This is a short how-to on how to make your own .txt file so that you can use newer cards. I'm usually not very good with these types of things, but I'll try my best to hash out any questions.
Generally, it's easiest and less time-consuming to make only a partial set and add to it as you need to add cards. It takes a long time to enter in the text for each card manually and I don't know how to simply copy and paste new cards into the set. Also all of this was done in notepad. I don't think microsoft word will work since it makes a different coded file.
First, you'll want to open an older set's .txt file. If you're like me, you probably have one floating around in your Downloads folder. If not, then you can easily find one by googling an older set's .txt file. There will usually be a link to MTGsalvation when you could attach .txt files to the site. Download one and open it up. If you can't find one, then here's the basic outline that you'll need:
Card Name: Keranos, God of Storms
Card Color: Gld
Mana Cost: 3UR
Type & Class: Legendary Enchantment Creature-God
Pow/Tou: 6/5
Card Text: Indestructible
As Long as your devotion to blue and red is less than seven, Keranos isn't a creature.
Reaveal the first card you draw on each of your turns. Whenever you reveal a land card this way, draw a card. Whenever you reveal a nonland card this way, Keranos deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
Flavor Text:
Artist: Daarken
Rarity: M
Card #: 151/165
Filling out the card name
Easiest part. Put the card's full name in this slot. Just copy and paste off the MTGsalvation spoiler.
Card color
This is the color of the card. B= black U= blue R= red W= white G= green Gld= Gold Art= artifact Lnd= land
Mana Cost
The card's mana cost. if your card costs 1RB Then you would put 1RB.
There are different types of mana costs as well. I'll try to update for information including phyrexian mana and hybrid mana later.
Type and class
Enter the card's type and class. Though it seems the program reads the first part of what you put here to dictate what type of permanent it is. If you enter Enchantment creature into the box then the program will automatically file it as an enchantment. So if you're making an enchantment creature, be sure to fill it out as Creature Enchantment.
Pow/Tou
This is for creatures only. For creatures like pack rat that have a * in their mana cost, use 0 instead. For cards that don't have a power and toughness you leave this area blank.
Card Text
Here, simply copy and paste your card's main text from the spoiler onto the card. For mana symbols in the casting cost you have to wrap in {}. For instance the bestow cost on herald of torment would read {3}{B}{B}. To add a tap symbol, simply enter Tap.
Flavor Text
Copy and paste your flavor text into this area. No need to add italics as it will automatically do that for you.
Artist
The card's artist
Rarity
The card's rarity C= common U= uncommon R= rare M= mythic
I don't think there was ever code included for mythic rarity, so it will basically be saved as a common. Maybe we can get someone in here to show us how to add mythic rarity to the MWS program.
Card #
The number of the card in the set. Found at the lower left hand side of the card in small print.
Now you just need to repeat this process for every other card you want to use. If it's needed I can do a step-by-step write-up on how to upload the .txt file into the master base without getting error messages and having missing cards as well.
