November is going to be Forum Games Month! The challenges for the month will be based on game threads in both this forum and from across MTGSalvation.
We'll start off with what I believe to be the oldest continuous (and indeed oldest, period) custom card game on this site: The Alphabetical Card Game. I randomized a color and a letter and...
Challenge
Design a monogreen card whose name starts with P.
Mongreen means what it does in the Alphabetical Card Game itself. This means its mana cost must have green and no other colored mana in it; the card's color identity can be anything. Patagia Viper, for example, would qualify for this very challenge, but Plaxcaster Frogling would not.
Make sure to include a rarity.
Stay tuned for October's CCL Final Poll. Anyone who votes will receive 2 bonus points for November's CCL!
PLEASE NOTE: This month will continue the use of the "Mandatory Top 3 Rule." For this month, you must submit a Top 3 during a round's critique period in order to receive any points for the round. Submitting critiques as well will be worth 2 bonus points in the round.
Your submissions are due Tuesday, November 6th, 23:59 EST.
Schedule
Round 1 — Open to Everyone (November 1st-6th)
Round 2 — Open to Everyone (November 7th–12th)

Prestigious MentorGG

When Prestigious Mentor dies, draw a card for each Elf Disciple you control. Not even death can interrupt his teachings.
2/2
Protomycal Shambler3GG
Creature - Fungus (R)
Trample
When Protomycal Shambler deals combat damage to a player, create a 1/1 green Saproling token. 2G: Target Saproling you control becomes a copy of Protomycal Shambler (This effect lasts indefinitely.)
5/5
Chronocidal Maniac: The ability that screams rare here is the copy ability. It is known what kind of mess an unchecked spawnwrithe can be, but this one is quite safer as you have to spend mana on it to get the copies. What I like the most is that it works with ANY saproling you can get. This is very strong and a bit weird, a solid win condition for a sapro deck, and it rings a bell on cool cards like said spawnwrithe, Polyraptor and Permeating Mass
RaikouRaider: What can I say, this is a very solid design and definitely printable. Only qualm is that it reminds me a bit to Territorial Allosaurus
zetsd: Interesting late game guy for energy decks, wirh some very relevant abilities. It can wipe 7 damage woeth or oppoaing creaturew, which is a lot, and it might fuel some huge mana shenanigans with all the acumulated energy. The mana battety ability is less relevant, but cool and useful neveetheless if the game gets grindy.
Cardz5000: You gave us a card with a very common green effect that showcases a new abiliity, I like formulate: It's a bit like a mix betweek kicker and suspend. Where you choose to pay for the instant speed and chance of paying time to make the effect better. I don't know why have you chose that the card is to be exiled face down, as the formulate ability is only to be known from the front side of the card and I'm quite positive wizards doesn't do abilities that can't be checked during play. On your card, curving into it would net you two lands and another in hand which is a very good ramp boost but not that far from expectable at that cost, see skyshroud claim, so this is ok,.specially in high rampers that will deal way better with the investment.
BrainPo: Neat idea, but I think it needs a vouple of small changes. Coming into the battlefield tapped is a bit of a bummer as you lose the chance to block with it (As a creature, it won't be a le to produce mana when CIP anyways) and as a ramp spell the double green hinders its ability to be an effective color fixer.
netn10: Veey simple yet in green's vein. I like that it is costed in a way it can pay for a friend by itself.
Cardz5000: This card seems great due to its versatility, where you can get lands so you hit land drops, or actually accelerate your mana. It seems a little too weak, just due to how slow it is, and I feel like this possibly could make more sense as a common. This card definitely seems printable, however, and overall a pretty good and relatively fresh design.
BrainPo: This is a very new take on a ramp spell. I like that it fetches a land and also gives you a creature, so you aren't just taking turn 3 off. However, this effect seems like it involves needless searching and shuffling, when you could have it actually be a creature that taps for mana. Overall, this definitely is a good design, and is a great twist on the standard rampant growth effect.
netn10: This card is definitely at the right rarity and power level, and is a good design. However, in limited, if your opponent has no removal that kills a 5/5, then the next turn they just die to you playing your entire hand. This would probably be printable as maybe a 2/3 or so, but seems far too good for limited as an on-curve beater that can tap to give you 11 mana on turn 6, and makes splashing way easier. This card does seem like it is a good power level for Standard and Commander, because removal is far more common, so this requires more protection to take over games.
Sephon19: This card feels a lot closer to Mythic Rare than Rare to me. It can ramp an additional land each turn, and creates a giant beater that grows and can attack each turn, because if you create one on end step, on your next turn it loses summoning sickness and can attack. But, the card itself dies to a Shock, which I think balances out the overall power. I could see this card printed if it created the token on your upkeep, I think, because that creates a meaningful decision of whether to grow your beater or attack with it, and creates a downside to it getting killed. Definitely a very new and unique design, and overall a great card.
Subject16: I really like this card's removal ability, and its ability to clone itself. The removal ability seems far too weak. In Limited, it would take too long to get enough Insects to be able to kill something, and by that time you opponent probably just sacrifices the land. But, the cloning ability punishes them for doing that, which is why this card is great; your opponent loses a creature or your creatures exponentially increase. Either ability on its own would be absolutely terrible, but they work together extremely well, and this is what a punisher card should look like. This is a very unique design, and I could see a card like this being printed, although it probably would be a Mythic Rare.
