Well, some of those Legends are simply too convoluted for the base set. Sliver Queen, a likely winner, would bring up the problem that they would have to add more slivers to the base set (which I wouldn't mind; I always thought Muscle Sliver should be in the base set, except made uncommon).

I just think that the wizard site is boring and I am sure most of you think it is too and they just like to see us have fun by pinning cards up to eachother to give us something to do and stay in there message board discussing card choices and draw people into their message board rather then others.
Everyone is gonna keep voting without knowing what it is for and then WoTC will say this card won the you decide contest and will be reprinted in 10th or Timespiral, and then say April fools.
I have no clue what this is about. I was formerly thinking along the lines of 'avatars', but that is highly unlikely. If I'm not mistaken, several of those legends already have avatar's on MTGO
My money is on either a reprint/prerelease card. Since only one of them will win, there's no telling what they're doing with it. Maybe they're reprinting one of the legends in some new set? That doesn't make any sense, as Sliver Queen kinda needs other slivers to work.
At the moment, theories are all we have.

Official Character Sheet Shredder of DAMNIT
DAMNIT: I should never have to shred my own character sheet in frustration.
Are you guy kidding? Pheldagriff is unstoppable! This guy is going to take it all!
Seriously: There have been speculations that slivers could be in time spiral. So anything is a possibility concerning reprints in that set. I would be suprised though, if wizards left such a vital sliver up to chance. If they want the queen in the set, they should have already cleared a rare spot for her.
I'd vote Sliver Queen over Akroma, and I'm guessing a lot of other people will too. They're both insanely cool cards. Both have oodles of abilities at their disposal (if you include all the other slivers of course).
If Akroma and The Queen make it to the final bracket, I'm almost certain the Queen will win.
As to what it means, I have a few guesses. Since Coldsnap is a revisited block mechanic and Time Spiral will likely feature Slivers and old mechanics from previous sets, among other things, reprtinting or reDESIGNING a legendary creature would fit right in!
Mageta the Lion pwns all of them, just because he survives his own Wrath ability. It's a no-brainer. Akroma doesn't have pro-white, not like it matters.
I've actually set up brackets ALA march madness and picked my winners, though I'm not necessarily voting for who I think will win. My votes for the first round:
Niv-Mizzet vs Kataki - sorry Kataki, but Niv-Mizzet is just way cooler than you are. He's a dragon, he flies, he lets me draw cards, and he's very smart. What do you do? Hose affinity. Not very cool. Useful though.
Mistform Ultimus vs Mirri - I don't know, really. Misform Ultimus is cool, but I actually own a Mirri. I'll probably go with Mirri, as I'm pretty sure the Ultimus will win regardless.
Kamahl vs Kagemaro : Kagemaro is going to win here because he's more recent and very playable in standard. I'm voting for Kagemaro anyway, because I like him more than Kamahl.
Rubina vs Kiki-Jiki - Kiki-Jiki is much cooler, much more playable, and much more recent. I'm voting for Kik-Jiki.
Baron Sengir vs Captain Sisay - I'm voting for the Baron, because Homelands doesn't get enough love and I don't really like the Weatherlight that much.
Braids vs Yosei - I'm going with the dragon on this one (represent my brother!). Braids is cool, but Yosei is playable and cool. And a dragon.
Darigaaz vs KoNT - I'm going with Darigaaz; again, he's a dragon (and thus cool) and he's playable (of course, so is Kodama of the North Tree). Sorry tree spirit, but I have to go with the dragon on this one as well. Also, Darigaaz has a neat effect.
Johan vs Visara - I'm voting for Johan, because I need to vote for SOMETHING from legends.
Sliver Queen vs Vhati - Sliver Queen, because she's cooler and more powerful.
Silvos vs Lin-Sivvi - I'm voting for the rogue elemental, just because I can.
Rorix vs Verdeloth - Yeah, I know, I sound like part of the dragon lobby, but dragons are cool. Plus, Rorix is from Shiv.
Atogatog vs Ishan's Shade - Ishan's Shade is ten thousand times cooler than Atogatog, and really, a great deal cooler than pretty much everything else in Homelands put together (excluding Memory Lapse, Serrated Arrows, and Merchant Scroll). He's not terribly playable, but you should all vote for him because he's cool. Also, read his flavor text and other flavor text he shows up on.
Ink-Eyes vs Memnarch - I'm going with Ink-Eyes, because ninjas are cool and Ink-Eyes is very much playable in standard.
