Hello, I just got a new phone and i am looking for a good app for it. Here is what I would like to be in it.
Card prices
Life counter
random dice roll
Gatherer rules for any card.
And that's about it. If you have any suggestions at all please give them
I have to admit, I haven't liked anything that's out there myself... but MTG Familiar is my favorite though. It's just simple and basic in design. As for a good place for card prices... I use a separate app called MTG Price Guide. It's fast and uses TCGplayer.com's prices. I would also recommend bookmarking http://ark42.com/mtg/pricelist.php. It's fast to pull up on a phone and takes SCG's prices. Some people like using that in trades for some reason, but it's good to have both ends of the spectrum.
May I throw my app into the ring? It's new, but it does just about everything you asked, short of Card Prices and Gatherer rules for any card, but frankly Familiar has that handled at the moment. I'm always up for any ideas for the app too. Check it out and let me know what you think! =D

Got an android tablet or phone? Looking for the best Android Life Tracking app around? Then try my app!
I created MTG Price to let players quickly look up prices at tournaments etc. on their smartphones.
The key benefit is that it gives prices from ebay, starcity etc. as well as TCGPlayer and it show historical graphs of how those prices have changed over time. It's still in beta but it has been running for a couple of months now and seems to be growing in popularity.
Let me know if you have any feedback - there are definitely bugs to work out
for life counters and everything, I use MTG Tracker.
for complete gatherer rules and similar, I use MTG Tutor.
for advanced card searching, MTGdroid. You can also use MTG tracker for this if you get the pro version though.
As the lead developer for MTG Familiar, I've gotta push that one. It has the most advanced offline search on android, it pulls prices from TCGPlayer, and its continuously updated. you can even request features, and I'll see what I can do about it. Check out the google code page and submit ideas here: google.com/p/mtg-familiar/

One problem with the search on this is that it will only search for an exact phrase
Eg If I'm searching card text, "Counter spell" returns no results, but
"Counter target spell" does - and some cards I might want to find will not appear e.g. Negate.
I like the interface more than MTG tracker and the card search is still better but I wonder how hard this feature would be to change?
EDIT
I just downloaded mtgdroid and it also has this problem
And your google URL gave me a 404
If you're looking for a great MTG life counter app you should give Life Gatherer a try. It has most of what you're looking for (minus the card prices and gatherer rules for any card, but there aren't many apps that handle those features well). Life Gatherer has random dice rolls (12 or 20-sided dice adjustable via options), a random coin flip, poison counters (which you can turn on or off to un-clutter the interface), and even options for Commander/EDH and Two-Headed Giant games. Most of the popular life counters have really hideous interfaces, but Life Gatherer has a very clean/minimal look which is refreshing. Here's a few links if you want to check it out...
