Thanks to the generosity of some MTGCast listeners, I am jet-setting to NYC next weekend for the festivities on Saturday and Sunday. For those that haven't listened to the MTGCast show, I am a pretty straight-forward casual player that LOVES Tribal.
My main questions is: what should I bring to Worlds? My list so far includes:
* Trade binder
* Deck box with decks (what formats should I bring for casual play?)
* Camera (can do nice video as well)
* Deodorant
* License to Thrill
* Question book to record answers to "Who is hotter? Richard Garfield or Mark Rosewater?"
Thanks for any tips in advance and maybe I can meet some faces at Worlds!
I would definitely bring non-perishable food and drink, I go to Neutral Ground all the time, and if there's one thing I remember, it's that you get very thirsty when you are doing things, so keep sealable (Who wants wet cards?) drinks with you at all times. And usually food as well, there's no way you want to pay their prices.
Casual formats that are played include Type 4 and simple multiplayer casual matches. I'd also bring money for drafts, because, as we all know, drafting Lorwyn is pretty fun.
1x Legacy deck (Completely pimped)
1x Trade binder
1x Wallet (With credit card and wad of cash in it)
1x "Mugging Wallet" (With $40 in it)
8x Condom (We're telling local girls that we're pre-law at Columbia)
4x Bottle of whiskey
4x Outfits to wear
1x Stick of deodorant
1x Bottle of Hollister cologne
1x Winter coat
1x Backpack
1x Digital camera (So I can put more pictures on Facebook)
34x Free draft event coupons (Yes, thirty-four)
And that's pretty much it.

That's way more preparation than I ever do for an event. I usually just grab decks for the appropriate format(s), a trade binder, and a bag of clothes. If you're unsure of which formats will be played, there have been a few articles on the Wizards site detailing the various side events.
Hi Tom! Here's what I'm bringing (most of which I mentioned to you through PM):
1 large bookbag
1 change of clothes
1 ziplock bag of toiletries (travel toothpaste, toothbrush, contact lens solution, deodorant)
1 small digital camera w/ 2 sets of batteries, fully charged
2-3 plastic shopping bags (in case of rain, I can cover my binder with a bag; also, for dirty laundry)
1 NYC map
1 small umbrella (maybe)
ipod nano & earbuds (for the bus ride... loaded with lots of MTG podcasts)
trade binder
decks (3x standard, 2x extended)
favorite cards to have signed by artists (Rebecca Guay, Parente, Jim Murray, Aleksi Briclot)
a box of granola bars/power bars (maybe)
"front pocket" wallet w/ some cash (very little); credit card
So far i have planned for the following items
1. My magic filled backpack
2. My trade binders filled and organized
3. My main set of decks
4. Commander Eesha, to be signed by Rebbeca Guay
5. A Wallet with an undisclosed amount of cash in it
6. A stuffed animal Raccoon, for identification and tom foolery
7. A trenchcoat or a large winter jacket.
8. A good group of friends
9. My A-Game

I hope you know that you'll only be able to use one of those draft coupons per person once per weekend.

Where'd you hear that? That's not really fair ... it doesn't say so on the coupon. (EDIT: it's fair, it's just not cool, especially since it's not printed anywhere on the card)
But you can always sell/trade them to people who want a free draft. Should pay for a lot of your side events/food for the time you are there.
True. Still, I checked the coupons to make sure they didn't have any restrictions (because it seemed like a pretty awesome thing to have in multiples, and I wanted to be sure I knew of any restrictions) and unless they printed it in black ink on the black background, it's not on any of the 4 coupons I have.
I certainly don't mind trading them, though. I wonder what trade value would be for something like that? Technically they're worth $17 (the cost of the booster drafts), but obviously it doesn't pay to trade for them if you've got $17 or a card you can sell for $17.

You could probably get ~$12 in cash and maybe ~$15 in trade. In either case, it is still free money. It may be difficult to find the people who need them since I imagine many of the people going already have one. So I don't know how much of a market there will be. Additionally, the value goes down as each day passes since there are fewer times to use them.
Also, you can always try using multiples and see how much the enforce it. There is the option of making a new DCI number at the event just to get in an extra draft if they are enforcing 1 per DCI strictly, but I wouldn't recommend that.

