I was just thinking about this... I don't think it belongs in the 'Mill, because it's not really a rumor or anything, and it's not speculation about any card/set being released. Anyways...
So many sites have preview cards during rumor season (and to my dismay, like to tag them with a watermark of some kind). Now, as far as I'm aware, MTGS is probably one of the biggest MTG communities in existence (probably 2nd to the official forums? I'm not sure).
Has MTGS ever received a card to spoil? If so, which? And if not, why?
MTGS is viewed as the 4chan of the mulitverse. In other words, we don't get any respect. This is in large due to the amount of spam/trolling/flaming that we are famous for. This is also why we are the most heavilly(re:best) modded site as far as fan forums go.

Is that really the reputation? I honestly don't see why... True, there is spam and all that, but like you say yourself, the mods do a good job making sure it's not disruptive (or at least in my opinion, I don't find it disruptive).
MTGS is famous for how little spam it has, due to the heavy modding. The Argus confuses me.
It's because of the Rumor Mill and its history, pure and simple. Wizards has no interest in providing previews to a site which is popular largely due to its history as the first to spoil the secrets of upcoming sets.

I thought that might have something to do with it, but then why give preview cards to any other site? Frequently people will be "waiting for {website} {upcoming set} spoiler" just because they know the {website} has posted preview cards before, thereby giving them a reputation of spoiling cards... So that seems a little backwards to me...

Previews cards given to sites by Wizards are way different from old-school Rumor Mill spoilers, which were (or, sometimes, are) obtained without Wizards' knowledge or consent.
MTGS (and previously MTGNews) were, until recently, the place to be to get all the info months in advance. Wizards did not appreciate that.
We're not exactly on friendly terms. Wizards giving us an exclusive preview would implicitly condone all of the things we've done in the past. Even when MaRo spoke of us when addressing the issue of leaks a few years back, we were 'that rumor site'.
Wizards has been happy to promote Magic fansites, in part because fostering a strong online community in turn promotes the growth of their game. This is why they began issuing exclusive previews to fan-run websites in the first place. That said, we are not a fan-run website that they are angling to promote. We are, in fact, a site that they have taken drastic steps to impede, to put it mildly.
We're not Facebook friends, they don't like our status and they don't invite us to join their groups.
Whether MTGS gets an official preview or not I don't think really matters. As far as I can tell most people who care about 0 day previews on the interwebs comes here to get them anyway. Maybe its just me, but I usually refresh MTG Salv first during preview season =p

Officially.
But honestly? I think MTGNews and MTGSalvation have been two of the best and biggest supporters of Magic over the years. A person needs merely to glance through the multitude of sub-forums here to see how incredibly diverse, supportive, and active this community is. If I had to put money on it, I'd say MTGS is a lot more active than the official boards or any of these other fan-sites. Whenever a card gets spoiled anywhere else, the thread discussing it here grows faster than anywhere, including the official site. When a card gets spoiled here, it gets posted on forums around the world in a variety of languages within hours or minutes.
And I think at least some members of WotC must be fully aware of this. Despite the corporate line they have to tow, I think many appreciate this site for what it does for the game. I know I do. I also know that if I felt this place were harming the game, I wouldn't be here. MTGS is a boon to Magic.
And besides, even though we don't get official spoilers, we get all the rest!
I've always thought it's an attempt by Wizards to 'punish' us for rather famously defying their wishes on spoilers every single set. (And making them look so totally inept at this simple aspect of marketing their own product to the extent that they now have their own spoiler page.)
But then again, I sometimes wonder if 'The Captains' are actually WotC employees trying to manage the inveitable flow of spoiled cards each season. (and players' perceptions of the unfolding set.)
Honestly, the reason MTGS doesn't get official previews is that every preview will be a MTGS preview within the span of 5 minutes. Even the sites that get previews usually run here to post it as soon as allowed.
Besides, it's not like Wizards hates this site. Infact, I think they probably take MTGS very seriously. I seem to remember serveral shoutouts to "the rumor community," such as during the RE lawsuit or the infamous spoiling of Nicol Bolas, as well as quite a few things, such as enemy fetchlands getting publicity for being fan requests for years. Remember all the Enemy Fetclands in [set X] threads? Most likely, the reason MTGS doesn't get official, name recognition is due to Hasbro lawyers, trying to keep a strong, public stance to defend any future trademark/copywrite cases Magic might be involved in. If they publically aknowledged MTGS as something they like after all the spoiling of classified information, it would make them look weaker in court. Instead, they give spoilers to lots of members of the forum, who have their own blogs and websites, knowing the cards will end up here within minutes, anyway. Don't think for a second, that R&D isn't here reading the million threads they helped start with some tiny, little cryptic hint they dropped in an article, either.
But honestly? I think MTGNews and MTGSalvation have been two of the best and biggest supporters of Magic over the years.
Perhaps, but I can tell you that they don't feel that way. And likely never will as long as we continue to be a thorn in their side.
If I had to put money on it, I'd say MTGS is a lot more active than the official boards or any of these other fan-sites.
I do believe you're correct, but I don't really keep track of these things.
And I think at least some members of WotC must be fully aware of this.
I would say we're pretty infamous to anyone who's been with the Magic side of WotC and have been for some time. That's probably how they know that rumors are popular.
Despite the corporate line they have to tow, I think many appreciate this site for what it does for the game.
That's a largely self-interested view. I think it's quite the opposite, at least when it comes to the guys higher up the food chain. I don't think MaRo is lying when he says he despises uncontrolled spoilers, even if he does enjoy rumors to an extent. Our drive to disseminate intellectual properties without permission is a danger to the game as far as they're concerned. Whatever good for the game that we do is far outweighed by the damage they feel we do. Do note how in the past four years the Wizards site and company policies have shifted ever so slightly to behave more like us. They tried to build a community there and failing that, they moved to foster a network of fansites. They began their own spoiler rollout as they began to realize the marketing power inherent in spoilers. Whatever good we may do, they've tried to emulate.
Don't kid yourself, if they could be rid of us, they would be.

A member here posted images of playtest cards that resulted in his being sued by WotC. That's it in a nutshell.
Did he lose the case?
I could see that if he was a member of Wizards employ, but if not, seems like he had every right to do so to me (seeing as how he didn't sign some sort of nondisclosure agreement).

"...because without beer, things do not seem to go as well."
I think they should appreciate this site more for what it is. The spoilers we have here, are, in a way, great for their business. It generates incredible hype for the sets that they wouldn't get elsewhere, or at least wouldn't get as much of, imo.

They get plenty of hype by releasing their own previews when they want, and they are in a much better position than you to gauge which method is more "great for their business."
Hype generated by spoilers can backfire when cards are spoiled incorrectly. If a card is spoiled in a way that makes it look weak, some of the wind is sucked out of their reaction when the actual card is released.
Worse, sometimes cards are spoiled in a way that makes them look stronger than they actually are.Eyes of the Wisent was spoiled as triggering on any spell, not just blue ones. There was more than a little revulsion when the real wording was revealed.

The infamous lawsuit was the huge blow, but not the last strongarm tactic from Wizards.
