How is a flying 1/1 that reveals the top card of all libraries "useful in the deepest, darkest places of Ravnica"?
It's more than just that, although that's the most glaring one. I've finally seen a pattern in the Orzhov designs that looks damning. I'll explain later if I have to.
Mmm, given that the deadline was supposed to be catch-all in case not all the votes were casted (which they have been) and I said I'd move forward if all the votes are casted yesterday, I feel like I must abide by those two things.
On the plus side, we know that if Bolas nightkill someone other than Void this round that gives Void away as Bolas by default. The chances of us being either 3-2 or 4-1 are pretty high.
I'm sad to announce that zdtsd is our fourth Guildpact member exiled by the Inquisition. May his spirit continue supporting us from the halls of Vizkopa.
The end seems near, and Bola's influence now seems everywhere. I will be preparing these rounds quests, meanwhile team Bolas continue their maquinations (with a trap, and who knows if more.)
Sorry, I've been busy planning a role playing session for an event tomorrow. Ages 7-13, wish me luck

1 - The Escape. A devious plot has resulted in three of our agents to be wrongfully imprisoned. Design a spell or an agent that may set them free.
2 - The Distraction. We have a very delicate operation in the azorious senate, so we need a big distraction. Design an agent (or something for an agent) that immediately captures and holds everyone's attention.
3 - The Ghosthunt. An orzhov spirit has escaped their guild, and we believe it holds some very important information. But how do you capture and interrogate the insubstantial?
So it looks like Void_nothing, Cantripmancer and Superbajt went for challenge 1, I went for challenge 2 and Cardz5000 for challenge 3?
Using exile and specifically exiling the graveyard is a good way of making the intangible seem captured. I think it conveys the challenge correctly, and your history in this game leans towards you being town.
The number three helps point towards the first challenge but considering that two other cards also use it I can't rule out that it's a stand out number that a Bolas player would reuse. This creature is very versatile but nothing points towards it facilitating and escape, in name or in flavour text. Lean Bolas.
So the flavour here is an angel teleports them out of prison via the Parhelion? That seems to work for me. Lean town.
A Cleric in Izzet colors? Your designs are always super dubious, but I don't think that's reason enough to put you as Bolas, even though a medevac is hardly a means of escape.. Lean neutral to Bolas.
So here's my design process for this card: In terms of 'immediately capturing attention' I imagined the forced block mechanic that we see in stuff like Prized Unicorn and a fair amount of Basilisk cards (hence the typing - plus Hydra for flavourful "bigness"). Adding deathtouch and the counter manipulation I feel helped settle the "we need to answer this NOW" aspect, and the flavour text was a hint at the Azorius operation without being too overt, as well as the "get Boros's help to cement the 'everyone's attention' side.
Izzet and Golgari are suspicious to me, and my gut for now pushes me to Superbajt
Writing from mobile, hopefully I will find time to elaborate later.
Void is definitely Bolas, especially after what happened last turn and nobody was trapped. Fitting quest in this round means nothing,as it is probably trap, and even if not, it could be created from Cantripmancer.
Subject is still the most probable second Bolas, especially that ignores voids bolasness and blames me instead. His design this turn is also very general, as was majority of void'. Also, technically, this card isn't even a valid submission (wouldn't get watermark). Panic much?
Boy Superbajt, you certainly love spurious evidence. That I was alone in a quest last round is proof that I'm Bolas, and so is the fact that I was in a quest with multiple people this round?
The Golgari entry fits no quest at all imo - where's the "escape"?
Something we shouldn't have ignored before either is that Superbajt was the only other player to be on the same quest Raptorchan/Azorius had in round 2. It's not damning evidence but now that the odds are very much against us I think it's more than likely he's Bolas.
https://avatar.fandom.com/wiki/The_Puppetmaster
Here. The best animated series in history (fight me on this ). Rat as an inconspicuous mean of escape for a skilled mage, of course, golgarized. Also, I was thinking something like Magneto from X-Men 2 escape, growing deadly fungi from the planted rat. Either way, I wanted to make sure the escape part is not obvious from the text itself, but obvious if you look when the quests are revealed. Flavor text is more to polish the card, and make sure it's obvious which quest my card fits. Notice all my designs were like this, to not make Bolas work too easy if my card is revealed to them. As we can see, they circumvented it with throwing everything at their cards and hoping something would stick in multiple rounds, and sometimes they had it too easy with some obvious parts of other people cards to plagiarize (like antiblue mechanics).
Notice that there were 2 "make some noise" quests that are very easy to just do anything splashy and telling it fits. I didn't go for either of them, and Void and Subject did (one of them for each).
