Custom Deck Box

  • #1
I came up with this design for a sideloading deck box, easily made out of 4 bent cards and some scotch tape. (Pictures Attached). It actually holds together, won't let the cards fall out, and fits sleeved cards

What I was wondering was, what kind of deck boxes do you guys make? I haven't seen a thread about this yet, and can't seem to find any designs or instructions for custom-made deck boxes online.

(Please merge if there's another thread like this, mod.)

I used to mold duct tape around a stack of cards, and then wrap a few layers around all of it.

i've also cut two of the old precon deckboxes up, and taped them together for an EDH box.

I made a deck box similair to the one you did.

It basically was made up of 13 Magic cards and had a lip to close the box shut and a whollllle lot of clear tape to hold it together. It took forever to get the lip to close right while not letting the deck fall out when you held it upside down...

I made it out of the excess Plains I had at the time. I was even thinking of doing some of them where the basic lands that were in the deck, would be the deck box. If I get a better internet connection, I'll post some pictures up.

My biggest problem in making deck boxes is that it's hard to come up with a good latch that's easily made. I've seen duct tape on a smooth surface for repeatable stickiness, and that seemed to work pretty well.

Also, I find that the art from booster packs is great for decorating your boxes, since it's free (doesn't require printing, so no ink) and booster pack art tends to be among the best in a set.

I've seen someone with a duct tape box too. I wish I had real duct tape, as opposed to just packaging and scotch tape.

13 cards? I'm guessing it completely encompassed the cards... Can't wait to see pictures.

making deck boxes is fun if your bored

the owner of my local shop gives me the empty booster boxes sometimes which is cool

i unfolded a shards of alara sealed deck box to make a template that i can trace over the image from a booster box, to make a new deck box

the promo triangle-thing for zendikar which featured the art of gomozoa made an amazing deck box, the artwork just centered up naturally

i haven't made new deckboxes much lately since i started sleeving my cards which rendered all my boxes useless

i did make a new template that fits at least 75 sleeved cards, and is side loading

this is a great resource: http://www.ee0r.com/boxes/index.html

I've been toying with the idea of custom deckboxes as well, but I haven't gotten around to actually make one yet.

It all started from playing Dominion which has a big box for a few cards, so if you want to lug it around, a custom "travel box" makes a whole lot of difference. So that's going to be my first custom box, then I'll try my hand at a couple magic ones as well.

Here's a nicely explained guide which I intend to follow: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/310575/cardboard-box-building-howto , and also a file with blueprint templates, which obviously need to be adapted to whatever size you want for the box: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/fileinfo/36272 (this applies to 2 piece box + lid boxes, not tugboxes - for that, see dallencore's link above)
Playing RGB Jund, GB Sapling of Colfenor and RGB Kresh the Bloodbraided

I build and list my decks, tradelist and wishlist on http://deckbox.org/users/sebi
