There is probably not a good forum to post my rant, but I thought this one is as close as it gets.
I picked up what I thought was a deal on an auction site, Lightning Bolt Promo, for less than 15.00. Before checking out, I also picked up a stack of 10 foiled dragons from the same seller so I can get some shipping discount.
But the seller replied there is no discount for the 10 foiled dragons, so my shipped totalled at 9.50. Which isn't a big deal because top-loaders and padded envelope can get expensive, and packing 11 cards does take some time. The seller also wanted another 6.00 for insurance which I didn't accept, since this is conducted through paypal, the seller is responsible for the condition of the goods during shipping.
So two days later I got an plain old letter envelope in the mail with hand-written address. I noticed the envelope is so beat up that a corner is ripped with the contents poking through. Then to my horror I saw the content was unprotected magic cards being forced through the rip. It turned out the seller stacked the 11 bare cards together, wrapped them in a sheet of plain paper, and dropped it in a 0.41 first-class letter envelope.
Even if I had purchased insurance, the post office stated the cards were not packed with proper protection. So for 9.50 shipping and handling, the seller didn't even have the decency to invest in some sleeves, top-loader and a padded envelope.
So owners of NM/Mint Lightning Bolt Promo may rejoice, for another copy of the card has passed on and increased the value of your investment.
EDIT: P.S. Of the 11 cards in the stack, most of them now have a 1/3 inch bented corner that's starting to rip on the back of side of the card.
He did not mention how the cards were going to be shipped, and he's had over 200 successful transaction. I was surprised that someone with so much experience would ship cards without any protection at all. This one transaction probably rank at the bottom of my list in terms of packaging quality.
My other favorite packaging all-stars include,
Shipping cards in sleeves without top-loader (bent cards)
Six cards crammed into one plastic sleeve (cards scratched each other up, and the insertion pressure of 6 cards in a sleeve peeled back the corners)
That definitely deserves to be reported. Did he specifically state in the auction that he was going to ship in toploaders?
I don't think it matters since it is still his responsibilty to make sure the items get there in the description described. And for $10 shipping on 11 cards, Toploaders are expected, even if it a bunch of cards sandwiched between 2 toploaders (People stop doing this)
BTW are toploaders really that expensive? I have a huge box (200ish) of them sitting under my bed that I picked up at a flee market for like $3.

If this was on ebay I really think you should post that sellers ID here as a service to the rest of us who shop on eBay frequently. Sorry to hear about this.
heh i've gotten some cards like that actually, i've never shipped a card without a hard sleeve, my flooded strands i recently got were taped on a hard sleeve along with my deltas which wasn't that bad seeing how the cards are in nm condition but i've never gotten cards that were beat up as much as you said, but yea man the fact that the guy made you pay full shipping for every card then shipped them all in the same envelope unprotected isn't cool maybe you can contact him and ask what the deal was
usually if someone won't give you a shipping discount for multiple items, it's a scam. there are a few scammers and rippers on ebay, and if you speak up soon, they usually don't last. if the guy explicitly states in his auction that combined shipping is available, or that cards will be sent in a certain packaging, you can take that directly to paypal, but if the seller isn't explicit about any of that, you can only try to get a refund based on condition.

I contacted the seller via email and mentioned that both the envelope and paper wrapper were ripped, and that the cards were damaged to the point that they have no collectable value anymore. He replied that in his five years of selling cards online, this is the first time someone complained about the shipping protection. Also, he found it hard to believe a stack of 11 cards could be bent during shipping... I asked him to respond via the paypal dispute system, then never heard from him again.

This seller has 100% feedback and 174 as a seller. That's a pretty impressive record. He offered shipping discount on the Lightining Bolt Promo, but not on the 10 foiled dragons. But I wasn't upset when he didn't offer any discount at on the Promo card, since the numbers of cards involved does require some special packaging if they are to be shipped protected. Man was I wrong.
Paypal is pretty good with refunding the buyer if the item didn't arrive in the same condition as advertised, so I am hoping this is going to work. I can't wait to send the cards back to the seller, with some serious protective material.
