How much does going to a prerelease usually cost?

I was just wondering because the closest place around here charges 30 dollars per sealed flight whatever that means. I've never been to one so I was thinking about trying it out. Also, it said they were also doing 15 dollar drafts. Is that any good?

Sealed is standard 30, some places do 25 if u get into another sealed afterwards.

    Drafting is 15 bucks.

If you want to just play with more new cards i recommend Drafting.

Sealed will get u a pre-release promo card, drafting won't.

    $30 Sealed = 3 Shards packs, 3 Reborn packs

    $15 Draft = 1 Shards Pack, 2 Reborn Packs.

    Drafting is single elimination

Sealed you gives u a bit more leeway with a loss or a tie.

IMHO Drafting is way better. You see more stuff and at the end of 2 drafts, u walk home with 2 playable decks. Wink

    Wow, I'm going to a Sealed prerelease 2HG for 35 euro's a team.
    That's 17.50 euro's per player, about 22 dollars.
    For $ 22,- I get 4 shards packs and 4 Reborn packs..

Does that mean that each player gets 4 and 4 totaling 16 packs? Or do you split those packs between the two of you? Seems kinda high.

Around here its 25 for sealed (individual) and 10 for draft. I haven't played in 2hg in a long time and I can't remember how much I paid.

This might be a stupid question but how do you see more in a draft instead of sealed? It looks like that you get the same amount of boosters. Also, should I bring my own lands and what's the difference between draft and sealed? Is sealed they just give you the packs and you make your own deck out of them? While in draft you open a booster pick one and pass it around?

To answer your first question, I think he was referring to a cost balance (you'd see 4 ARB packs for $30 by drafting versus 3 with a Sealed).

The tournament location should provide you with plenty of lands.

You are correct on the difference between the two.

In personal experience, Prereleases are expensive, but that's also because I just love drafting and deckbuilding, so I typically will do 2 Sealed events and 2-3 drafts during the day.

If you want to get more cards overall, Sealed is the way to go (more product, higher entry, etc.). However, if you're keen on opening new product, look towards the drafts (but check with your organizer so that they aren't doing something like ACR, which would be terrible with a $15 tag.) for a more fun time.

I'll probably do one of each. (I'll be at the NYC prerelease on Sunday, hopefully nailing the singular flight and a draft or two. Darn work.)

EDIT: I don't recall merging this thread with the Official Events thread, so if someone else did, please leave this thread be, as it is discussing a separate topic (costs of PRs versus where to go for them/announcing them).
