That's right, I said it and you were all thinking it. My problem is, I'm not going to spend a Friday night playing Magic when I could be forgetting the week.
Does anyone else wish they would move it, say to Sunday night, or Monday, just a thought.

unfortunatly, it would be unwise of wizards to move it to either sunday or wednesday, as those are big church nights in the U.S., but I sure as hell wouldn't mind having it on a thursday or monday.
i dont play at fmn, but i know that i play mtg on frifday nights in my causual group, and we play to 12:00 or 1:00 in the morning, i know that most places don't stay open that late, but my point is this, its for the people who have jobs/kids/ and work, if its not on a friday noght or saterday night people have to be up early for work, or school. and if you have little kids that need to be driven to the place im sure parents dont want to come home from an 8 to 4 shift and drive little billy to monday night magic to wait for him for a few hours then bring him hime and try to wind him down for bed casue he has school in the a.m. fridays parents can at least sleep in on satursay morning, and as for saturday night parents and grown mtg players probably relax, catch a movie or go out w/ freinds. so fridays seem pretty awsome.
Why would Wizards move FNM to a work night? It's on friday night because most people in the community have friday nights off. Kids who go to school have friday nights off. Most people who have a working white collar job have friday nights off. I know alot of the high school kids have fast food jobs these days and as such, have to work on the weekends, but so goes it.
In the MWS world, for many players, winning also makes you a noob.
The same applies to:
-Knowing the rules.
-Netdecking.
-Not netdecking.
-Using old versions of a card (yeah, it has hapenned to me: "Ugh... ugly pic noob")
-Knowing English.
-Using phases.
-Countering spells.
<@MarkRosewater> THis is a secret we've carefully guarded but for this chat I'm going to spill the beans.
<@MarkRosewater> Some cards in Magic are better than others.
<@MarkRosewater> Ssh, don't tell anyone.
Dang, I thought this thread was going to be about how no-one at FNM can manage to be civil, and there's no rules enforcement, and you get little kids hanging over your shoulder questioning every play you make. 'Cause that would have been, y'know, true.
I think Friday is the best day logistically, but I too wish that it was on a different day. I also thought that this was going to be a thread about how the majority of people at FNMs act like idiots, interfere with games, and how the judges have a tendancy to give out the extra promo cards to their friends, because that happens alot where I play.

P.S. Glen Burnie is better than Rockville. The Dreamwizards store is the bane of my existence.
Well it does kind of smell if that's what you're talking about, but as it was, when I was going, I had to drive about half an hour on the Beltway (HOV lane FTW), I couldn't imagine going to Glen Burnie during rush hour.
In Nottingham (England), we've had two regular FNMs over the past couple of years or so. One on monday and one on wednesday, so as not to interrupt the drinking culture. From what I gather, it's similar across the rest of England. I know that if our FNMs were on friday, attendence would be tiny.
See people, that's what I want, maybe I'll just go to England...
Eh, my store does it the easy way. Sanctioned play on Friday AND Saturday. But you only get the promos on Fridays. Even better, each week alternates what night is draft and what night is constructed, so there is always the chance to paly what you want.
Well the way the store that I went to worked the primary thing was FNM, but there were sanctioned drafts on the side and that's all that went on on Fridays.
I'm curious though, I assume the drafts on Saturday were sanctioned, correct me if I'm wrong.
FNM for me goes from like 6-10 at latest... (I think it starts at 6 right now) so yeah, I still have quite a bit of time... and its not like you need to go to FNM every friday...
I have FNM on friday then i used to go to a place sometimes on thursday but i dont think they were sanctioned. Also the place i go to does some stuff on sunday and i think they give out some cards occasionaly there. But who cares about FNM promos they suck i have 7 javelineers that i really dont want... wait thats not FNM hmmm or is it have to look at them later
Friday seems like the best day. It might not be all perfect, but compared to the other days of the week, it's the most qualified for sancitioned events.
Monday-Thursday: School night so 99% of parent wont let their kids go out and play games when they need to do homework and definately not allow them to come home as late as 10.
Saturday: Generally a good day, but like it was mentioned, im sure parents dont want to drive their kids around when they want to rest. Not to mention, Saturday is also a church day. Well, for my community anyway, lots of my christian friends and relatives go to church on saturday, as well as sunday.
Sunday: church, obviously unable too. Not to mention, school is on the next day, so playing games until 10 wont come across fine and dandy to most parents.
The pros to Friday are pretty good however.
1) end of week, so you can pretty much stay up all night, and do your homework on sat/sunday
2) you can go to FNM right after school. Your parents are gonna pick you up anyways, might as well pick you up and drop you off at the store.
3) On fridays, youre most likely to hang out anyway. Out of all the days in the week, friday is the day i hang out the most with my friends. Might as well have that certain day, the day of a sanctioned event.
Although, the way the store near my house does Magic on fridays and Yugioh on saturdays, so it works out fine.
The TO and the judges have the final decision about whether you can drink at sanctioned events. Although with enough minors running around I think it would be frowned upon at most FNMs.
I'm curious though, I assume the drafts on Saturday were sanctioned, correct me if I'm wrong.
Yeah, each and every legitmate event is sanctioned. They even toss in sanctioned Tribal events every other week, I think. My shop is begging to do a pre-release, but they're being forced into doing a crapton of other events first.
How did it turn out? I don't have a clue.
So that I can get my crunk on, obv.
Wizards is my *****, they'll do what I say. And I say it rubs the lotion on its skin.

1) it may be your thread but its a public thread.
2) i am reminded of an old saying..."You can't have your cake and eat it to."
the way i see it is if you dont want to play fnm, then dont and go party. and if you fell partied out on a friday then go play fmn. or you can buy the booze and drink up when you go home from fmn like i do occaionaly.

We call this 'Outside Magic' for a reason.
Moved to Magic General

If you really want to play a card game tournament you should be able to sacrifice some of you friday night.
EDIT: Yeah, another good point someguy. Sunday is waaaay out.
So they already are kind of cutting into the Orthodox Jew market there.
Well, I'm able to, I just don't want to that much.
EDIT: Also, sorry for putting this in the wrong forum.

Are there really that many little kids? I mean we regularly had about 40 or more people 4 of which were unable (by age) to drive themselves. I'm pro like that.
If you could give a decent reason why it shouldn't be on Friday, okay, but otherwise you're just kinda complaining arbitrarily.

But it is nonetheless a good idea: if you can't party and go to FNM, bring the party to FNM.

It's sanctioned and everything, it's pretty much SNM, haha.
