Top 16 - 2012 Indiana State Championships Currently Playing: GBStandard - Golgari Safari MidrangeBG RBWModern - Mardu PyromancerWBR RLegacy - Good Old Fashioned BurnR
Fire VortexRRRR
Creature - Elemental (r)
Haste, Prowess.
Whenever Fire Vortex attacks, you may cast a monocolored red instant spell with converted mana cost 4 or less from your hand without paying its mana cost.
2/2
BlackWaltz: Good cost for the effect and very powerful early game answer to creatures. Stealing an elf is a very solid move. Given that it is a mentalist, it shoyld only take control of things with a mind, so I would definitely limit it to creatures. A nontoken (or just cmc 1) clause might be in order too, but I like the idea of it taking over morphs and manifestations.
Raikou Raider: A 7/7 for 5 with relevant abilities is very good. I like the conditional hexproof here as to allow some kind of interaction, the bane of hexproof creatures are deathtouch creatures, so this is a nice fit. The color heavy cost does add to the flavor.
Fajen Thygia- Workable and mildly annoying, this is fine at 1 mana. Of course this seems a lot more efficient as a combat tricks deterrent during your attacks, asattacking with enough vreature can render those tricks uncastable. It also kills the post-combatmain phase if attacks are made, which can be result in putting enough though on how you're going to use your turn
Subject16- Accessto looting might make this a bit too powerful. Thr heavy mana cost kind of plays with tje kindnof effects you can get from tbis, but splashing is so easy nowadays that it might nor be limiting enough.
Mirrodin71: Hard to.pull IMO but interesting idea to try some counter manipulation. Rats and Hawks might work better with it, but 5 is still a lot.
Artorias: Nasty old-school hosser. This is perfect at one white
netn10: White plays with starting life totals, not Green. P/T could have been pushed a little more, or some sort of evasion given, given the restrictive casting cost.
kwanyeegor: Templating issues aside (I understand English is not your first language, and NJ has its own dialect), this is trying to be a restricted Disallow that can be cycled when it's a dead draw. You do need to mention activated/triggered abilities, as this can be used to negate static abilities as written.
Algernone25: Underwhelming for a Rare Saga with quad color casting cost. And the first two chapters in no way compliment or aid the final chapter.
Hemlock: The name sounds like it should be a spell or enchantment. "Monocolored (color)" is too restrictive from a design standpoint and has not previously been used. Needing the spell in hand hampers the marquis ability.
BlackWaltz3: Simple. Relevant tribes. Looks like someone wanted a new SB tool for Modern/Legacy Fish.
RaikouRider: Green stompy. Unique take on watered-down hexproof.
Eventide Sojourner
I'm not into the Devotion outside Enchantment cards. I like black artifacts as Phyrexian creatures because that's super flavorful but the two existing ones, Pith Driller and Vault Skirge, have (B/P) instead of B. Also BBB is quite strong.
netn10
I love green huge minions with so much green mana (go Gigantosaurus!) that are almost exclusive for monocolor decks with a ton of Forest ramping to pull them early (not this case). As a Commander player that hates monogreen decks on that format this card is like a living nightmare for me. I know white is more fitting for this card effect but there was Rebirth so I'll give a pass.
kwanyeegor
A cheaper Disallow with a restriction and U cycling? Like it. Also it's neat that you can cast before cheap instants to activate the card (also revise your templating!)
Algernone25
Love the idea of more sagas but I think the neat part of them is that the first two chapters create a favorable stage for the last and stronger one. Also feels odd a Kaladesh Saga without use or creation of energy counters (as much as I don't like them).
Hemlock
As a 2/2 isn't gonna last long on the battlefield but at least one-two triggers seems possible. So for RRR more than Monastery Swiftspear it gains +1 Attack and can cast a 4 or less mana red instant from hand (that's a lot of restrictions). Seems fair to me.
BlackWaltz3
Make it take control only of non-artifact creatures (it's a mentalist!) and I'm loving this card.
Subject16 - Love the name and flavor. The effect is going to get kind of ridiculous with scrying, which wouldn't even need another color. Decks would be built around this. It's definitely strong, but I'm leaning towards not too strong.
mirrodin71 There's a lot of formatting work needed, but the card underneath that? That would be immense fun. Persistent Petitioners is the obvious option, but things like Saltskitter, Mirror Image...
Artorias - Great card. Good flavor, especially since it flows into those colors' way of dealing with it (sacrifice the creature for some benefit).
Eventide Sojourner - This seems dramatically undercosted compared to Dread Shade and Primalcrux. It's definitely not uncommon.
