Welcome to the Card Creation League! Everyone is free to participate in either or both of the first two rounds. Come join us!
Theme
This month we'll be unleashing our imaginations to make the familiar unfamiliar, the old new, the antiquated fresh. For this challenge, I'd like us to take creature types with established histories and identities in a certain color or colors and extend them into a new color. We have seen Wizards do this twice in recent months with Merfolk (G) and Vampires (W).
Challenge
Choose a creature type which has predominantly been found on creatures in one or two colors. Design a two-colored uncommon creature card of that type, one color of which must be a traditional color for that type and the other of which must be a new color for that type. An ideal design will highlight new possibilities opened up by the color extension while still feeling connected to older creatures of the chosen type.
Make sure to include a rarity.
This submission will affect one of the next two rounds.
If it is unclear which creature type you've chosen to do for the challenge, please explicitly specify which creature type you've chosen.
You should choose a relatively prominent creature type. Choosing a creature type with only a few creatures in it is defeating the fun of the challenge!
Stay tuned for January's CCL Final Poll. Anyone who votes will receive 2 bonus points for Januarys's CCL!
PLEASE NOTE: This month will continue the use of the "Mandatory Top 3 Rule." For this month, you must submit a Top 3 during a round's critique period in order to receive any points for the round. Submitting critiques as well will be worth 2 bonus points in the round. Additionally, because February is an abbreviated month, I'm going to stilt Rounds 1 and 2 so that we save a day. Hopefully this will let March progress as normal.
Your submissions are due Tuesday, February 6th, 23:59 PST.

Glad you all participated! The round is now closed. Please provide constructive feedback for the six people BELOW you on this list and submit a top 3. Those at the bottom of the list will need to circle back up to the top. Only entries that satisfy the requirements of the challenge should be given a place in a top 3.
I guess there's a bit of being resigned to the natural order about Tolkien-y dwarves. Interesting to think about - they're usually shown as living in relative harmony with rocks, but there isn't really flora in the common vision of dwarves, so it's hard to make the green connection. Maybe art or a specific flavor treatment could sell it - as is it sort of just feels like "gardener" was tacked on to force it into green. The trigger is pretty interesting but it seems a bit dangerous and I think repeatable land destruction would be rare.
Illusions into red seems like a strong candidate, since they have that ephemeral nature that plays into red's lack of planning. This card doesn't play with the traditional illusion skulking ability, but being a virtual vanilla that is mostly a spell effect fits the colors well. I suppose with the cost restriction it could be uncommon. Seems fun.
Similar to DrB's card, I can only see dryads in red on a card or two, not sure if it would work as a full tribe shift since tree people are about as green as you get. Actually seems like an interesting part of a green-centric four-card cycle. I think it looks appealingly strong but is hard enough to pull off that the development should be fine. I can kind of sense the disappointment of hundreds of people trying to run out Stomping Ground to activate this though.
Krakens into green follows Kiora's lead I suppose. It kind of highlights the tension in the color pie between mechanical effects and the flavor of each color - "huge animals" are green but "huge sea animals" are blue just because they live in the water. Interestingly per latest color pie article, +0/+N on creatures is primary white secondary green. Maybe -N/+N? The block trigger is fine I guess.
A more intellectual take on Gorgons I guess? Not sure how far this color bleed can go. I like the attacking trigger for blue, but the return to Thicket Basilisk-style deathtouch with a rider is kind of weird and I don't get the flavor. I see how the abilities work together but most of the time it just means "target creature can't block Spiteful Gorgon", the mechanical synergy doesn't come together very well.
I don't know what's particularly red about pegasi, I guess they live wild and free or something. Massively better than Skynight Legionnaire who was already pretty good. The Orazca-specific mechanic is also weird on a pegasus, as pegasi on Ixalan or ascend on other planes are both hard to swallow.
One of my primary criteria here was "can I see this color bleed playing out on enough cards for at least a set" like the Merfolk and Vampire examples have.
Gibli-Circus Prankster
Creature - Faerie Rogue (Uncommon)
Trick (When this creature enters the battlefield, you may exile a card from your hand face-down.)
Flying
Flip target face-down card you own in exile: Change the target of target spell if it has the same converted mana cost as the flipped card.
1/3
Flavor:
I love it!
Red feels like a natural second color for faeries (and could even provide a cool alternative feel for the UBR Arc if we added black back in as well)
Trick seems like a fun mix of spellshapers an traps which fit well with a faerie feel.
Mechanics:
Flipping a card already has a mechanical meaning from Kamigawa, additionally costs don't target. The cost should probably read: "Turn a face-down card you own in exile face-up:" but then you get into weird cases where you might be able to flip a card that you don't know what the card is (say a card exiled with Gonti or Grimoire Thief)
I would probably have part of the Trick keyword include you being able to view the exiled card (memorization games aren't fun), and maybe add "and may look at" after "own" in the cost, but that gets really wordy.
The ability currently is using wording from swerve, but if it can target a spell with multiple targets it needs to use the wording from redirect.
Ashen Treefolk
Creature - Treefolk {U}
Trample.
Mountain Terrain 2 (As long as you control two or more Mountains, this creature power is equal to its toughness)
1/3
Flavor:
Red Treefolk doesn't do it for me.
what comes to mind for me without an image is the burn husk of a treefolk, and that feels more black than red
Mountain Terrain feels like it should be an ability word rather than a keyword and always have it trigger on two (or three), the design space for a bunch of high toughness creatures that care about mountains is rather low, but if you could grant a whole array of abilities to creatures that cared about mountains then you have some cool flavor (imagine if every battalion card had Boros Elite's ability instead of their own)
Mechanically:
Trample shouldn't have a period after it
see notes above about Mountain Terrain
Yria Thief
Creature - Fox Rogue (U)
Prowess, Skulk (This creature can’t be blocked by creatures with greater power.)
Whenever Yria Thief deal combat damage to a player you may draw a card. Underestimating is the last thing you want.

