Hey Rith, how do these combat situations work? Is my Absolver Priest still on the battlefield? Second, can he create land cards to use in this battle? This kind of mana disadvantage is hard to overcome. Third, what if Ivan wants to flee? It's kinda looking bleak for him.
I'm trying out something new with this encounter. Yes, your creature is permanent while the encounter proceeds. Also, you have 4 life to spend, or (P/W)(P/W) if you want to use phybrids. I also forgot to include it, but when your round started, you gained W. If you want to run, then you can do that, the shopkeeper is at the door.
As for lands, I've specifically outlawed them until late levels, as it would then be too easy to gain arbitrary large amounts of mana: just design five lands.
Also, I seem to have a shrinking player base. Is anything wrong?
Hey, so, I'm still here, in theory, but I just started work and have much less time for this than I thought. I want to keep it going and should have plenty of time on weekends, but pretty clearly weekly updates is not enough, so I am very serious about finding someone who could do two to four updates during the week for Kardia, and I would be able to help that person a lot while they do it (especially if they use gchat). PM me.
I say yes, because Socrates doesn't reliably post anymore. He's got his reasons, of course, but having 3 games with a 4th stopping and going seems fair. We do need to try and keep things from getting too out of hand, though, because if we have 7 MMOCCCRPGs floating around, not one of them would be original
However, we already have two games of fantastic world structure and exotic terrain and one of classic fantasy. I would like a scifi world, myself. Spaceships and laser beams and fortresses, like Maginon, kind of.
Destent is actually meant to be halfway between Maginon and Kardia. Classic fantasy, in most respects, but multiple planets (dubbed 'spheres') with ways of traveling between them.
I do like ze way you think. I was considering sci-fi, but I do want to formulate a game around what players would enjoy as that is why one GMs methinks.
Yeah, in this instance I am a player, and am voting for a scifi world.
I try and get players to enjoy themselves as well, but I also try not to just give a player exactly what they want either. I enjoy seeing how people react given an unusual circumstance, a situation they did not expect to be in, or finding something to be more difficult than they had assumed it would be. Perhaps it's evil of me, but it's never just a simple dungeon crawl when I GM.
If I were to do scifi it would be a single galaxy setting. There would be a single inter-galactic form of government which would be strong on some worlds and weak on others.
Artifacts would also be fairly prevalent, and I may even wish to include a method for more permanent permanents that are just way hard to get.
Races would be expected to be more scifi oriented, while I wouldn't mind some Orcs n jazz I would be kinda sad if players didn't take the opportunity to branch from MtG cannon. Speaking of Cannons I wouldn't care if players brought races in from other scifi genres.
My two favorite sci-fi (ish) genres are Star Wars and H.P. Lovecraft. So expect conceptual inspiration from those fields.
I'm almost done putting all my thoughts and ideas down into a game outline to be looked over. Once I'm done and fairly confident that the game feels like I would like it to feel I would be open to having an assistant GM. If anyone would like to give me a hand just ask. Also I plan on sending the setup to Rith to look over before posting it, but if anyone else would like to look it over shoot me a pm
I'm just worried about over complicating things. I've alreaded added profs and specs (Which will mater more trust me kekeke) I don't want it to be too much for newbs.
Hypothetical life total rule. At level one each char has a total of 5life. Each level after 1 increases life total by 1. In combat you take damage equal to damage minus toughness. At 3 life or if you take more than 5 damage at once you are injured. Nature of injury related to how you got it, I.e.shot in leg means waking is not a rosy prospect. At 2 life you are unconscious. At 0 you are dead, please see character creation form. Spells/effects that gain life are temporary. Only permanent method to gain life back is rest at a medical center
Honestly? Keep doin' what you're doin'. You've gone through the trouble of putting together and running an RPG, the only thing I need is timely posts (which you've been great about so far), and even then I think we all understand that real life stuff comes first. You also seem to be making tiny improvements as you go along (like learning how much guidance to give players during each post), which is what every GM should do and is the best way to learn anything.
I think the best thing would be to make a blanket statement that feedback is welcome at any time, and when something comes up that necessitates comment, it will make its way to you. Other than that, many thanks for the game!
Another hypothetical life system! Each player is naturally at s neutral life total (0). If they take some damage they are injured and will be treated as thus impaired (-1 or -2) if they take a lot of damage or just more while injured they are incapacitated (-3 or -4). If they keep taking damage or take shotgun to the face level damage they die (-5). Now all damage you take is mitigated by your toughness obv.
Conversely when you gain life you are more able to accomplish physical tasks. At +1 or +2 you're invigorated and not likely to tire, at +2 or +3 your adrenaline is pumping and you can do things you normally wouldn't. At +5 you are in complete synch with your body, we're takin mom lifting car to save a baby type level. Life gain will be tempered by mod judgement (a spell that reads gain five life won't put you into super mode immediately, I will have to gauge situation on a car by case basis to prevent abuse). Key here is life gain is temporary whereas damage beyonda couple points requires medical assistance

I doubt it. These types of games usually have people come and go and sometimes come back.

Especially considering lots of folks are busy playing actual Magic with the shiny new cards.
Us'ns on a budget, though? Set releases can't hold a candle to role-playing
EDIT: Update here. Mexus is suspended until Friday morning for academic reasons, apologies for the missgivings and stay tight
Is there room for a third(maybe 4th if Soc comes back) MMORPCCG in these parts? If so, what type of setting (general) would be ze most interesting?

How do you people believe that life loss should be handled?
The two concets I have seen/thought out are as follows.
A: Your toughness is your life total. If you take damage > your toughness you ded!
B: You have an abstract life total and your toughness is a buffer. Toughness of 1 means a 5/5 attacking you does 4 damage to your life total.
A: Seems a bit harsh, it makes paying even a little life for a spell impossible at first (even if it would be flavorful for a blood ritual etc).
B: Seems way to complicated/lieneint. If you're a 1/1, don't pick a fight with a 5/5 cuz he's gonna kill you.
