to people who don't know what they're talking about.
