Every league (open league) I go straight Shadowmoor. Partly because it is my favorite set of all time, mainly just because I love the artwork . Anyways, every league everyone in the store gets extremely angry at me for playing Shadowmoor and then they continue to throw insults on how stupid and how bad Shadowmoor is. The store owner got so irritated he bumped up the Shadowmoor boosters to $5.50 each. Of course that made me mad but it didn't stop me. It isn't because I win all the time either. In league I usually average around a 60% win percentage. And it isn't because they hate me. It is because they all HATE Shadowmoor with a burning passion. But my question is WHY?? It is getting really annoying just getting hounded for enjoying it!!
My only theory is that other players are extremely annoyed by Wither. So can others who despise the set please tell me what is wrong with other people playing it?
i have no clue why someone could hate a set so much to ***** about it like that. But they even managed to get the manager to hike up the price per booster? now that's just friggin wrong.
i feel sorry for you having to experience their immaturity at the store dude.
i admit, there's sets that ppl won't like per~se, but I never actually hate any set out there.
I personally think that Shadowmoor (speaking from a mainly Casual gamers love for creatures) is one of my favorite sets. There is some truly cool and fun stuff in that set. I didn't get back into the game until Shards of Alara pre-release and so I missed that whole Lor-Sha block. I went back and got a few cards here and there, but now that the block has rotated I've been buying up playsets of a lot of those cards for 10-25% of the value. I'll probably imagine with a full playset of the Lor-Sha block. Yeah, the card prices are going to drop, but I'm going to be playing the hell out of these cards for many years to come. So I'm with the OP, Shadowmoor is great!
I don't understand that. LOR/SHA was a great block. Personally, my favourite set was Lorwyn, but Shadowmoor was pretty cool. Wither was my first deck, and I went 2-2 at my first FNM with a RW precon crammed with wither from packs of Shadowmoor I'd picked up.

As someone who loves shadowmoor also, I think this is outrageous. There's nothing wrong with the set, or wither, the artwork is amazing and it has a vast array of amazingly fun cards
The only thing I didn't like about that block were the mimics. Otherwise, the set seemed pretty solid and I can see how it could be a favorite set for someone.
The store owner bumped the card packs? How immature.
For the most part (I'll always have Seedcradle Witch + Shield of the Oversoul :P), I disliked Shadowmoor as well. But that doesn't mean you jack up prices. In fact, my store lowered the price on our 1 remaining Shadowmoor box just so we could get it out before interest dropped to zero.
I'm not fond of Shadowmoor and I loathe Lorwyn (primarily on art and flavor grounds, but Lorwyn's tribal theme bugged the hell out of me after a couple months). That said, I can't think of a single reason to pile the hate on Shadowmoor instead of Lorwyn except maybe people associating it with the sort of irritating mall-goths that line up hours early on the opening nights of Tim Burton movies dressed as characters FROM those movies.
I started playing the day after shadowmoor released and bought three decks for my first cards, the red-black shadowmoor, the shaman morningtide, and the tenth black. I love Shadowmoor, especially because of the elves in the block.

I collect planeswalkers, just missing Jace 2.0, Chandra Nalaar ( temporarily), Tezzy 2.0 and Chandra the Firebrand.
Maybe he bumped up the price because the product is getting harder to find, and it had nothing to do with YOU playing SM. There are a lot of good extended cards in those packs.
Our store used to have non sanctioned sealed deck on saturdays with any product he had. One time he had some revised boosters and put them for $10 each. Nobody played sealed with it, but he sold them within a week.
Edit: to the OP. People probably see you win a lot and assume it has something to do with the fact that you play shadowmoor. They assume you are uncreative and couldn't win if you were playing some other set.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
The only thing I hate about Shadowmoor was the boneheaded reprinting of Reflecting Pool, which when combined with Vivid lands allowed players to completely ignore the colors in the spells they cast.

Heh... it was different though, I'll at least give it that. Never had an environment like that before which is cool, and its not a permanent thing since we're out of it now. And we still had a LOT of two color decks (Faeries , Boat Brew, BW tokens, GW tokens) and some monocolor (RDW for a little while, Kithkin)

I would have been ok with all the ridiculous manafixing if there had been good, reliable LD to have leverage against decks wanting to stretch their manabases like 5cc decks did.
I loved shadowmoore. I had a red/black wither deck that could wipe out the entire board(including my own creatures sometimes:D) with one spell. I thought it was a fun set

Talk about weird. I love Shadowmoor/Eventide. Any set that reprints Reflecting Pool can't be too bad.
Seems like bad business sense to jack up boosters of a set someone seems willing to buy when they likely wouldn't sell quickly otherwise given the rotation.
I hated the art style, theme and raised power level of the Lor/Sha block, but that's just me. Luckily, I came back in around the SoA block so I had something that felt more normal.
But I did like the Gilder Bairns. Those dudes look cool

Unfortunately, LD is pretty much done in Magic for the forseeable future. How cards like Yawning Fissure and Volcanic Submersion get printed over Stone Rain is beyond me. I do like Goblin Ruinblaster though.

"In another life, in another dream,
By a different name,
Gave it all away for a memory and a quiet lie.
But I felt the face of a cold tonight,
Still don't know the score,
But I know the pain of leaving everything very far behind.
And if I could cry,
And if I could live,
What truth I did then take me there,
Heaven Goodbye."
