The November MCC starts today, and we will need at least three judges, preferably four. Judge signups will remain open until the end of round 1. If you have never judged before, please post a judgment of the sample card using the official rubric. If you have judged before, please just post here to say you're willing.
Assume all challenges have been fulfilled.

Creature - Imp (C)

Imp of the Hollow can't block.
Cowering Imp gets +1/+0 as long as you control a Demon and +2/+0 as long as you control a Demon.
1/1
Design - (X/3) Appeal: Do the different player psychographics (Timmy/Johhny/Spike) have a use for the card? (X/3) Elegance: Is the card easily understandable at a glance? Do all the flavor and mechanics combined as a whole make sense?
Development - (X/3) Viability: How well does the card fit into the color wheel? Does it break or bend the rules of the game? Is it the appropriate rarity? (X/3) Balance: Does the card have a power level appropriate for contemporary constructed/limited environments without breaking them? Does it play well in casual and multiplayer formats? Does it create or fit into a deck/archetype? Does it create an oppressive environment?
Creativity - (X/3) Uniqueness: Has a card like this ever been printed before? Does it use new mechanics, ideas, or design space? Does it combine old ideas in a new way? Overall, does it feel “fresh”? (X/3) Flavor: Does the name seem realistic for a card? Does the flavor text sound professional? Do all the flavor elements synch together to please Vorthos players?
Polish - (X/3) Quality: Points deducted for incorrect spelling, grammar, and templating. (X/2) *Main Challenge: Was the main challenge satisfied? Was it approached in a unique or interesting way? Does the card fit the intent of the challenge? (X/2) Subchallenges: One point awarded per satisfied subchallenge condition.
Total: X/25
*An entry with 0 points here is subject to disqualification.
Design - (2/3) Appeal: Timmy sees a potential 4/1 aggressive flier for 1. He's on board all the way. Johnny and Spike only see a Nightshade Stinger with less relevant typing and only sometimes an upside and are a little more lukewarm. (2.5/3) Elegance: Clean and simple. Half a point for saying Demon twice, even though that's more of a Quality issue.
Development - (2/3) Viability: I already mentioned Nightshade Stinger, so the body's fine and any color can get a situational boost. However, this has absolutely no business being a common. Even uncommon would be pushing it. (1.5/3) Balance: Way too strong for limited. If it was a rare or even an uncommon that would be a different story, but it's way too easy to get a bunch of them and make them huge. Compare to something like Foundry Screecher. Whether this is strong enough to impact constructed largely depends on the power level/CMC of any Demons it runs with. God forbid there's something as cheap as Rakshasa Deathdealer.
Creativity - (1/3) Uniqueness: There's a couple of Ogres from Kamigawa that care about Demons and Scroll of Griselbrand, but that's about it, so you get a little credit there. Other than that, it's basically just a sometimes better Nightshade Stinger (0.5/3) Flavor: I really don't know what the flavor for this is supposed to be. What does The Hollow have to do with getting stronger around Demons? Or if it's supposed to be cowering, why does it get stronger when a Demon shows up instead of running away? A line or two of flavor text could have helped a lot and there was room for it. As is, there's almost nothing.
Polish - (1/3) Quality: Has a different name in the text box (-1). Should Just say +3/+0 as long as you control a Demon (-1). Was one of those was supposed to be a different creature type? Proofreading is your friend. (2/2) *Main Challenge: (2/2) Subchallenges:
As usual, I technically could, but I'd really appreciate someone else showing up. If that doesn't happen, rather than seeing the constest die for lack of judges I'll do it again. Not that I don't like it, it's just my real job (yes, I'm working again until next June) that prevents me from being around as much as I used to be, as you all saw last month too.

Thanks, Leo. We now have assurance that the show will go on. Ideally, of course, someone else will step up, but thanks for being reserve.
If it comes down to bravelion or nothing, I'll judge. Let's let the poor guy take a rest for once.
Edit: Or better yet, let's let the poor guy participate as a competitor for once.
Edit2: For some reason I missed Raptorchan's post before. If he/she is willing to judge, all the better. If you end up needing a fourth judge, let me know.

Thanks to Raptorchan and Flatline for showing up. Given the number of submissions so far and seeing that the deadline is tonight I think three judges will be enough, so neither I nor Flatline should be needed, but if you need a fourth judge for any reason, I'll gladly let Flatline do it. I can guarantee he has already judged before, as I was host when he did, and he did a wonderful job.
Edit: Or better yet, let's let the poor guy participate as a competitor for once.
As a certain someone says... maybe!
I've given no thought whatsoever to what I would submit for round 1 until just now though. Being a player takes up considerably less time than judging, so it's tempting as time is exactly my concern now. We'll see if an idea strikes me before going to bed tonight.

If you'd prefer I judge, that's fine by me. You did volunteer to be a fourth judge, not a third.
Edit: I'm glad to see bravelion chose to participate as a competitor. The lion roars again!

(I have a very big one that I'm working on right now but that's private for now, and I don't know if I will ever actually publish it, and I also have ideas for multiple future ones, including one where I'm going to reprise Jeff.)
Thanks, Leo. We now have assurance that the show will go on. Ideally, of course, someone else will step up, but thanks for being reserve.

Edit: Or better yet, let's let the poor guy participate as a competitor for once.
Edit2: For some reason I missed Raptorchan's post before. If he/she is willing to judge, all the better. If you end up needing a fourth judge, let me know.
As a certain someone says... maybe!
I've given no thought whatsoever to what I would submit for round 1 until just now though. Being a player takes up considerably less time than judging, so it's tempting as time is exactly my concern now. We'll see if an idea strikes me before going to bed tonight.

• The two public custom sets I've been part a part of the design team for:
"Brotherhood of Ormos" - Blog post with all info - set thread - design skeleton / card list || "Extinctia: Homo Evanuit" - Blog post with all info - set thread - card list spreadsheet
• "The Lion's Lair", my article series about MTG and custom card design in particular. Latest article here. Here is the article index. Rather outdated by now, and based on the old MCC rubric, but I'm leaving this here for anybody that might be interested anyway.
• My only public attempt at being a writer: the story of my Leonin custom planeswalker Jeff Lionheart. (I have a very big one that I'm working on right now but that's private for now, and I don't know if I will ever actually publish it, and I also have ideas for multiple future ones, including one where I'm going to reprise Jeff.)
Edit: I'm glad to see bravelion chose to participate as a competitor. The lion roars again!
Indeed, I'm not going to make brackets until tomorrow morning, so... what happens between now and then is all fair game.
