Congratulations to Niadar for winning the August FCC's journey through Lorwyn and Shadowmoor with his card:
Bokorok's Bequest3(W/B)(W/B)
Sorcery (U) Chroma—Target player gains 1 life for each white mana symbol in the mana costs of permanents in play, then another target player loses 1 life for each black mana symbol in the mana costs of permanents in play. Only in death could Bokorok finally understand the nature of his world and his soul—and only in death could he make his peace with it.
Artist is Jason Engle.
Black gets lifegain against White, and White can make someone lose life if somebody is playing Black.
These are not that bad.
But the card is weak. Five life gained? Maybe five life lost? Gotta run W/B hybrids to get both. So you make a dedicated deck. Still a win more card, or one of those 'do nothing but stall' annoyances.
Thanks, everyone! I only just found this thread
And yeah, Horseshoe_Hermit, if I was designing the card again, I might have made it cheaper (SoronTheBeast suggested 3 mana, and I'm inclined to agree with him). But I like the general concept.
By the way, Bokorok was my legendary creature that I used for the second and third rounds. Here are those links.
Round 3 submission (Make a Shadowmoor-shifted version of your Round 2 legend) Round 2 submission (A Morningtide-style legendary creature or enchantment)
It seemed like a cool idea to me to have my fourthround card be a reference to those two, so here's the explanation of the reference
Hey, is there anyone else on the forums going to Rice University in Houston? We could ALWAYS use more people in our Magic games. PM me if you want to play sometime

It should count graveyards instead of in play as added flavor?
That might be nice....until someone builds a deck around it which makes the card read ":3mana::symwb::symwb:, Sorcery, You win the Game". The only non-counterspell card I can think of to stop it is Tormod's Crypt, and just 1 card that stops an instant win is too few.

Well, of course the mana cost would go up if I redesigned the card like that, probably to seven.

Honestly, I think this is overpriced at 5, considering the amount of setup you need to do to get anything out of it. Compare to Corrupt, which can routinely give you 6+ life for only a single more mana, and only requires that you run the least vulnerable card type. This requires you basically to fill your field up with non-token creatures or maybe the odd enchantment. It also requires that you run Black in order to get any solid benefit from it (as 5 mana for life gain is never, ever good). I'd say 4 is probably a good spot for this, maybe tack on sorcery speed.

It is sorcery speed......
Possibly four mana would be appropriate, seeing as how it only double whammys against other white or black decks/compinations of such. Colorhate isn't really that attractive, so making it 2 b/w b/w would help on that account. Congrats, Niadar! I hope I embellished somewhat on what you said you'd have redone when you explained it to me in person....

Black has for Lava Axe Soul Feast. Tendrils of Corruption, Corrupt are good too.

I wish I'd thought of THAT. AWESOME suggestion!
If I ever wanna use this card again [not for competition; just for fun], I think I'll do just that, if you don't mind.
