Clockwork Hydra, taken from EchoMTG, by Daren Bader and Wizards of the Coast
Welcome to the Card Creation League! Everyone is free to participate in either or both of the first two rounds. Come join us!
Theme
From a high-concept CCL to a low-concept one; this month will mostly focus on rarity and Draft.
From common we move on up to uncommon. One good thing to print at uncommon is a decent beater that can be played by decks of any color, just as backup for otherwise-starved Limited decks.
Challenge
Design an uncommon colorless creature card.
The card can easily be, but doesn't have to be, an artifact.
In keeping with the theme "colorless" here means "no colored mana in the mana cost."
Make sure to include a rarity.
Stay tuned for June's CCL Final Poll. Anyone who votes will receive 2 bonus points for July's CCL!
PLEASE NOTE: This month will continue the use of the "Mandatory Top 3 Rule." For this month, you must submit a Top 3 during a round's critique period in order to receive any points for the round. Submitting critiques as well will be worth 2 bonus points in the round.
Your submissions are due Thursday, July 12th, 23:59 EST.
Schedule
Round 1 — Open to Everyone (July 1st-6th)
Round 2 — Open to Everyone (July 7th–12th)
Rounds 1 and 2 Critiques (Due July 15th)
Top 8 — Open to top 8 finishers (July 16th–20th)
Top 8 Critiques (Due July 22nd)
Top 4 — Open to top 4 finishers from last round (July 23rd–26th)
Top 4 Critiques (Due July 28th)
Final (End of month, winner determined by public poll)
Golgari Replica4
Artifact Creature - Gorgon (U)
When Golgari Replica enters the battlefield, you may sow target creature if you spent BG to cast it. (Exile that creature. It's controller creates a land token with "T: Add C or one mana of any of the exiled creature's colors.") The Phyrexian invasion of Ravnica began with decades of infiltration and assimilation.
2/4
Transguild Spy1
Artifact Creature - Construct (R)
Transguild Spy is all colors.
When Transguild Spy enters the battlefield, target opponent gains control of it.
Transguild Spy's controller plays with their hand revealed.
0/3
Mirror-Flank Chimera6
Artifact Creature - Chimera (U)
At the beginning of combat on your turn, if you control another creature with first strike, Mirror-Flank Chimera gains first strike until end of turn. The same is true for flying, menace, trample and vigilance. They were created as mounts for a vain warlord, who was killed while admiring himself the first time he rode one into battle.
4/4
Dustdweller6
Creature - Eldrazi (U)
Dustdweller enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter for each C spent to cast it. One of the few remaining after the Titanfall, it nourishes itself by feasting on the blight left my Ulamog.
4/4
Myr Gardener3
Artifact Creature - Myr (Uncommon) T: Add G to your mana pool. 2G, Sacrifice Myr Gardener: Search your library for a basic land card and put that card onto the battlefield tapped. Then shuffle your library.
2/2
Excavator Drone3
Artifact Creature - Construct {U}
Flying
Whenever Excavator Drone deals combat damage to a player, create a Gold artifact token with "Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color."

Improvise (Your artifacts can help cast this spell. Each artifact you tap after you're done activating mana abilities pays for :1mana:)
Trample
At the end of your turn, put a -1/-1 counter on an artifact creature you control. Yuk once made the mistake of activating this mass of pulleys, maces and blades inside his workshop.

Meaty flavor take, but Ravnica kind of seems like the place that makes the least sense for an agricultural-sounding mechanic. Maybe that's what you were going for, Phyrexian incongruence? I guess we get Sown land tokens in the packs so we could like stick the creature under it for tracking purposes. Also, while void says this clears the challenge, I took the extra text to mean that we were trying to make a card that fits as a last choice into a lot of decks, but this is a high pick for Golgari and useless elsewhere.
It's literally named Wall but creature type is Golem? This is a pretty bad way to fix your mana but it's interesting as a one-time ramp for your 11-cost spells I suppose.