netn10 - A 6/6 non-trampler for five green and some life gain seems fair. I would still groan every time it hits the table in commander.
kwanyeegor - Nice sideboard card for Phoenix. The johnny shenanigans that spring to mind whenever I see this effect are complicated by those triggers usually happening on a different turn (eg: Summoner's Pact). Still, not bad (besides the templating).
mirrodin71: The nontoken clause and the need to have five counters means that getting this thing online requires some deckbuilding strategies for sure. Stuff that bounces itself like Whitemane Lion seems like the right way to go imo. The ability to clone something on every end step might be a bit too strong, but it's solidly good.
Artorias: This is a very strong hate card against red and black, both are aggressive and have a hard time dealing with A) enchantments and B) trickle life gain. At uncommon this seems very printable.
Eventide Sojourner: Devotion on a phyrexian card - a 3/3 for 3 that only gets bigger and bigger - at uncommon? Reverent Hunter was a rare and is a lot weaker than this is.
netn10: five mana vanilla 6/6 that puts you back to 20? There are ways you could probably abuse this especially in EDH, but it's not overpowered. Very nice.
kwanyeegor: So two spells need to have been cast before this card for you to Disallow something? Not too bad but I can't see this being super playable unless you're the one casting spells as well. Cycling is nice though.
Algernone25: For a three turn wait and (I guess) a lot of cycling the payoff isn't fantastic. Aside from the Kaladesh flavor reference I don't see why you would discard anything on the first stage and then only artifacts on the second?
RaikouRider - I find myself wanting a little more for GGGGG. I think the balance here is right, but the card only appeals to the Timmy in me.
Fajen Thygia - This feels very easy to play around and punishes you as well--perhaps even more since white is generally a combat focused color. Definitely a unique way to do a tax effect though.
Subject16 - Barring library manipulation effects like Top or Brainstorm. Spellpyre is always getting cast for its second mode and that second mode is way too strong. Its not hard to mill into a giant spell and then use a ritual effect to cast that spell turn 2 or 3.
mirrodin71- I think this is too slow requiring five counters, needing duplicates of nontoken creatures, and coming down for a double CC cost. You have to do a lot of work to get to the payoff and the feelbads if this gets disenchanted after all that are real...
Artorias- Strong sideboard tech. Think this card might do too much work for a single mana against the decks it would hurt most. I would probably still allow those creatures to block.
Eventide Sojourner- Love the name and devotion actually makes a lot of sense for Phyrexia. This is excellent execution and I could definitely see this card being printed. Edit: Want to add that unlike Reverent Hunter this costs triple black (way more difficult to hit on curve) and unlike Dread Shade is more susceptible to removal as an artifact. Also you can drop this card's P/T instantly by removing another permanent with black symbols in its cost midcombat.
Top 3
1.Eventide Sojourner
2. Artorias
3. Fajen Thygia
Hemlock - Swing with the thing, cast a burn spell to support it. Seems solid for a rare, I think the costing is about right for the effect. Very cool.
BlackWaltz3 - Oh jeez. In commander this card is going to be nuts. "steal your sol ring" just enables so much BS, and not the good kind either. Glad it's a rare but in 60-card formats this is going to be...less than stellar.
RaikouRider - I feel like this should be "hexproof from noncreatureS", plural, but otherwise it's fine. Lack of flavortext also bugs me.
Fajen Thygia - lacking a "job" type looks REALLY awkward on a human. Gwafa Hazid suggests Rogue, even Advisor would make me feel a bit better, but the flavor is a homerun. You probably could get away with this at uncommon though
Subject16 - impulse draw or recoup that can target instants is solid, but for that cost it should probably be "choose one or both" or else choose between ImpDraw2 or Recoup2.
mirrodin71 - A good deal of grammar issues with this, and while it has a pretty grokkable means of working it's going to be rough to get going and the payoff doesn't immediately seem worth it. Again probably should be uncommon.

2nd: Fajen Thygia

I'm not into the Devotion outside Enchantment cards. I like black artifacts as Phyrexian creatures because that's super flavorful but the two existing ones, Pith Driller and Vault Skirge, have (B/P) instead of B. Also BBB is quite strong.

BlackWaltz3
Make it take control only of non-artifact creatures (it's a mentalist!) and I'm loving this card.

mirrodin71 There's a lot of formatting work needed, but the card underneath that?

I'm a simple Magic player since 1 year ago from China. Now I live in New Jersey.