Arcanis the Omnipotent vs Bosh - Oh come on. One guy is a lousy rusted golem. The other guy has the word "Omnipotent" in his name. I'm going with Arcanis, and you should too. Plus, his art rocks.
Circu vs Dromar - Circu, Dimir Lobotomist is just awesome. He's a lobotomist. What's not to love? He's really, really cool and oozes flavor. Plus, he's almost playable. Vote for the lobotomist!
Tolsimir vs Sol'kanar - Oh come on. I think Tolsimir is cool and all, but Sol'kanar the Swamp King is just awesome. He's large, he gains you life, he swampwalks, and he's an almost playable card from legends. I have to go with Sol'kanar. Plus, he is the swamp king. You all should vote for him too; Legends should represent itself well, and he's likely to get as far as any of them.
Akroma vs Hazezon - Oh come on. You're asking me to vote against the guy who gave us sand tokens? Akroma is massively overrated. Sure, she's an angel, but Hazezon is a classic with better artwork and a cooler ability (not as powerful, but cooler). Besides, who wants to see Akroma win? Not I! Thus, Hazezon. If you listen to one thing I say, vote Hazezon over Akroma. Seriously.
Kokusho vs Eight-and-a-Half-Tails - Eight-and-a-Half-Tails is neat, flavorful, has a really fun ability, and is borderline playable. He's fun and doesn't cost $20. I'm going with the fox.
Tahngarth vs Selenia - Tahngarth is cooler by miles. I'm going with the minotaur.
Laquatus vs Gerrard - I'm afraid I'm going to have to go with Gerrard on this one. Yeah, I know, I don't want Gerrard to win either, but Laquatus just doesn't impress me (even if he was at one point used as a T1 kill condition).
Meloku vs Chromium - Chromium is an Elder Dragon Legend. Elder Dragon Legends are inherently cool. Plus, he has a one word name. He's really cool, he's big, he's buff, he's a dragon, AND he's older than you are (and, likely, older than many current Magic players). He's very fun, and neat (and has good art). Vote Chromium!
Spirit of the Night vs Glissa - Spirit of the Night is just so cool. Not only does he have a terrible three-card combo to get him out, but he's a house. And has a neat name which is legendary but yet is not really a name per se. I like him a lot and he's fun to play with, so I'm going for him.
Multani vs Ghost Council - I'm going with the Ghost Council on this one, just for their cool factor. I'm not too fond of the Maro ability, though I have nothing against Multani in particular.
Isamaru vs Phage - come on, you know Isamaru is way cooler than Phage is. Sure she has a neat ability, but Isamaru is a 1 drop 2/2 who is playable, fun to use, has cool art, and is an interesting concept.
Squee vs Cromat - I'm going with Chromat on this one. Yeah, I love Squee too, but I think Chromat has better art. I mean, what is it?
Phelddagrif vs Keiga - I'm going with my brother, the legendary dragon.
Nicol Bolas vs Volrath the Fallen - Both are neat, but again, Nicol Bolas is an Elder Dragon Legend. And he's actually halfway decent, too. Thus, he must be voted for.
Godo vs Reya - Vote Godo! He fetches up fun equipment.
Ertai vs Ascendent Evicar - Ertai is cooler and has a neat ability (counter target spell? I'm up for it!). Even if he isn't amazing.
Karn vs Mageta - I don't know who Mageta is, but Karn is cooler anyway.
Dakkon vs Razia - Dakkon is cooler. Don't vote for Razia just because she has cleavage and is nearly naked.
Eron vs Rith - Rith, I'm sorry, but I have to vote for Eron. Not only is he the second coolest Homelands legend, but he actually is almost playable. And for Homelands, that's a good shot. Plus, Eron is immortal.
Anyway, I pick for the final four:
Kokusho, the Evening Star
Keiga, the Tide Star
Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni
Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind
Why?
Well, Kokusho really is the hardest one; he's going up against Akroma in the second round, and in any other division Akroma would probably make it to the finals. Problem is, Kokusho is very popular and very much in standard at the moment, and a lot of players didn't play when Akroma was around. I'm certainly not voting for her, and I expect it to be rather close. Whoever wins it, though, wins the whole thing.
Keiga is going to beat out Squee because although the Weatherlight has its own nutso fanbase, Keiga is recent and a dragon, which draws on two major camps. I expect it to come down to Karn and Keiga, and Keiga is just going to win there due to the timmys and Spikes; only Vorthos and Johnny will vote for Keiga, and though there are many of both I think that enough will defect to the dragon factor to give Keiga the win.
