Hello, and welcome to the August MCC signup thread! If you're interesting in judging, please do so by posting in this thread. If you're newer at judging and unsure of your capabilities, you can judge the sample card provided below to test yourself.
Also, please note that this is going to be the first month in which judges will be entered into the Judge Rewards Program. Though I do not have the system fully fleshed out yet, your participation as a judge (or a host, in future months) will grant you raffle 'tickets' with which you have a chance to win marvelous prizes! Now, having said that, let's get to the judging.
Will of the Oversoul1(G/W)(G/W)
Instant [U]
Choose target creature you control. If W was spent to cast Will of the Oversoul, that creature gets +1/+0 and gains indestructible until end of turn. If G was spent to cast Will of the Oversoul, that creature fights target creature you don't control. "You don't want to get on her bad side."
—Gaddock Teeg
Design -
(X/3) Appeal: Do the different player psychographics (Timmy/Johhny/Spike) have a use for the card? (X/3) Elegance: Is the card easily understandable at a glance? Do all the flavor and mechanics combined as a whole make sense?
Development - (X/3) Viability: How well does the card fit into the color wheel? Does it break or bend the rules of the game? Is it the appropriate rarity? (X/3) Balance: Does the card have a power level appropriate for contemporary constructed/limited environments without breaking them? Does it play well in casual and multiplayer formats? Does it create or fit into a deck/archetype? Does it create an oppressive environment?
Creativity - (X/3) Uniqueness: Has a card like this ever been printed before? Does it use new mechanics, ideas, or design space? Does it combine old ideas in a new way? Overall, does it feel “fresh”? (X/3) Flavor: Does the name seem realistic for a card? Does the flavor text sound professional? Do all the flavor elements synch together to please Vorthos players?
Polish - (X/3) Quality: Points deducted for incorrect spelling, grammar, and templating. (X/2) *Main Challenge: Was the main challenge satisfied? Was it approached in a unique or interesting way? Does the card fit the intent of the challenge? (X/2) Subchallenges: One point awarded per satisfied subchallenge condition.
Total: X/25
*An entry with 0 points here is subject to disqualification.
I'll judge. What's the commitment? Looks like a batch once a week-ish from what I've seen, is that standard?
(And for fun, judging the sample)
Design -
(2/3) Appeal: A very Spikey card, but certain Timmies might get a kick out of it. (2/3) Elegance: The split "do X if Y mana was used" cards are always a bit hard to parse.
Development - (3/3) Viability: Fine as far as color philosophy and text go. (1/3) Balance: At least Clear Shot sort of made you work for 2 for 1s (by enabling a trade up or something), but there's not many combats where this isn't just a straight 2 for 1. This'd be a top pick even if it was a 1WG gold card, and it has color flexibility beyond that!
I would 100% make this a sorcery, which would still be strong (Rabid Bite + free attack) but without the utter blowout potential.
Creativity - (2/3) Uniqueness: This feels like a pretty standard "split" color card from Shadowmoor block. But those were cool, flexible and not fully explored. (1/3) Flavor: a. Teeg is a subdued, wise sage that shouldn't really wisecrack. b. The GW kithkin and the Oversouls are on the wrong halves of Lorwyn. The flavor text should be a more subdued praise from a GW elf.
Polish - (2/3) Quality: The last target should not target or be "up to one", and there should be the boilerplate (do both if GW was spent) reminder text. (2/2) *Main Challenge: Sure. (0/2) Subchallenges: Nope.
I wouldn't mind taking a month off, but if you need me I'll keep my strike of judging going. If anybody else wants to step up in my place for once, they are welcome to do so though.

I may as well judge. Don't like these "Make a card. Any card." challenges anyways. So count me in. I even have an informative holder in the thread already!

You're a great judge, but I think you deserve a month off. I'll try to see if I can get someone else to judge this month.
Many thanks. Very appreciated if you can.
