I bought A Tournament Pack in Odyssey and pulled a Foil Delaying Shield, Aegis of Honor and Petrified Field (Can't remember the other rare if there was one outside the foil)
But in Judgment I opened my first actual booster pack and got Silver Seraph
The Precons I bought were BR / UG / RG and then the Mono G Judgment Precon with Thriss, so guess which colour I lacked most? heheh
I do not remember what I opened in my first (and only) pack of Urza's Saga. I do remember the pack of Onsalught I bought and pulled a Wooded Foothills. I promptly threw it away because it was a garbage rare in my eyes.
Ya it's one of the expedition lands halo mythic rare:) I got really lucky I pulled the same day a few 18$ cards as well so it was a great day:) got ulamong the ceasless hunger as well that day
So I don't remember the first rare because I was 11 and it was 18 years ago. But I remember the very first card I ever saw. My older brother (15 at the time) was given a Brassclaw Orcs by his D&D friend. It was the art from Fallen Empires where the orc is standing on the left side, looking out into a blue sky with his spear in hand.
Funny thing I remember about Magic and D&D then was it was pretty much unheard of to play those games, whether it was because your parents thought it was devil worship or you would have been destroyed at school for it. My brother was a weird one...a jock that played fantasy games. He had two sets of friends and his nerd friends understood they had to avoid him at all costs in school and never tell anyone he was their friends. If me and my bro were playing a game of magic/D&D at my parents' place and his football friends showed up, he would run inside and tell me to clean up...one time he actually hid under the table!

My first rare I've ever pulled was a fourth edition black mana battery. Funny thing was that being the naive player I was, someone convinced me to trade it away for 8 basic lands. Even more amusing is that looking back at it in today's standards, it was pretty much a fair trade anyway.
I have no clue in the old days of magic there were no Rarity symbols on the cards. I probably played the game for 6 month before I knew cards had different rarity. In the early 90's there were no magic sites yet it and it took awhile before an official price guide came out, I think it was Inquest Magazine.

Yea, I pulled others beforehand, but a revised Vesuvan Doppelganger was the first one I remember where I had that 'little kid' glee to it. It was from a starter deck and I pulled a Clone as well (which was kinda cool with 2 of the rares being Shapeshifters ). Of course I also pulled not-so-great Taiga as well.
It was summer of '94, the salesman was trying to sell me Arabian Nights boosters for $20. In my head I thought what a rip off, I'll get a bunch of The Dark and Revised for $2.50 each instead. First pull, Leviathan. I've been a predominately blue mage ever since.

I just remember having a special place in my heart for Vesuvan Doppleganger.
I know Shivan Dragon was another...and probably wrath of god and nevinyrral's disk
...actually... serra angel was uncommon from alpha through 4th ed. It got pushed to rare with 7th edition, and back to uncommon with Magic 2010.
