I seem to come across many FAQs out there about there being some cards coded into the game but being incomplete (no artist or no text). These cards being:
Red Guild
Blue Guild
White Guild
Green Guild
Black Guild
Artificer's Guild
Bright Society
Grey Society
Dark Society
Gladiator
Master
Royalty
Veteran
So, I guess my question is for anybody out there who could be able to help me:
Does anyone know what these cards did or what they were for? If not, who in Wizards of the Coast helped design the cards with the developers at Microprose? Maybe that person might know what they were originally intended to be used for. It seems to be a lingering, unresolved question. I'd really like to find out what they were! Thanks!

The game code holds many more cards than appear in the game. Aside from the remaining unused standard cards, there are lots of development cards which represent unrealized concepts. Most of them have no art and none of them has card text.
So they are development cards that represent unrealized concepts. Kinda like unknown in the old pokemon games. Placeholder cards that don't have a purpose, but they might have in development.
Hope that helped.

Whats the big deal about black lotus you ask? Well you see, there is no big deal about it. It IS the big deal.
Yeah, I know that some of them are placeholders, but most of them look like ideas that were scratched at the last minute. But maybe someone somewhere might at least know what the idea was. For example, Mark Rosewater wrote an article (link here) explaining and revealing many ideas for the sequel to Unglued that never made it out. He even revealed artwork and text for the cards. So basically the cards were pretty much designed. That might be the case with these Microprose cards as well.

If so, then it seems like this site could answer this question.
