it's not a scam, but it's certainly not anything *too* new, it's just new to the mainstream. all it comes down to is meticulous recording of data, knowing your math, and lots of time and money.
Take your monoblack deck, then set aside 14 swamps. Add 4 Creeping Tar Pits, 4 Darkslick Shores, 4 Drowned Catacombs, and 2 Jwar isle Refuge and add 4 Jace, the Mindsculptors. Your monoblack deck is instantly better. Better yet, drop those refuges, throw in some islands and some mana leaks, and lo and behold, you're now playing a real deck. Congratulations. Welcome to the world of competitive M:TG.

It sure looks that way. I can't follow everything that is happening in the videos 100% but I kinda always suspected something like this.
I dont know how much this will affect stores and drafts, but I know I wont ever be buying loose packs off ebay again, thats for sure. My pack luck is bad enough without someone making it even Worse!
he just happens to know how print runs work. He should be sharing this info for free, because it would be of great value to the mgaic community. Oh well, it'll probably get leaked eventually.
Haven't people been doing this in limited for years? I know that a lot of my friends have given me copies of print runs for the limited season and they seemed to work.
This is just a fancier version that can predict what cards in specific packs of a box.

For free? Really? It seems like a pretty good amount of time and effort got put into developing it to teach in the book. I'm the last guy who will ever say no to a free lunch, but even I concede the guy is entitled to something for his time. A $15 book is not really that expensive. Thats the price of a draft.
yeah, many vendors have known where the good cards are at for a very long time. A guy at my old comic store used to be able to tell where all the Foil rares are located it. WIZARDS should really make it "random"
Eh, it could be worse, like the days when Pokemon holos made packs visibly stiffer, and store clerks could be seen bending the packs to divert the ones containing foils for their own use.

I'm not sure they CAN make it random. The guy was saying on the videos, as long as it is packed by a machine, its not random. That kinda makes sense, anything done by a machine has to be a preset sequence. They should make it as complex as possible though. That way its as tough as possible to sort it out.
The first two boxes of Alara a buddy and I bought from the same store right after he pulled them out of the shipping carton from wizards - boxes were near identical - down to the same foil rare.
Excusme, english is not my first lenguaje. Can anyone explain me what s this "black book"? The guy can predict the contents of the boosters?
He's come up with some kind of formula to figure out what other cards are in your booster box and in what packs they will probably be found based on the contents of a single pack. To put it simply, if you open a box and then open one of the packs, his book can tell you what else is probably in the box.

"...because without beer, things do not seem to go as well."
The worst part is people isnt considoring the cheating aspect... as he himself says in the video "use theese other booster for draft or what not"...
1) its a problem if you only draft with the boosters not containing the "good rares" you are cheating your fellow players...
2) This system can be used to tell what is in a booster before you open, and even though some cards aint worth opening, it sure is worth i bringing 2 Battlegrace Angels and a Rafiq, of the many to your next draft...

I can't help but be suspicious of the big sites that sell boosters super cheap. The draft boxes, with a mix of boosters from different sets, are also suspect. The book's author says he used to sell Magic cards and he knows other dealers use the same method to pull the best rares for their stock.
You can't count on the local shops, the owner/manager might be honest but a minimum wage employee could be doing it in a back room on the sly. Oh well... I guess you either buy sealed boxes or trust you're not buying rejected boosters.

"Right about now I am wondering if Fredy Montero needed a kidney, how many guys in Seattle would line up to oblige?"
-- David Falk, Seattle Soccer Examiner, March 2009
This. Is. Sweet. Time to get back at the dealers! FIGHT THE POWERS THAT BE!
Addendum:
I am still wondering when this information can come in handy. Possibly when buying individual packs?
My take on it is: there are many rares that are good in constructed bad in limited (ie filter lands, combo pieces) and there are other rares that are bad in constructed good in limited. I want to use this system to open up all my GICBIL at home, and leave the BICGIL in packs to take to the draft.
Andrade makes a good observation. Now we know why some dealers online sell the loose packs super cheap. Maybe some are honest but can we really take that chance anymore??? For a local store shop I think we are mostly safe, no shop owner will want people to call his store "the bad pack place." Its not worth a few extra $$ for him to ruin his reputation.
I'll have to try this with Conflux. I buy 6 cases per set, so I should be able to put this to test pretty reasonably. I won't do every box, mind you. I do need to get my sets out to my customers, but I will do a few after I have the sets accounted for.
EDIT: Nevermind. It seems that he won't have the maps for new sets available at time of release.

Rumor has it he plans to get the Conflux map out fairly close to release day. I guess we will find out in a few weeks!
Why is it ERUZUPESU for Elspeth's Japanese name? It really seems like Erusupesu works fine.
Oh sorry, got hung up haha. How many packs did you have to open?
I'm wondering, does this author tell you how to compose "maps" such as these for yourself when a new expansion comes out? Does he present a system by which you can make a map for, say, conflux?
Yes, actually. The book teaches the technique, I guess you would call it, to map, so you can map out future sets. And also, for sets that dont map very well, the book teaches "parring" which is a bunch of basic formulas to get the most out of any box. Even if you dont have a map and you only have 1 box and youve never opened a pack of that set before ever. You just have to know how many rares are in the set overall, and which ones are worth any money. Honestly that was the most valuable part of the book. Mapping is just gravy. We can use parring on any box of mtg, EVER, no matter what WotC ever does to the sorting of the packs, bc it is based on probabilities and math and not on knowing a sequence.
I opened 16 packs out of 2 boxes of SoA Japanese. I got Elspeth, Ajani, HK Overlord, Rafiq, Lich Mirror, 2 x Cruel Ult, 2 x Canonist, Stoic Angel, Master of Etheriam. I got jank in the other 5 packs. Worth it? Im happy Ill just put it that way. I sold the rest of the packs to a dealer who didnt care about mapping, got most of my money back for the boxes.

I ordered the book and I bought some Japanese SoA boxes, I will definitely post my results when I get it all and try it.

Hmmm. I may have to ask him about that.
Just an update folks... I got my boxes and, well:
So in summary I sold my remaining packs to a local dealer at a slight discount. No complaints outta yourz truly.