I am looking for Date Stamped promos from Khans of Tarkir block so I can finish my set. Check my wants if you have any.
Currently offering 2 non-foil Kolighan's Command for a Date Stamped foil!
Thanks for the info everyone. I picked up a small digital voice recorder and microphone for doing some interviews while I am there. For the number of decks, probably my Tribal Wars deck, my favorite standard Slivers deck, my longest-running deck (mono-G Smokestack deck), and maybe 1 to 2 more that will fit in a deck box.
My big question for the trade binder - is it worth having higher value cards for potential trading or am I just asking for trouble?
My big question for the trade binder - is it worth having higher value cards for potential trading or am I just asking for trouble?
Depends on your style. I will be trying to pick up beat p9, semi-power and top foils all day thurs and fri, therefore I took out the choice pieces from various decks and displayed them prominently in my trade binder, just in case. Plus that way I don't have to bring many deck boxes on the off chance someone wants a card I have in there. People will fly in from all around the world (hence, "Worlds"...) so this is your best chance to pick up cards you can't get at your local area without resorting to ebay. As such I have dismantled any deck I don't realistically think I'll play to make them available for trade towards cards for deck I will build/play.
What I am bringing?
1x metrocard (I live in Brooklyn, $4=train + bus to Javitz = good times)
1x Hat - more convenient and stylish than an umbrella, though weather reports look like it'll be clear just windy and cold.
1x light jacket, light sweatshirt. not too thick or too many layers here folks. It's only minutes from public transportation, so that heavy winter coat will only bog you down and be one more thing to carry all day.
Xx travelsize deodorants - to offer stinky opponents. seriously, wtf?
5x decks, 2 for t2, 2 for 1.x, 1 empty box to carry "sealed" pool
2x trade binders, 1 with "eh/meh" stuff and the other with the goods.
Xx Water/Arizona iced tea - hydration is good, see below
Xx Ibufrofen - for headaches, muscle aches, general fatigue and symptoms of dehydration
1x free draft coupon. Scrubbing out of NY states at least gets me $17 worth of free cards - and a shot at prize packs.
Xx Ca$h, events cost bills, make sure you bring enough. though they will take CC, so plastic should be fine too. though the food places may only take greenbacks, likewise if you plan on offering dough for someone's cards (don't get caught though, as that may be an eject-able offense.
Xx sense of humor and willing to have a good time. Sure it's a huge center for serious tourneys, but hell man it's still a game. Look for me as the guy making dumb play mistakes and laughing about it, or cracking lame jokes and being a good sport.
Next time you post popular opinions, please word them in such a way that they're not infractable. Someone may be widely thought to be the dullest tool in the shed, but you can't publicly call him that, which as a mod I can neither confirm nor deny that I fervently believe he's a tool.
My big question for the trade binder - is it worth having higher value cards for potential trading or am I just asking for trouble?
If it's really high value stuff (anything worth more than $40, in my opinion; but then again, it's up to you what you consider to be high value), I'd keep it in a separate binder, so that you can do "normal trades" with your regular stuff without people constantly asking you to trade your mox for their 'goyfs.
I don't have to worry about this, as I don't have anything worth more than Tarmogoyf (... at least not that I know of!)

Good call on all the bolded stuff. I always carry aspirin/ibuprofen so I forgot to mention it. And I'm bringing a hat, so you're right, the umbrella probably won't be necessary.
I'm about to pack up my bag now (even though I won't be leaving for NYC until early Saturday morning), just so I'm ready and only have to worry about the last minute stuff. I am so pumped!

hey pitimp, what you gonna look like at worlds, so i know how to find ya to say whats up? maybe get on the recorder
I will likely be wearing white high tops, a M.C. Hammer t-shirt saying "Can't touch this" and aviator style glasses.
Just kidding.
I will likely be wearing a Minnesota twins hat (usually backwards), jeans, some type of red tshirt and will be carrying everything on my back, holding a voice recorder with a full sized microphone. My friend who is on the U.S. National team called one of the PR people for Wizards and they told him that you can only use one voucher per dci number.
As reguards to the free vouchers, From the day worlds starts (thursday i believe) you can use 1 free voucher per DCI Per Day! so 4 in total, (thats what i was told when i asked DCI Help on Wizards.com) but dont quote me they may have gotten it wrong...
As for what you should bring tom, Probably some type of clothing i know you wanna stay true to your Magic Player Roots but unfortunately! nobody likes BO lol soo more clothes is probably good!
As for if you should bring your more expensive cards, only if you want to get more expensive stuff in return, SOO For example! Try to avoid bringing stuff thats worth 40-100 dollars if your looking to trade for t2 rares lol,
Well...no. If you went to Neutral and snagged up as many free draft tickets as you could, I would gander that it isn't fair for you to walk in and do ten free side-events, all rare-drafting to pay for something, ykno?
That aside, if it is indeed 1 per day, I will hold onto my spares. Or, you know, use my extra coupons that I got from the Oversized Magic games yesterday. Heh.
EDIT: I'll be out at the CBS Morning Show today, and at Worlds. About 5'9", red/white jacket. Probably playing a DS, in all honesty. You'll know me by the binder :P.
