Time to rant. This is one of the worst to happen to Magic as of late. Affinity comes to mind. This is horrible step back for Magic in general and R&D should be ashamed. 4 Pro Tours? Many people were calling for an expansion so that more formats would be aviavble at the higher levels. Sadly we are taking a step in the oppisite direction. Also no Team limited? Team block constructed? Shame, shame, shame.
I will rant more once I reflect but i wouldl ike to hear your ideas first.
No block? Those BASTARDS! I am SO going to send a mail bom or some Anthrax there way for this..Block was my fav .:(. Stupid retards...Everytime thye try to make things better, they just butcher it.
Jace on the other hand gives you card advantage for no life cost. On the contrary, Jace can actually take some damage for you. I'd think that makes him better than Arena.

Mixing up the formats is okay, as long as there is always an extended event. Cutting back to four is a mistake, because it gives fewer opportunities for regular players to Q and get on the gravy train. It does make it easier for the ALREADY QUALIFIED players, but not the majority of us.

Exactly. It is for the rich, in that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Also this is disappointing in that there are less formats for Pros to play and therefore the Player of the year race is less true in showing who the best player due to the fact that they are not tested in all formats.
Also the mixing of formats is interesting however the addition of Team Contructed over one of the more interesting formats in Team Limited is not interesting. Also the non-addition of a Legacy Pro Tour is sad.

I wasn't speaking strictly on the Tournament lay-out sense. The power of Mirrodon block and the new card layout comes to mind too when they try to make a good thing better.
I think most of what they did is alright, although I do not appreciate the cutting to 4 PT's. I still hate them for cutting block, and will prolly only be playing in maybe one-two seasons max now.

It would be better if one of the PTs would be Extended. I don't really mind there only being 4, as long as there are just as many qualifiers and grand prixs as normal. Longer qualifiying seasons sounds good too.
I like the fact there's a Standard Pro Tour, and the plane ticket arrangement is a good idea, too. It will make negotiations in the finals of a PTQ a little more challenging, but oh well.
I'm not sold on cutting back to 4 PTs, though. Especially with Block and Extended getting no love.
When something is popular, companies try to expand on it. When companies overexpand, the have a loss, Like the comic book companies did in the 90s.
Wizards may be trying to not overstep their bounds by makeing more PT's, but they hardly needed to cut back. The only thing this might accomplish is getting more people to show up at each PTQ, because there will be less of them. Which will make their numbers look better. (average PTQ attendence is up.) after the uppermanagment see the reports the PTQ attendence is up, they will think "Dang it, we should have more PTQ's and rack in the cash, I mean expand our customer base." So for the 2007 tour, they might have more then four.

You really can't get away.
I've tried.
I like the expanded prize support a lot, however cutting down on a PT was not the way to do it. I thought five was just the right number, but I think four is too few.
Team Constructed is going to be the coolest thing since sliced bread though.
All this pro tour revamping kind of makes me wonder if there is more to it than just wanting to make the PT better, it seems they only started doing this when they finally get competition for their player base from Upper Deck. Either way it is still pretty awesome.
Team block constructed seems like a very interesting idea. No Top in every deck(or whatever the Ravinca Block equivelent is). I think that it is going to make the deck building that much harder, as you have to use more cards than you usually would. If i could find a team, i might actually go to some of those PTQs..

Thanks to Legacy15 and Butteblues18 for the Sig and Avatar!
SorryGuy... what exactly is your problem with the new schedule? Your "rant" is nonsensical. First of all, R&D has little to do with the Pro Tour schedule, if anything. If you must "shame" someone, it is not R&D. Second, Wizards will no longer support any kind of Rochester format (including team rochester), a fact which which they announced several months ago. Also, the Team Sealed portion of the Team Pro Tour is widely viewed as far to random... a good team could be knocked out of the running due to a crappy card pool. This is fine and dandy for PTQs and local events, but is far too random for a PT. So... what formats are left? What's wrong with testing teams with a unique deckbuing challenge?

Read the announcement again: each PT will have more PTQs attached to it (does someone actually have a problem with this??), so that there will be the same total number of PTQs this year. Also, the problem of the prohibitive travel costs has been nullified... PTQ winners will be awarded with airfare instead of cash! (Try travelling overseas for $500!) It seems to me that this makes it easier for more people to make it to Pro Tour...
Also, everyone has their pet format(s); cutting any given format is bound to upset Someone. Yes, there's no Block next year, but that's OK. Maybe the following year there will be Block, but no Extended (which would also be OK). I think that's it's much healthier for the game to mix it up a bit. In particular, the new Team Constructed provides an amazing deckbuilding challenge that we have never seen... I'd rather see this type of PT than the same old thing over and over again, and I I'm obviously not alone.

t, Sacrifice White Privilege: End racial inequality.
as long as there are enought PTQ's in each area(give jersey 2 chances PLEASE!!!!!) I be happy and happier cause If I fluke and beat pros I'll feel better know I hit pay day...
Team Constructed! I love this idea. Force players to play more than one deck. In the current standard environment, what would you play when half the decks contain Tribe-Elder, and you are only allowed 4 for all 3 decks? Some new and innovative decks should come out of this....
I hope they allow for a community 45-card sideboard...wouldn't that be fun?
The Nay:
WTF? What's with the new PTQ prize structure? Sure, I can see it being good in some points, especially if you live far away from the Pro-Tour, but that's it.
Now, when you win a PTQ, your "value" of the ticket is going to fluctuate from city to city. What if you live IN the city of the Pro Tour? Do you get nothing for winning? How is this better than the cash?
I know several players (better than I'll ever be) who get to the finals of the PTQ's and split the cash prize. They'll never travel, and use the money for other expenses. How does this benefit them?
