Unless there are some new players around that need help building a collection or something, I keep my commons. Why is it that most Magic players are so determined to rid of them? Who knows when you are going to need 4 Llanowar Elves right on the spot? Or Lightning Bolts? Or Mindless Nulls? (okay, perhaps not)
Point is, I like having commons. When that one guy screams "DEAR GOD I NEED 3 SUNSPRING EXPEDITIONS!!" right before FNM starts, I'm there. Gonna make a new deck? I've probably got part of it. Need to start a fire? You get the point.
So, what do you do with your commons?

Although always playing a deck I think is fun, I'm also always trying to win the tournament.

I keep them also. I try to get playsets for constructed purposes. my friends and I throw them at each other when another person is trying to build a new deck. Also I have an all pauper cube, which is barrels of ffun.

i keep some of my commons i sell some locally if its something i don't need and they do its gone and my wallet feels happy. or i do a bulk trade for one card.
for example:
200 commons
for glacial fortress + sleeves
Yea, I couldn't imagine tossing my commons, I usually keep my playset of every common I get. For staples I might end up with several playsets! Then again I'm a bit of a collector and happy to lend out cards to friends when they can use them.
The ONLY time I've ever gotten rid of a card is when I let friends borrow them and never ask for them back. I could never see myself trash commons at the end of a night of drafting like I've seen some people do. Hell sometimes, I wish I was cool enough to reach into the trash and fish out those cards, but then again, so much crap goes in there I probably wouldn't risk it.
I donate them to the store for repack drafting. It's not like everyone can afford $15 for FNM draft. Plus the little $5 drafts are good for beginners because the regulars don't usually show up that day.
I keep a playset of everything (Invasion on at least). I usually have an extra playset of staples in case my wife/buddies need them for a deck. After that I save them up and bulk sell them.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I keep all my commons in a GIGANTIC box. One of those 1600 card things. I have them sorted by colour.

I keep all the playable stuff separate and in my bag. As for the crap commons that no one plays? Well, this is where the fun begins. They all started off in big storage boxes. That didn't last too long, so I literally have all the jank commons and stuff in a big 10 gallon storage tote. When my buddies come over, we all just randomly reach in for cards and build reject decks (once we get sick of T2, EDH, ect..). After we finish playing with these crap decks, we sort them by color and put them back in said boxes.
...gotta love having my friends sort my crap for me.
I keep all my commons too, I get rid of rares... well, rares I don't need in exchange for rares I do need. Then I end up needing the rares I got rid of...
When I'm opening packs for a new set I keep everything right down to the rules tip card. That being said after a set's been out for a while, as long as I have 8 of each common or uncommon I give the rest back to the retailer as he has a free commons box and some uncommons are there as well, the uncommons usually go into trade binders.
For rares I'll hold onto them and pray they become the next Windbrisk Heights.
I used to keep all of mine. Now when I open boxes, I keep a playset of all commons and 2-3 playsets of all that I think I will use in decks. After that when I open more packs of the same set, I pick out the commons I want and give the rest to kids that are at the store to help them out.
I only really keep the good commons, and try to give away the rest. If I can't give them away, I put them away into their proper place (Type 2 Blue box, etc) at home. But I get lax sometimes so I have a pile of commons growing on my desk

I've stopped buying packs because of how much I hate the clutter it causes. I buy all singles now (I occasionally buy a pack or two, keep the playables and rares and leave the rest on the counter)
I know I'll get flamed, but I asked 5 or so people if they wanted a big box of commons, and no one would take them, so to the dumpster they went...
I get playsets of common and uncommons within the first few weeks of a set from drafting/sealed and FNM winnings. After that I just grab any prominent cards (Burst Lightning, stuff like that, commons that get played) and my rare and full art land and give the rest to the store owner who gives them to random kids that come in. I don't get cluttered, and I get to pretend I'm doing something for the community.
