How many of a legendary land in a deck?

  • #1
I was wondering, with things like Urborg, tomb of yawgmoth, and pendelhaven, etc, how many of those are suggested per deck? What do the pros do with legendary lands? My first instinct is to say maybe 2 at the most? Any ideas/suggestions?

Two is the typical number of legendary lands of a single name in a deck. Sometimes there are only singletons, but for consistency's sake, two is a good choice. Three means a higher likelyhood for the extras sitting stagnant in your hand. And nobody wants dead cards in their hand.

Great, that is what I thought. If there were 3 it would come up too often.

It depends on how central the land is to your strategy. A lot of green mana Elf decks run a singleton Pendelhaven simply because it does the same thing as a Forest while providing a little extra bonus but they don't want to draw multiples. :symu::symb: Teachings decks that want to fire off a massive Tendrils of Corruption might run three or even four Urborgs because they want to increase their chances of drawing one. Drawing multiples isn't as bad for them since they can ditch them when they play Careful Consideration.

So there's not really a set rule as to how many Legendary Lands you run. It all depends on which one it is and what its role in your deck is.

    Record: 3-2

Simpsons Mafia (Newbie) - Vanilla Mafia - Win
The Fiasco Corporation - Town Reporter - Loss
Doomsday Mafia - Mafia Roleblocker - Win
Battle Royale Mafia - Serial Daykiller - Loss
Danger City Mafia - Vanilla Town - Win

Pretty much. It really depends on how crucial that land is to your deck's success, and whether or not it is in color. Urborg is one of the few Legendary lands that gets played in multiples, because it has such a powerful ability.

Consider running one copy more than you'd expect if you can fit Crop Rotation into the build. Tap Gaea's Cradle, Crop Rotate it out and put another Gaea's Cradle into play........etc