I'm going to assume the creature type you are exemplifying here is Fox
Flavor:
Aside from being a fox, and... prowess I guess, I don't feel any connection to white.
That being said, I do feel like Kitsune are totally at home in blue, being tricksters and shape-changers, If I were to try to maintain a connection to white with them I would probably give the tribe a strong community aspect, but that feel doesn't come across in this card.
Mechanics:
Keywords with reminder text are typically placed on a separate line.
The relationship between the power, prowess, skulk, and the looting ability is really interesting and makes the player feel clever, which is a good feeling.
Lawmage Defector
Creature - Human Rebel (U)
Whenever Lawmage Defector attacks, exile target creature defending player controls. Return it to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next end step. Some of the most impassioned resisters were those who had seen the injustices of the Chrysaline Court from within.
3/2
Flavor:
Rebels make a lot of sense in red, and the use of temporary exile as a method of detention has precedent.
Mechanics:
checks out
Dwarven Gardener
Creature - Dwarf (U)
Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, if it's the second land you had enter the battlefield this turn, destroy target land.
2/2 Nature makes the best fertilizer
Flavor:
Dwarves are one of the more 'human' races (along with elves, kithkin, ect) and as such are typically averred enough that they are feasible in most colors (though green and blue are probably the furthest departure from typical dwarves)
The concept of using the destroyed land to fertilize the additional land played is a little off, as if you are playing a 2nd land, whatever is enabling the 2nd land is probably already giving you the flavor as to how it is being provided.
Mechanics:
I think this is a little too strong, and very not fun to play against. Along side cards like Azusa or Courser of Kruphix, most players would probably just scoop.
Flameshaper's Double
Creature - Illusion Wizard(U)
Flash
When Flameshaper's Double enters the battlefield, you may copy target instant or sorcery spell with converted mana cost 2 or less. You may choose new targets for the copy. "And I thought one pyromancer was bad."
- Hadrik, Ilawan Guardsman
1/1
I'm assuming illusion is the creature type being focused on.
Flavor:
Red is probably the next most likely color to get illusions (and maybe black?)
I'm kinda sad that you did away with the targeting clause that illusions typically have, it would have tied this to illusions much better, and potentially allowed a bigger body.
Mechanics:
This isn't an uncommon effect. Or rather, all uncommon cards that copy spells, can only target your own spells.
Willows: First of all, the challenge calls for an uncommon, so making it a rare is a bit off and the effect of the card doesn't let it pass as uncommon. I like the idea of replacing counters and divinity is an interesting choice. About the creature type, I do not feel moonfolk was a good idea for the challenge. They are known for doing stuff by returning lands to your hand and I don't see any of it in your design.
Flatline: As with willows, the xhallenge called for an uncommon, but I do think yours fits uncommon rarity. You might have been thinking of Alesha, as this is noticeably similar, but in recent history recurring weenies has been an uncommon abiliry as saw in devoted crop-matetimely hordemate and tethmos high priest
and I feel the attack and exile clauses do balamce it. On the type, Boros goblins have been a thing before, so it's not too exciting as a bleed.
Netn10: Of white and red, I do feel faeries lean more towards the red in terms of philosophy, so everything good. Rarity is fine, sinve the trick ability seems to be destined to ne a central.mechanic that can span amongst all rarities. I really like this.
Cardz5000: I have to dig for the mana cost and the effevt seems fine for the colors. I like here how you adapted the tempo costs assoxiated with moonfolks by coming up with a new ability that ends up preventing this card from becoming annoying and stalling things. The way thr untap works with animated lands might be a side effect but somethinh to keep an eye on.
IcariFa: Growing from other's despair is like a nice addition to the black identity of this efreet. I'm not sure about efreet lore but there are a frw ancient ones (even a black one) and a couple newer ones. Along with djinns they eem to be the enemies of good old king suleiman, so black looks fine. I think the balance is very appropiate for the rarity.
Mahboi: I don@t know, I kinda like it but I see a couple of issues with this. The closest point of comparison I can think of right now is thicket basilisk, an uncommon with a similar ability but in a smaller body and without token generation to adf. Now, creatute have become better in term of effectiveness, but I think you went a bit too far. The built-in vigilance is probably the thing that qorries me the most, as it makes it too annoying to face/, but the token generation, althought favirfully very nice, pushes the rarity too much.
White Gorgon seems odd but white has a home for rhis kind of supernatural stuff.