Kozilek, the Great Distortion is the only card that cost double C to cast, as the marquee card of the colorless mana set. That should indicate how hard this normally is to get in a Limited format. I tend to critique with expectations of current color pie/mechanics as well, and regenerate has basically been dropped, plus lords never affect themselves. There is no synergy between the two abilities either - you lose your bonus to make one creature survive. I don't really know why it specifies nonlegendary either. Having a class type is also weird. Here is the correct formatting on the abilities:
Other nonlegendary Eldrazi creatures you control get +1/+1.
Sacrifice Eldrazi Sage: Regenerate target Eldrazi.
Sweet, it's not much of a beater but the incremental advantage should be useful for a lot of Limite decks and have interesting applications in Constructed.
Great flavor. I wish it triggered after attacking or something, feels bad that it shrinks right away. I think it's on the right track as far as having niche synergies and being weak.
Ravnica replicas is a cool concept, and would work well for the multi-color heavy environment. Sow is interesting (I would probably change the reminder text to "of any of the sowed creature's colors." if you're going to continue to develop it) but logistically would need a lot of support.
This not being a wall feels bad (even Golem Wall would have felt cool) depending on the format, the all colors ability is trinket text, good trinket text.
Current lord formatting would have this as a 3/4 and have "other non-legendary Eldrazi you control get +1/+1" and the regenerate would probably be swapped for indestructible until end of turn. This having a class type has some massive world-building implications/ramifications
This feels like its towing the line between uncommon and rare. I do appreciate the limited keyword list
Spell-myrs would have been a cool cycle, but storyline wise, this would either need to be in a supplemental set that was referring an earlier Mirrodin, or lot would have to transpire to return mirrodin to what it once was.
RaikouRaider: simple, yet nice. Right in the tradition of mana producers with tje extra of creating additional artifacts that could be exploited. Nice for limited aa it provides some really nice fixing that can be accumulated.
Netn10: To be honest, in the same way I wasn't quite excited about "seal" enchantments last round, I'm not a fan for color centered artifacts for this challenge. One of the things that make arrifacta so nice ia that they are not bound by color, and althought the myr itself as a carf is nice, I'm not very happy about it.
Thesedaiv: Lords have been present in uncommon for some time now, so you got it right. Still, there are many details in design that need to be pointed, as lords not giving bonus to themselves and regeneration being not used anymore.
Koopa: I don't think this is an uncommon at all. The chance of it hitting as a 10/10 and the flexibility of putting it at 7, 8 or 9 puts Gigantosaur behind. The effect is cool as a sunburst antithesis but this creature is just too powerful foe uncommon.
Cardz5000: I'm not sure how to rate this, it is a bit weird and a bit small, but auch evasion in colorless is, at the least, interesting.
Gerrard's Mom: This one also smells a bit like a rare but at least the power level is not that unbridled. 6 mana for a 4/4 is a lot and you need some other creatures to make this ability matter. In the other hand, I feel thia is an awesome limited toy with a relevant body, and I would be happy to play it.
On power level, this card seems fine if not a powerful uncommon. Mechanically I think exiling with downside (ala Path to Exile) has been typically a white effect. I do think the mechanic would play better if it destroyed instead. Also, it's weird that it doesn't mesh well with previous Golgari-guild mechanics (though this wasn't part of the challenge, just makes the flavor off). Also, by requiring colors to get the effect, it does feel like you angleshot the challenge.
Interesting card. This definitely fits into the uncommon slot as this card is pretty bad in limited but could be really interesting in the niche archetype. Certainly unique.
Major templating issues aside, this card is very weird. First, non-Legendary seems to be useless extra text. Having CC in the cost is also strange given that would be hard to hit in a limited format that doesn't specifically cater to that cost (and even in OGW, there was no card outside of Kozi that required such a high cost).
This card feels very white but I really like the effect and I like how it does play into the keywords of all the colors.
This feels much more common than uncommon. I really like how this fuels itself so any deck can use it, though it does feel like it kind of breaks the color pie by giving rampant growth to any effect (though obviously at a huge premium)
This cards unique texts and deceptive powerlevel makes this a perfect uncommon. I would have really appreciated some flavor text on such a different card.
