Deckbuilders toolkit? i mean, the boosters are definitely, but with the extra stuff for the $4 extra, i wasn't sure whether to buy 1 of these or just get 5 packs of my choosing?
Thanks!

GENERATION 15: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig and add 1 to the generation.
i would generally say that no they are not worth it, but just like any other pack assortment you could get dumb lucky and you could get completely hosed. Who knows *shrug* I wont be buying one anytime soon unless I see proof that it's useful in some way that cards I already have aren't going to be useful

It depends what you want it for. The "semi-random" cards contain a number of staple commons and uncommons like Lightning Bolt, Divination, Doom Blade, Mind Control, and the like. If you already have that stuff covered in your collection, you may not be getting much out of this.
The toolkit is great, in my opinion, for someone who is coming back to the game after being away for a while. With just the contents of this box a person could make one or two decent standard decks that you can play at an FNM or around the kitchen table. Obviously they're not going to be tier-1 competitive decks, but what you can make from this box is going to be stronger and far more focused than a typical pre-con. A good foundation to build on.
If you have none of the semi-random cards it's 100% worth it. If you have all of them it's still worth it based on the value of those cards alone. It really is worth it.
4 packs, call it $16 MSRP, maybe a little less from some sites.
The box - on its own likely $4-5.
The rest of the stuff, if you are new or returning with nothing in hand is a decent start, or if you are like me and wanted to make some simple "pulled-punches" decks for a casual group, it works.
Otherwise, if you want to bust packs, bust packs of your choice. Or buy 1, get the box, hope to crack cash, and you have a stack of lands (always useful) and some staples and fodder you can keep lying around or offer to new players. It's really a decent deal on the whole. I bought 2, got some decent cracks (2 Knight of the Reliquary, weird probability on that), and have some decent stuff for my casual group. Even as a more experienced player, though largely a casual one, I am happy.

I found it to be a pretty worthwhile purchase for the utility commons and uncommons and the deck box, the ☺☺☺☺ty booster pulls I happened to get notwithstanding. The deck box is much higher quality than the fat pack ones, and it's the perfect size to carry around some basic land, my EDH deck, my standard deck, and a spare set of drafting sleeves. 3 Lightning Bolts, Overrun, and a bunch of other useful stuff.
I'll just add my voice to the "Yes, it's worth it" crowd. Can you get more packs at a better cost ratio? Sure. But for all of the reasons listed above this is still a good deal. The box alone really is significantly better than the fat pack boxes. And the staple cards really are great. Heck, for me the insert with deck advice and info was great for my wife, who plays with me occasionally and likes to do limited type events.

"They've done studies you know. 60% of the time, it works every time."
It's worth it. You get some Duress and Lightning Bolts and the rares I opened were worth the 20$ price tag. It's a fine investment considering you get less cards if you were to buy 5 boosters at 4$ apiece.
Totally worth it. I don't buy a lot of packs, so this was a way to stock up on some staple commons/uncommons I may not have gotten otherwise. Plus, more land never hurts, the box is nice, and I cracked a Chandra out of the M10 pack and a Raging Ravine out of the Worldwake pack, so I'm definitely not complaining.

I would have to say it is worth it!!! Lots of good cards, a great box, and the chance to pull some really great things in the packs. Seems like a great deal to me.
Also a bad idea is to roast people for their opinion of the appropriateness of the post in question when your entire defense is based on your opinion of the appropriateness of the post.
being an "old timer" I bought one on the assumption that I'm tired of spending $1 a piece for Lightning Bolts and Llanowar Elves when I need them for casual decks. I pulled at least 2 of those, plus some Terramorphics and Doom Blades. Which honestly, you really can't have enough of those lying around.
so if you look at it this way.. 16 in boosters, 2 dollars for the box, at least 5 bucks for the 5 "staple" commons you get out of it.. I'd say you get more than your value out of it. Plus it comes with basic lands, and those are always useful to keep "sealed" until you need them for a casual draft/sealed with friends (which happens a lot for me).

I just want people who redraft to admit this:
"I can't draft objectively unless I am able to guarantee that I receive at least 3 rares. I am also better than most average/new players so I want to make sure that I get the best rares and they end up with worse ones. I care more about the monetary value of cards than actually playing the game for decent prizes."
It was quite worth it for me, one who didn't have any real surplus of basic lands, nor the staples. I got crap from the packs though Seems to be a trend lately for me.
I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.
The box comes with 4 boosters, $16. Every box has at least 2 lightning bolts, $2 at least. You also get an awesome box, $1. That leaves another $1 for like what? 150 cards. Worth it.

the lands were pretty awesome too. i always have a tough time getting my hands on some. intro decks dont introst(=P) me and buying boosters for lands are too expensive.
You also have a good shot at getting a 3rd Llanowar Elves+ Overrun, or Into the Roil, +Mindcage, or a 3rd Lightning Bolt+Kiln Fiend+Fireball+Searing Blaze+Burst Lightning, or Gatekeeper of Malakir+Vampire Nighthawk+Sign in Blood+Arrogant Bloodlord, etc
I've bought two of them so far. The box was worth it alone, because it holds deck boxes. My first one I pulled a Noble Hierarch from one of the boosters and the second one wasn't that lucky, but I got a Merfolk Sovereign, which isn't horrible.
Plus the bolts, nighthawk, gatekeeper and other stuff...definitely worth $20.00.
My main complaint about the DBT is that it included soon-to-be outdated packs. But if they have indeed updated those, then it is an excellent deal.
Does anyone know if there is a way to tell which box contains which packs?
I don't think there is a way to tell. They've said in the past that this product is just going to contain random packs for as long as they keep it. I imagine each "print run" will be different (in regards to packs)

1. I got the box, which looks awesome. It holds 3-5 decks. It holds my MBC, Goblins and Bant, aswell as my EDH.
2. I pulled an Admonition Angel in my WWK, Verdant Catacombs in ZEN, Wall of Reverence in CFX and Mind Spring in my M10.
3. The staple commons are awesome. x3 Lightning Bolts (They're worth 1-2$ a piece), Doom Blades, Sleep, Mind Control, Spell Pierce, etc. It's excellent.
Where would you guys recommend buying a toolkit that includes new packs? I really want to pick one up after reading this thread, but I would hate getting Alara packs.

It really seems to be a crapshoot from what I can tell among my circles. Many of us have picked up at least one and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what we got inside.

toolkit for the win. the toolkit is so much win, it is just win more. i wanna win.
Definitely. Not only are you getting 4 boosters, a deck box, and 100 lands, but you're guaranteed staple commons like:
You also have a good shot at getting a 3rd Llanowar Elves+ Overrun, or Into the Roil, +Mindcage, or a 3rd Lightning Bolt+Kiln Fiend+Fireball+Searing Blaze+Burst Lightning, or Gatekeeper of Malakir+Vampire Nighthawk+Sign in Blood+Arrogant Bloodlord, etc

bought two of these today, (probably the 4th and 5th one i've bought...i like 'em!)
but instead of the M10 and conflux packs, you get an additional ZEN and an RoE so you get 2 ZEN, 1 WW, and 1 RoE. Just so you all know!
In development (Post rotation):

I noticed this as well. The first box I got had the M10/Conflux goodness in it. The last one I bought, two days ago, had 2 ZEN, 1 WW and 1 RoE.
Does anyone know if there is a way to tell which box contains which packs?