Lawmage Defector 1RW
Creature - Human Rebel (U)
Whenever Lawmage Defector attacks, exile target creature defending player controls. Return it to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next end step.
Some of the most impassioned resisters were those who had seen the injustices of the Chrysaline Court from within.

Blink's ability is more for blue, so your card would have a better flavor if you had selected this color instead of red. Out of this very synergistic card, taking into account the drawback that could have if your opponent controls some strong ETB creature

The Dr.B
Dwarven Gardener 1RG
Creature - Dwarf (U)
Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, if it's the second land you had enter the battlefield this turn, destroy target land.

I would prefer to increase its rarity, at least to face. This is because you can abuse fechlands or cards that allow you to play multiple lands per turn.

Creature - Dryad {U}
Burnwillow Dryad gets +1/+1 and has trample as long as you control a basic Forest.
Burnwillow Dryad gets +1/+1 and has haste as long as you control a basic Mountain.

Choosing the basic land type as a condition for the bonus, makes it lose a lot of impact. I would prefer to continue using a wild nacatl

Whenever Far-Lash Kraken blocks a creature, draw a card.
U: Far-Lash Kraken gets +0/+1 until end of turn.
"It should have been obvious that the sea wouldn't be enough for Ikamaru's children..." - Kai Mazann
4/3
I do not know if the card was made with the intention of defending or attacking, or if it is defined as a bomb in sealed format, the most likely is to pass it to another player.

Spiteful Gorgon 3UB

The relationship between the power, prowess, skulk, and the looting ability is really interesting and makes the player feel clever, which is a good feeling.
Flavor:
Rebels make a lot of sense in red, and the use of temporary exile as a method of detention has precedent.
Mechanics:
checks out

You might have been thinking of Alesha, as this is noticeably similar, but in recent history recurring weenies has been an uncommon abiliry as saw in devoted crop-mate timely hordemate and tethmos high priest
and I feel the attack and exile clauses do balamce it.

3/2
Blink's ability is more for blue, so your card would have a better flavor if you had selected this color instead of red. Out of this very synergistic card, taking into account the drawback that could have if your opponent controls some strong ETB creature

The Dr.B
Dwarven Gardener 1RG
Creature - Dwarf (U)
Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, if it's the second land you had enter the battlefield this turn, destroy target land.
2/2
Nature makes the best fertilizer
I would prefer to increase its rarity, at least to face. This is because you can abuse fechlands or cards that allow you to play multiple lands per turn.

JimmyGroove
Flameshaper's Double UR
Creature - Illusion Wizard(U)
Flash
When Flameshaper's Double enters the battlefield, you may copy target instant or sorcery spell with converted mana cost 2 or less. You may choose new targets for the copy.
"And I thought one pyromancer was bad."
- Hadrik, Ilawan Guardsman
1/1
Quite useful and versatile for and against control decks, another use that I see is to respond to utilitarian spells (tutors, draw, etc).

RaikouRider
Burnwillow Dryad RG
Creature - Dryad {U}
Burnwillow Dryad gets +1/+1 and has trample as long as you control a basic Forest.
Burnwillow Dryad gets +1/+1 and has haste as long as you control a basic Mountain.
2/1
Choosing the basic land type as a condition for the bonus, makes it lose a lot of impact. I would prefer to continue using a wild nacatl

void_nothing
Far-Lash Kraken 3UG
Creature - Kraken (U)
Reach
Whenever Far-Lash Kraken blocks a creature, draw a card.
U: Far-Lash Kraken gets +0/+1 until end of turn.
"It should have been obvious that the sea wouldn't be enough for Ikamaru's children..." - Kai Mazann
4/3
I do not know if the card was made with the intention of defending or attacking, or if it is defined as a bomb in sealed format, the most likely is to pass it to another player.

FreshMeat
Spiteful Gorgon 3UB
Creature - Gorgon (U)
Whenever Spiteful Gorgon attacks, you may have target creature's base power become 0 until end of turn.
Whenever Spiteful Gorgon becomes blocked by a creature with power 1 or less, destroy that creature at end of combat.
3/4
A headache through the layers, but that does not mean it's fun for veteran players