Ink-Eyes is really quite popular and is a ninja, which gives her major cool points. Sliver Queen is neat, but I think that Ink-Eyes' recentness will prevail. I'm guessing that Sol'kanar will do unexpectedly well, ending up falling to Ink-Eyes, and that Arcanis will also fall to Ink-Eyes. I'd say this is the most certain of my choices.
Niv-Mizzet is probably going to win Tolaria; the only real competitors he has are Mistform Ultimus and Yosei, and Niv-Mizzet wins out on Yosei in coolness. That means he only has to beat Mistform Ultimus, which will certainly face him second round (sorry Mirri). That will be a tough match (and the battle of the Johnnies), but I'm guessing his dragon-factor will prevail.
In the final four, I predict that Kokusho will win out; I'm not sure who between Ink-Eyes and Niv-Mizzet will win, I picked Niv-Mizzet but I'm not sure that dragon > ninja on WotC boards. But Kokusho will beat either of them, most likely, though Ink-Eyes may be more popular than I think.
I think I might be overly biased in my choices towards recent cards (in what I think people will pick), but honestly, Akroma may be popular but she isn't that recent, while a lot more people will be familar with Ink-Eyes, the dragon spirits, and various others. A lot of the older choices will come down to stuff like "are they a dragon" and "is their artwork cool". And, frankly, Akroma's artwork just isn't that good IMO.
How dare you diss Mageta!!! He is a Wrath with legs! And he stays around after the blast. Mageta wins all battles, unless the opponent is indestructable. I don't want to make fun of Karn, but all he does is make artifacts into creatures. that is more doom to bring with Mageta. Mageta pwns.
As to what it means, I have a few guesses. Since Coldsnap is a revisited block mechanic and Time Spiral will likely feature Slivers and old mechanics from previous sets, among other things, reprtinting or reDESIGNING a legendary creature would fit right in!
-Pharmalade.
Last I checked (admittedly this was when I stopped for a while around Betrayers) things like sliver queen and the Legends legends were on the reserved list. So reprints are out. I supposed redesigning is possible but it still seems unlikely.
I think this voting is for Time Spiral and I'm sure everyone is noticing that the "matchups" tend to be between constructed playables and utter crap. And knowing how the voting will go, (and I'm citing precident here, i.e. Dismiss vs the Urzas CS) utter crap like Atogatog will probably win.
I think phage has a chance to steal the show. Unlike all of the other legends she wins you the game if she hits. Neglecting casting cost, she is by far the best in terms of raw power.
I think phage has a chance to steal the show. Unlike all of the other legends she wins you the game if she hits. Neglecting casting cost, she is by far the best in terms of raw power.
Not really. Beyond the CC issue (at which point, she clearly is quite weak) she can't be "tricked" into play and really does't have the strongest ability. I'd say that of the legends for consideration, the strongest one is probably actually Niv-Mizzet for his insta-wrath and card-draw abilities. Reya's ability also trumps Phage's.
Really, a lot of the legends are capable of dealing with Phage. The first strikers, the pro-blackers, ect. are capable of blocking her and easily killing her. If you totally ignore mana costs, Verdeloth suddenly becomes a lot better too, as you can create infinite saprolings.
Phage is nowhere near the top of the curve even not regarding mana costs, because she actually has to get through. A number of the other legends are a lot better at actually winning the game for you, despite the fact that they don't have "Win the game" written on them.
And I doubt phage will win anyway; I can't see Phage beating Akroma or anyone capable of beating Akroma.
Ironically, in a game where you both lay down a legend every turn, the best drop would be Kiki-Jiki.
New vote today. In Squee vs Cromat, I picked Squee. He's funny, he's invincible, and he's a terrible cook. Who can argue with that?
In Akroma vs Hazezon I picked Akroma. Although I'd actually like to vote for something else than Akroma if it's feasible, Hazezon just does not cut it with a casting cost of one less than the angel and three colors at that.

I voted your opposite; I voted Cromat over Squee because I like the picture better and have never been too fond of the Weatherlight crew, and picked Hazezon over Akroma because, though Akroma is clearly the better card, again I like the art and like sand tokens. That being said, I'm fairly certain my picks are both going to lose.
I don't know much about Tamer as I haven't read the Legends storyline but I never really liked Akroma so I went with Tamer.
As for the second vote I will always Pick a Tempest storyline character over anyone, the fact that the opponent was Cromat, possibly the most pointless character of all time just made the vote all that much easier. Squee all the way!

I voted for Akroma and Squee, just because I liked them better than the others. I would like Akroma to go all the way and then lose to some crap. I would totally love to see Squee and Isamaru go all the way and then square off!
