I will be travelling to Beijing very soon and was wondering whether it is worth it for me to bring a couple of mtg decks. Does anyone know what the popular formats are and what are the best places to play in Beijing? I'm going to be there for a good 5 months so i thought it might be a good chance to play some cards and practise my chinese.
Also, any idea what the general cost of chinese cards are there? Say the price of a chinese worldwake booster?
I'm not sure about Beijing's mtg scene, but I can tell you about the situation in Hong Kong in terms of pricing. The pricing of boosters is identical to the pricing in the US, converted to local currency. The last time I went back to HK, it the price of a booster was about $25 HKD, which amounts to a little less than $4 US for an english booster that is currently in print. Boosters in Traditional (because HK uses Traditional instead of Simplified) were slightly cheaper.
Boosters outside of standard were somewhere between "dirt cheap" and "ridiculously cheap". Again, the last time I went back, I purchased Traditional Invasion boosters for ~$12 HKD (something like a dollar and a half US), which is a steal.
I'm pretty sure the prices of boosters would reflect what I see in HK.