To Void - in the previous round, there was no trap sprung. This probably means at this stage of the game and with 5 people on the same quest that that quest wasn't a trap. If it was, it was not sprung to cover you, because it would mathematically damn you. In this round, we don't know what quest is a trap yet, so Subject telling that your card fits (ignoring for a moment that he is probably Bolas anyway) doesn't mean you are Guildpact, as you could have known this quest beforehand.
I made mistake last round asking to not vote for you. Thankfully, we were not trapped and we can still win.
I know it isn't sure they are both Bolas - but for me, there's no more probable scenario ATM, and I don't feel we can experiment anymore.
I agree that Superbajt's ( ) card feels like it has the least relevance to any quest.
Void's ( ) designs are really good. I know he's a good designer, though, so he could just be doing a really good job of imitating...but if that's the case, he deserves the win, imo. Strong guildy.
Cardz's ( ) card isn't a lock fit, but I can see the logic behind it, especially on what feels like a hard quest. Possible that he's just designing to his own trap, but...I'm leaning Guildy.
Subject16...hmm, @Subject: Why do you feel the need to not make your flavor text too overt?
@Superbajt: You accuse others of "throwing everything at their cards and hoping something would stick", but your card this round feels very "let's do a wide variety of things to cover all the possible bases". I feel like that's a disconnect in mindset (a Guildy wouldn't attack others for doing something that they themselves did that round); can you reconcile that for me? I also don't feel like it's "obvious" in conjunction with the quests that your rat = escape enabler. How do the three modes of the spore counters effect escapes?
If Super *is* Bolas, then I think it's highly unlikely that Quest 1 is the trap, as I think he would have designed better for it.
Something we shouldn't have ignored before either is that Superbajt was the only other player to be on the same quest Raptorchan/Azorius had in round 2. It's not damning evidence but now that the odds are very much against us I think it's more than likely he's Bolas.
OK, I admit my card is like this in this round, but if I was Bolas, then I would know to not look like Bolas, and not accuse other of doing what I do, so that's my subjectiveness, not Bolasness As I said, this is I think my first card that could be said that it was made this way. I was thinking of special fungi like here, planted on a rat because it seems like a good, unsuspicious creature to carry spores AND AVATAR IS AWESOME and about a scene from X-Men 2 with fungi growing and being moved out of the creature instead of metal. I feel fungi may make affected person venomous, menacing or more powerful (maybe only for limited time, but w/e )
I was on a quest which was a trap and I was not killed. That increases chances that I am Bolas, I agree with that. I know it's not true, but I agree that it can be suspicious.
OK, so... if I am Bolas, and 1 is not a trap, then which card have I seen? Sure, number three is on all cards, but why did I choose the rest of abilities like this? I am in BG, I could easily go for returning own creatures to hand (G), returning from graveyard, maybe sacrificing beforehand to be even closer to returning from battlefield to hand, maybe giving hexproof or indestructible if I saw Void's card. Did I? No, because I didn't see your designs, and had my own idea. Now ask yourself the same about Void's card. The first part is quite similar for me to your returning to hand (mechanic that makes creatures not die to removal or be pacified)(In theory, it could have gone the other way around. I doubt so, considering the history of this game). The second part makes basically no sense neither for quest nor for the flavor of the card (how is +1/+0 and haste help in escape, and why is it on defensive, evacuating teleport?)
I now took one more look on last card void designed. Just take a look at it, removing flavor. Take control of an equipment, and prevent damage from attacker. For me, it doesn't sound like armory... It sounds much more like some kind of confiscation and pacification! This card could have been easily a hedge against a trap and artifact, as damage prevention could have been easily taken from me, or even inspired by orzhov card. Or, trap design was indeed a Bolas trap, and void lucked out using design tool that didn't show up yet when it was a quest. However, they figured out if it the trap trap is sprung the game is basically a coin toss or very hard for Bolas (2v2, Void is confirmed Bolas, then either everyone votes void and it's 2v1 next turn, assuming no further traps, or another Bolas votes as void and confirms their identity while Juan chooses the winner at random). I admire that you took more interesting scenario in that situation
I still don't understand why you so admire void's designs, with regard to this game. His history is mess, mess, copy, probably trap, and now yet unknown if copy or trap. Look again on the first card - that's you who name Ftlthp, not him in this design! If the original idea for this card was search, it should have been looking at all decks. The design suggests rather conscription, apropriated for search afterwards.
I was hoping someone would get this, but it should be quite apparent my artifact was original to the artifact-based quest. The name is Armory of the Ages and it has a Pentagram of the Ages riff effect and a Shield of the Ages riff effect. I must imagine Superbajt is now going to argue that the artifact quest was the trap quest, however.