Gateways7: This is a simple, elegant design for a mythic. But, I feel like this card should be a rare. It just isn't that powerful a card, because it cannot attack through blockers. If it tries, your opponent ends up with a beater even bigger than yours, and you can't attack anymore. However, this is a great Johnny card; I am already searching Gatherer for cards that let your creatures fight each other. I definitely like the idea behind this card, but it has such a huge downside that makes it unplayable. RG Fall of the Hammer/Pinewood Blossomer would be an absurdly fun Johnny deck, though.
@kwanyeegor: I don't get the flavor behind this card. Why is there a penalty for not giving a Forest? Also, it feels kind of unfun to have a card that requires you to lose a land each time you want to attack with it (disregarding untap shenanigans.) However, it is an interesting concept.
@mirrodin71: That's a pretty interesting way to make a Burning-Tree Shaman-esque card while still having it be unique. I like how it doesn't directly punish the opponent but instead builds a threat for two mana.
@StonerOfKruphix: This is a really nice, really simple design! It works flavorfully well and seems like it would be fun to play.
@Hemlock: This is a decent idea, but it's much, much too undercosted - compare to Llanowar Mentor instead.
@ChronocidalManiac: This is a cool way to do a Permeating Mass effect, but I feel like it doesn't really interact with the opponent in the same, interesting way.
RaikouRider - Predator // Prey: This is a fair spell, and I like it. It's simple, synergistic, and although Predator might be a bit too well costed (4G or 2GG would be better suited I think), Prey is perfectly reasonable considering the variability of the spell. It's solid and flavourful. Good job! zdtsd - Pashiri's Masterpiece: I like this a lot. It turns Energy into a much more usable resource than, say, Aetherwind Basker. There's a risk of going infinite with certain cards of course, but that's the level of degeneracy that's expected from certain mythics. It's not a format warper either considering the lack of keyword abilities and the mana cost, but I'd be very happy to put this in any energy deck I can find. Cardz5000 - Perennial Blossoming: Formulate is a cool mechanic that has cool implications, and this card is a strictly better Seek the Horizon which is a card that sees play in land-related Commander decks, so this is bound to have potential in some decks. BrainPo - Prophecy of Awakening: This is an interesting take on Awaken, but I feel that as both a ramp spell and a creature spell it's a bit lacking, which would be fixed I feel by having it place three counters instead of two. Having it enter tapped means you lose out on a blocker for your mana, and the fact that it's a creature also means you lose out on mana as well. I like the idea, but I feel like it could be a bit more powerful for no extra cost. netn10 - Progenitus's Prodigy: Flavour compels me to say this should say Progeny instead of Prodigy. It fits in the Alara theme of being multicolour focused, and the ability to ramp is powerful and it's a shame it limits its availability in Commander. But it's a simple design that fits the challenge well. Sephon19 - Protean Whisperer: I'm not entirely sold on shapeshifters that don't copy things (there may have been some in the past but I'm still unsold.) Typing aside, this is an interesting long-term ramp spell that can potentially make a bigger and bigger threat. 1/2 statline for a five mana card means it needs bit of support to be strong, but in a molocolored deck this can generate a good amount of advantage. The cards is poorly flavoured however: the whisperer title reminds me of the Temur and they've never especially dealt with ramping or shapeshifters, so it leaves me a little confused.
mirrodin71
this is obviously a card that either does nothing or takes over the game... good planeswalker killer StonerOfKruphix
+1/+1 for every land is so big. probably costs too low. but cool Hemlock
Disciple is not a creature type but its needed for the card to work so fine. pretty much like Imperious Perfect but more for control decks. seems cool ChronocidalManiac
you gotta put a lot of mana to make this good. so its balanced. I like the name. I also like saproling decks so this card is good for me RaikouRider
a bit boring but it's an uncommon lol, uncommons can be boring sometimes. super limited star zdtsd
also bland yet does a lot. always hated energy but this card is interesting for making mana with energy and energy with mana. probably self fuels too good

Deal with it.
@ChronocidalManiac: This is a cool way to do a Permeating Mass effect, but I feel like it doesn't really interact with the opponent in the same, interesting way.
zdtsd - Pashiri's Masterpiece: I like this a lot.
The cards is poorly flavoured however: the whisperer title reminds me of the Temur and they've never especially dealt with ramping or shapeshifters, so it leaves me a little confused.

this is obviously a card that either does nothing or takes over the game... good planeswalker killer
StonerOfKruphix
+1/+1 for every land is so big. probably costs too low. but cool
Hemlock
Disciple is not a creature type but its needed for the card to work so fine. pretty much like Imperious Perfect but more for control decks. seems cool
ChronocidalManiac
you gotta put a lot of mana to make this good. so its balanced. I like the name. I also like saproling decks so this card is good for me
RaikouRider
a bit boring but it's an uncommon lol, uncommons can be boring sometimes. super limited star
zdtsd
also bland yet does a lot. always hated energy but this card is interesting for making mana with energy and energy with mana. probably self fuels too good
