I can't seem to find an online explanation of how competitive DCI ratings work in detail. I've accessed my own info, but the numbers mean nothing to me without knowing how it works. ie, how many points different tournaments/games/matches are worth, etc.
Anyone know where I can get this sort of information? I'm looking on the Tournament Center and the DCI page, but I still can't seem to find what I'm looking for.
I'm not sure if there's a specific page that explains it, but here's what I know about DCI rating:
You have a separate Limited and Constructed rating (and a composite rating), both of which start at 1600. When you play matches in sanctioned tournaments, you gain or lose points (or do nothing for some draws).
Each match is zero sum, meaning however many points the winning player gains, the losing player loses exactly that many.
Different tournaments have different K-values, ranging from 8 (things like FNM and prereleases) to 48(?) (things like the invitational) (I'm not sure on the upper bound). The K-value is the maximum number of points a player can gain or lose in a given match. However, the actual value gained or lost is also dependent on the difference in the two players ratings coming in (the lower the winning player's rating, the more points gained, the higher the losing player's rating, the more points lost). I believe if both players have exactly the same rating coming in, the number of points gained/lost will be half of the tournament's K-value (don't hole me to that one).

I hope that helps.

I don't care if I was framed for murder if I only got a warning I would let it go.
This provides pretty good info on your rating.