I hadn't noticed that, and you're right that it leaves no question in my mind that you KNEW the quest when you designed the card. What is your argument against the "of the Ages" quest being the trap card (and you, of course, being the Bolas Agent designing for it hoping to get a second player to join in and get trapped)?
Well all I can say is that it appears to me after the first trap was sprung, the Bolas agents suddenly got leery, or perhaps they decided to never design for the trap quests in the first place. After all, it was the only one that went off - statistically it's quite likely if Bolas were taking advantage of their own traps, more people would be dead/they'd have already won.
We're getting to the point where I'm starting to get paranoid. Each of you (from my perspective) has a 50-50 shot of being safe or not.
Superbajt's and Cantripmancer's cards for the round are the most suspect to me, assuming they are trying to shoehorn them into a quest that they were guessing on.
Subject16's card is generic, but that could lead either way of being bolas an making a generic card in hopes it would fit somewhere, or being guild and not wanting to give too much information away. It is weird that the card was accepted by JuanCu given that it doesn't meet the requirements for the game, but I'm not sure that it gives us any information.
void_nothing's card is the probably the most clean-cut of the round (but it would probably be the Parhelion II )
Note 1: It's going to be difficult for me to communicate for a good week, as I'm away on vacation and Internet access is limited. I'll definitely be monitoring things, but for longs posts such as this I'll have a hard time making.
Note 2: I had forgotten that there are specific criteria for Guild cards (i.e. either both colors, a monocolor with an AA of the other's color, or a card with the keyword on it.) My next submission will 100% abide by those rules.
@Subject: Why do you feel the need to not make your flavor text too overt?
Team Bolas still receives a hint card. If we're too obvious with the flavour text, then it's more likely that team Bolas could decipher the quest through flavor as well as through the card's mechanics. If the flavour text was something along the lines of "Whilst the Krasis rages havoc outside, our agents inside are slipping through unnoticed." then that can give away a lot more than we might think.
By that logic team Bolas would have to be constantly designing for the same quest right? They've only been receiving one hint card each round and unless they've been designing cards at random, they'd have to play off whatever hints they're getting.
Something we shouldn't have ignored before either is that Superbajt was the only other player to be on the same quest Raptorchan/Azorius had in round 2. It's not damning evidence but now that the odds are very much against us I think it's more than likely he's Bolas.
Explain your thinking in more detail, please?
It's not unthinkable to believe that Team Bolas has designed cards for some of their own trap quests. Back in (I believe round 3? End of round 2?) It would have been more plausible for them to have a card for their trap quest as there were a lot more players around to potentially go for them (rather than the less likely event of only one other player going for it). Now If that's the case, wouldn't it be better to play off the idea that they don't design for their quests (which is still a rather gauche tactic) to avoid people immediately homing in on that one other player(In this case Superbajt)?
Well all I can say is that it appears to me after the first trap was sprung, the Bolas agents suddenly got leery, or perhaps they decided to never design for the trap quests in the first place. After all, it was the only one that went off - statistically it's quite likely if Bolas were taking advantage of their own traps, more people would be dead/they'd have already won.
Also keep in mind that the last two rounds have both had empty quests (the Dovin Baan spy and the Guildpact holiday), and last round you were the only one to go for challenge 3, it would've been impossible to nightkill somebody without giving away that you would be Bolas (which is still a big possibility). It's very possible that team Bolas COULDN'T exile anyone, not that they chose not to.
I'm torn between Superbajt and Void_nothing at this point. One of the two is Bolas, but not both, and from this round's design I feel Superbajt has the weaker card. I also fully trust Cardz5000 as a Guildpact player, which actually means that Cantripmancer should be Bolas. It's actually surprising how far his consistently un-Izzet his designs are.

void_nothing: orzhov

I'm...not quite ready to vote yet.

Trap quest make this really hard to gage...
Note 2: I had forgotten that there are specific criteria for Guild cards (i.e. either both colors, a monocolor with an AA of the other's color, or a card with the keyword on it.) My next submission will 100% abide by those rules.
By that logic team Bolas would have to be constantly designing for the same quest right? They've only been receiving one hint card each round and unless they've been designing cards at random, they'd have to play off whatever hints they're getting.
