i've been slowly building a casual variant of the 'Boat Brew' deck, and was wondering if you guys can help me find some good one-drops for Ranger of Eos.... the point is that it can be from any point in magic history, not just standard.
Since you're playing Eos at converted mana cost of 4, you probably don't want the aggro 1 drops as much as the utility stuff.
no particular format. just casual. (thanks for your suggestions btw)
i have a preference for newer cards in general (urza block onwards) but realistically it doesn't matter what set they're from.
you're probably right about the utility thing, but i also want to be able to present multiple threats from the Eos search, as a way of getting value after a wrath or something.
to the guy who asked: boat brew was red/white. i'd like to stick to those two colours.
Do you really want to play the ranger in eternal formats? Is their really any white weenie decks around that can consider playing a 4 mana creature that has such a narrow aggro use?
Goblin guides / Goblin Bushwackers
Really they add so much pressure to the board I dont think you can go wrong with them. They where the core of the Boros Bushwacker decks

dude i'm not playing competitive legacy here... this isn't an "eternal format".
just casual. a bunch of people making random decks from their collections.
hmmm... i actually own three of them as well. sounds good.
I don't think TheBaron was suggesting you play Legacy. "Eternal" is just a term to describe using cards that are from any set. So because your play group decided you can play any card printed, you are actually playing an eternal format.
Also like TheBaron said, look at the old Boros Bushwhacker decks, they were very fast and cheap. Really, Figure of Destiny would probably be the best all around pick for a Ranger of Eos target, does anyone you know have any for trade? It'd be a good investment.
All in all there are are over 500 1 drops, so go do a search on gatherer and go nuts. Man, I miss that card...

There was a pretty good mirrodin/kamigawa extended deck which went and used Ranger of Eos to tutor up Martyr of Sands and used Proclamation of Rebirth to keep bringing them back. This kept it alive until it could get the thopter combo active. The point is, Martyr of Sands is a really good Ranger target.

They can't even comprehend nature. How could they improve it?
I also like to imagine that he has a rotating torso (like a metallic graft that fuses his upper and lower body together), so he can spin all around, leveling everything within 20ft of him to rubble.
(having a miser's dryad arbor seems like pretty good tech though. searching for lands is win, and would allow me to splash for a single scute mob without having to draw jungle shrine - which doesn't always happen).

Modern: G Tron, Vannifar, Jund, Druid/Vizier combo, Humans, Eldrazi Stompy (Serum Powder), Amulet, Grishoalbrand, Breach Titan, Turns, Eternal Command, As Foretold Living End, Elves, Cheerios, RUG Scapeshift
Suppose you're red/white with 4 mana open. Goblin Bushwhacker will use up all your red sometimes, so need something white. Steppe Lynx with a fetchland means a swing for 4 (ranger) + 5 (Lynx) + 2 (Goblin) = 11 total.
I use this guy in EDH for a few one drops like Scute Mob, Figure of Destiny, Serra Ascendant, and my personal favorite Kor Duelist (seeing the looks on people's faces when they get beat down by a Kor Duelist with a Jitte, Sword of Kaldra or Argentum Armor in EDH is pretty funny). I also need to get the Dragonmaster Outcast who could be pretty epic provided he doesn't die immediately.

i don't own figure of destiny and won't be buying any.
i *do* own dragonmaster outcast who seems like a good stand-in.
any other suggestions?
Though it might be sideboard material if you are playing red tutoring a couple of burrenton forge-tenders Could also be good
EDIT; Remind what colours boat brew where?

Not sure about standard but other than that I'd say Mother of Runes, Soul Warden, Mogg Fanatic, Disciple of the Vault, Weathered Wayfarer, Loyal Sentry, Birds of Paradise, Bloodhall Ooze, Festering Goblin, Noble Hierarch all come to mind.
Thank you for Heroes of the Plane Studios for this awesome sig.

at the moment i've got:
4x mogg fanatic
4x dragonmaster outcast
scute mob seems like a good tutorable 1-of.
any more aggressive 1-drops? going for threat density and/or board control utility.

i like goblin bushwhacker for sure. seems good with spectral procession or elspeth tirel.
also definitely good with a reveillark-revived siege-gang commander. that's a lot of hasty dudes.

Yup... I use them and Martyr Of Sands together.
If you like to gain life, you can find Soul Warden and Soul's Attendant to power up your Serra Ascendant.
Goblin Guide and Jackal Pup bring the beats, along with Loam Lion and Kird Ape.
I think someone mentioned Figure of Destiny and Grim Lavamancer also.

He liked the hydra bc with equipment that gave any def, he couldn't be killed by dmg.
Some possibilities for your deck
i like the idea of fetching a dryad arbor and then one of dragonmaster outcast or scute mob...
arbor and scute seems a pretty excellent choice (both one-ofs, just for that play off the Ranger)
i also really like mother of runes, myr servitor (never really had a way to get them out in reliable multiples until now), signal pest, mogg fanatic, and goblin bushwhacker.
i'll be trying out a bunch of these for sure.
