June CCL: Every Good Boy Deserves Favor
Round 3 - The Other Side of Life
With your assistant at your side, you begin making your way from plane to plane, following up on vague hints and conducting arcane rituals to track down your wife. Eventually, the leads finally point to a destination: the plane of Cierou. Cierou consists of two major regions - an unending masquerade ball that doubles as the sole city on the plane, and the Outskirts. It becomes clear very quickly that nobody is native here - this plane amounts to an afterlife of sorts.
Tracking down your wife means you're going to have to split up from your assistant, at least temporarily, though...
Challenge: Two cards this time - instants and/or sorceries (two of one, or one of each) with the same rules text. However, once again, we've got some mana cost monkey business going on here:
One of the cards must have the same color identity as your planeswalker from the previous round.
The other card must share no colors with the other card, but have the same CMC and amount of generic mana in the cost (for example, if the first card costs 1WU, the second card costs 1 + two mana in some combination of colors other than white and blue, including possibly being two mana of the same color - so 1BB would be fine).
The cards should enable you to find something that was lost. This is intentionally vague: tutors are fine, cards that shuffle from your graveyard or exile into your library are fine... but they both need to have matching rules text.
EDIT: One minor exception to the "matching rules text". If you reference colors in one card, you may refer to different colors in the other card.
Round 3 cards are due Tuesday, June 17, at 12:01pm Pacific.
Round 3 critiques and rankings are due Friday, June 20, at 12:01am Pacific (just after Thursday ends).
We will cut to Top 8 at that time; the predicted cutoff will be around 93 points. (This does not mean that if you have less than 43 points at this time, there is no hope for you making the Top 8; it's just a flat-out guess at what 8th place will have.)
Scoring - and teams - are quite a bit different this month.
Technically, there are no teams this month. There's just the 22 of you, each out for yourself alone. Each round, you'll judge six people and rank all of them, 1st through 6th. You'll also be judged by six people as a result. The scores are weighted slightly:
8 points for 1st
6 points for 2nd
4 points for 3rd
3 points for 4th
2 points for 5th
1 point for 6th
...and two points are provided for giving critiques - one if you critique at least three of your six, and a second one if you critique all of them. (If some of them don't post cards, "no card posted" or something similar is considered a valid critique for the purposes of these points. I reserve the right to withhold a point for exceptionally terse critiques.)
This totals out to 50 points per round. Top 8 will be determined after Round 3, as usual, based on total scores from among all of you.
Whenever someone fails to do critiques, they will be assumed to have awarded "2.5th place" to everyone they would critique, giving 5 points apiece.
Once again, find the last person of your six for Round 2, then count down two more spots. That's the first person of the six you're critiquing for Round 3.
A'right, so two cards which are exactly the same, but in virtually opposite colours? A'right.

No wonder. The fact that sentence is too far from the first paragraph makes it look like it's not part of the challenge. Heck, I didn't see the "minor edit" until now. So, because of this, I'm ignoring the sentence Flintlock quoted.
Anyway...
GG Crono
It's good.
Raikou Rider
Both do make sense.
Doombringer
Egak
Makes sense in blue. I'm not so sure about red.
Jimmy Groove
A restricted Yawgmoth's Will? Why not? Still, I think they should be rare and be sorceries.
Moss_Elemental - Colors seem fine. Appropriately costed for rarity. Missed the challenge mark. willows - Victim of the Eldrazi Zoomba - First card seems stretched for its colors. Also seems like it should be a rare. Vertain - Wordy effects. Very wordy effects. Am Shegar - Missed the challenge mark. Arcel - I don't know if you needed to make them the same rarity. Ignoring that issue the cards are good.
This was a very hard one to judge. All the cards where pretty stellar and were all good. There was just a lot of good competition in my block of people.

Flintlock: Archive Trawl and Tomb Raid - I think you may be underestimating the power of scry by costing this only 3.
Raikou Rider: Helix Storm and Astral Drain - Nothing to do with finding anything. Would be more reasonably costed at two colored mana and two Xs.
GG Crono: Cleansing Radiance and Enveloping Gloom - Nothing to do with finding anything. Radiance isn't very white.
SelesnyaNewLife: Beastly Experiment and Monster Mash - Nothing to do with finding anything. Violates the symetrical mana costs requirements. I like that the two cards have the same flavor text.
Egak: Simple but Effective. The cards are very elegant, fulfill the 'find' challenge and are
not over- or underpowered. I would have made them common, though.
Jimmy Groove: These effects seem more rare than uncommon to me. I like how you pulled off
two yawgmoth's will-like effects with neither one being black. Personally, I would have made
the green one instant and the white one sorcery, since white cares more about auras and green
about combat tricks.
Moss_Elemental: Unfortunately, they don't 'find' anything. Otherwise, they're pretty solid
designs. I also like how one of the cards had to be multicolored to be able to do the same
as the monocolored card.
Flintlock
Not really something that works in B mechanically(I think this effect is acceptable in WUG), but at least it fits flavourfully. Scry 5+ is scary, though, although it's probably not broken. Egak
Somewhat boring, and even while scry is UR, huge amount of scry is not red. RaikouRider
Nice giant splashy spell. Both versions are a-ok color-wise. Fails sub-challenge of searching for something. GG Crono
Cool abuse of challenge errata. Both effects break the color pie, as white can only destroy-and-replace/exile. SelesnyaNewLife
Fails the challenge. Barring that, I like the cards, even though color pie bleed is clearly visible.

... ya, I flubbed it this time, darn my failing brain.... also I didn't see if they had to be the same rarity, and am not sure if that is covered in Rules text, I didn't think so though.

What do?
BTW, is it just me, or did a number of the contestants not notice this bit
No wonder. The fact that sentence is too far from the first paragraph makes it look like it's not part of the challenge. Heck, I didn't see the "minor edit" until now. So, because of this, I'm ignoring the sentence Flintlock quoted.
Anyway...

5 & 6. Doombringer & TacticalCelebrant
Moss_Elemental - Colors seem fine. Appropriately costed for rarity. Missed the challenge mark.
willows - Victim of the Eldrazi
Zoomba - First card seems stretched for its colors. Also seems like it should be a rare.
Vertain - Wordy effects. Very wordy effects.
Am Shegar - Missed the challenge mark.
Arcel - I don't know if you needed to make them the same rarity. Ignoring that issue the cards are good.

3rd. Am Shegar
4th. Zoomba
5th. Vertain
This was a very hard one to judge. All the cards where pretty stellar and were all good. There was just a lot of good competition in my block of people.

Currently working on Nations of Pentys, my first custom set and the first set in the Pentys block. (52/250)
No entry: (nameless one) and Doombringer

1.) Flintlock
not over- or underpowered.
TacticalCelebrant: drop
aftermarketradio: no entry
Willows: no entry
