Welcome to the Card Creation League! Everyone is free to participate in either or both of the first two rounds. Come join us!
Theme
From a high-concept CCL to a low-concept one; this month will mostly focus on rarity and Draft.
One of the most important things to maintain a healthy Constructed format is top-tier dual lands, which must be good enough to allow for consistent two or three-color decks (but not so good that everything degenerates into five-color goodstuff). Rare is about the rarity these usually need to fall at; uncommon (and common if it's Ravnica) dual lands aren't allowed to be that efficient for Limited reasons.
Challenge
Design a rare land card that can produce exactly two colors of mana.
What the conditions for producing the two colors are, and whether there's one or more mana produced, is immaterial.
PLEASE NOTE: This month will continue the use of the "Mandatory Top 3 Rule." For this month, you must submit a Top 3 during a round's critique period in order to receive any points for the round. Submitting critiques as well will be worth 2 bonus points in the round.

Timber Meadow
Land - Forest Plains (R)
Timber Meadow enters the battlefield tapped if you control a land with a land type other than Forest or Plains. T: Add G or W.
Grand Hospice
Land (R) T, Pay 1 life: Add B. If an opponent has more life than you, you may instead gain 1 life and add W. Most merchants of Bitwill sponsor the Hospice not to save the poor, but to ensure that it is comfortable and well-appointed when their own time comes.
Cheering Stadium
Land (R)
Cheering Stadium enters the battlefield tapped. T: Target player adds R or W. Some fans are excited, some are disappointed, but no one is indifferent.
Terinyo, a Tiny Hamlet
Legendary Land (r)
: Add
, tap an untapped 1/1 creature you control: Add GW Farmers can draw more from the land with their labor than wizards with their power
Cindermoor Haven
Land - Haven {R}
Champion an untapped swamp or mountain (When this enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless you exile another untapped swamp or mountain you control. When this leaves the battlefield, that card returns to the battlefield.) T: Add B or R. You gain 1 life.
I like this land as a BW land. The whole "life matters" really works in those two colors. While the challenge doesn't call for the land to work in a cycle, the spirit of the theme seems to and historically dual lands have always had the same mechanics spread across the whole cycle, with only Future Sight being an exception. Still, this is an interesting take and I get a real River of Tears vibe.
This seems like a perfect card for a Battlebond-esque product. Love it. The templating probably should be: "Choose a player. That player adds R or W. That way it is a mana ability and won't use the stack (Source: Valleymaker)
This fits great as a GW land. Like I said on Mom's card, while the challenge doesn't ask you to design a cycle, I feel the theme of the month (and historically dual lands) asks you to design a land that could fit into any color combination. That said, I do feel this one could fit a bit better in any color by just changing up the cost. This is also certainly VERY powerful, as any land adding multiple mana typically are.
I have always like the Champion mechanic and felt it wasn't nearly as explored as it could have been. I really like the idea of a dual land growing from a basic. That said, the cost here is far too steep for little pay off. Using something like Rakdos Crematorium as a baseline, sacrificing land for a land typically means that new land makes an additional mana to make up for the loss of the land sacrificed. If this would have added RB, it would probably be my favorite card this round, but alas...
Cardz5000
Championing lands is fresh. However, let me explain how this is worse than Ravnica bounce lands - and keep in mind, those lands are common.
Pros:
- Enters untapped
- Gains you life
Cons:
- Require championed land to be untapped and be specific land type
- Adds only one mana instead of two
- You can't play championed land again as long as you control championland.
So I guess cons are heavier than pros which makes your design underwhelming.
Hemlock
This reminds me of Pendelhaven so much. A legendary land with a very special ability and sweet Kithkin (right?) flavor. Nothing to dislike here.
Gerrard's Mom
A good idea but lands that can add one or two colors of mana are usually supposed to be parts of a cycles and here I am just not sure which cycle could it represent. Also may be a bit underwhelming and awkward.
Koopa
Can be a thing but I don't like how it doesn't interact with nonbadic lands without basic land types. May be a bit too dangerous to print this card these days, however, eternal formats have better toys.
Koopa - These lands would be really good and interesting for a limited environment, but you would have to pay much more attention to the non-basics you print in the sets around them (both those without a type and those with a non-basic land type.) On the other-hand, I wouldn't be surprised to see these replace shocklands in many modern decklists, which indicates an alarming amount of power.
Gerrard's Mom - Grand Hospice has excellent flavor and an interesting mechanical backbone to fill it out. I do think that this could be way more clear by separating the abilities as now it reads like you might gain life when you use it for W (which I honestly think would have been fine both flavor and power)
Raptorchan - This should probably use Spectral Searchlight wording, but all in all is a solid and simple battlebond dual land.
Hemlock - people will love their magical christmas turn one Memnite-Terinyo decks, and is a nice blend of the two colors with white caring about small creatures, and green making a psudo-manadork. solid design.
Koopa - These are basically duals for any two-color deck. I think powerwise I would have tried something like "any other land that is not a basic Forest or basic Plains" or "non-Forest or non-Plains land" however that works.
Raptorchan - This is functional for sure and interesting for Battlebond and multiplayer. It's not much of an upside though so I wish it had something else going on, as "effectively a tapland" is not an exciting rare.
Hemlock - Just a quick language note, using "a" in the name is a bit odd. Maybe "The Hamlet of Terinyo" or something. Anyway, this is a fun card, appropriate for the colors. I'm totally onboard with a varied cycle of duals for this challenge, and I think others would need different stuff like...tap an artifact?
Cardz - Life is kind of a weak benefit to go down a land permanently. It seems like this could add BR and be a riff on filter lands, either the hybrid ones or the ones from Onslaught or whatever. I guess the color choice here was to tell me that you intend this to be a cycle gaining life across all colors, even the ones where it makes almost the least sense. Maybe there are cool combos in there somewhere.
Koopa. Very powerful land. It is basically a dual land that restricts your deck to not using any basics, fetchable and all. Probably too good to see print.
Gerrard's mom: Nice mix of effects for the color, but I do not like the fact that you can't quite control what you're producing and that you're paying life for the black mana on top of it. Such limited fixing utility ia no good for the pirpose of a dual
Raptorchan: Nice battlebond flavor and a particularly exciting dual land utility for commander. I like it a lot.
Cardz5000: This kind of pales in comparison with Karoo and the like and one life is not much of an upside. There's a bit of utility there with tje champion mechanic, but the upside looks still too small
