Flatline gave me some critique and said that the creatures dealing damage to their owners on my removal spell is an upside. I thought it would be a downside, which is why I made my card cheaper. How is it an upside? (Not that I don't believe Flatline, I'm just wondering how that works)
Because if you cast a mass removal spell odds-on your opponents will have way more and more powerful creatures. Therefore the spell will twice-over hurt them way more than you. If you, the spell's controller, took damage equal to the power of every exiled creature it might be more acceptable.
That makes sense! Of course, that's the way those spells are used in game. Thanks!
Sure, it's technically a downside that your card needs to be played in the right deck at the right time, but the same thing can be said about Damnation, which Wizards now considers too powerful for Standard. If you play your card in the right deck (control or combo), the damage is pure upside because it is effecting your opponent much more than it is you. Let's say you're running your card in something like 8 Rack (which typically runs 0 creatures), and you come up against something like Hollow One. Hollow One can easily have 13 power on the board by turn 3 (a couple of Hollow Ones and a Gurmag Angler), so if you cast your card on turn three, you will exile all three of their creatures and deal your opponent 13 damage! With zero downside! If they also happen to have a Flamewake Phoenix or two out, you get the added bonus of exiling them to boot. Hopefully what I'm saying here makes sense. I will say, the card we are talking about did get two votes that day, so maybe I'm the one that's missing something. If that is the case, it would be sweet if someone could show me what I'm missing.
BTW, I'm glad you posted about this in the discussion thread. I'm always hesitant to offer unsolicited critiques, since I'm never sure how they'll be taken. I'm happy to see you took it as I meant it, as a friendly attempt to help.
Edit: Your card could potentially be printed if the second line read, "Each creature exiled this way deals damage equal to its power to you." That might still be too powerful at 2 CMC though. But then it would be more in-line with Toxic Deluge, which Wizards was only willing to print in a Commander deck.

You didn't miss anything, Flats. People sometimes vote for designs regardless of their development status, as it were; everyone has the right to vote for a cool but broken card. I never personally intentionally do this, but still. I might have voted for the card if it cost 3RWB.
Ah man. Maybe it's just because I've been playing Dredge again lately in Modern, but I really liked my little crab. I think I'd try him over the Thug or the Shriekhorn.

Congrats to netn10 and chochky. It seems like a bit of a hollow victory considering chochky disappeared with like 5 or 6 days left in the month, but I'll take it. Thanks chochky.

Yea, kind of awkward result because Chochky dissapeared in such a way that most likely stopped them from winning, and it ended up being a three way tie. On top of it, we have the new month started with someone who didn't vote and someone who voted but didn't submit a card. Nonetheless I'm sort of amused by the result being as it is. The three way tie is a cool chance thing.
No reason to see the result as anything less than legitimate, imo. All of the winners clearly gave their all in all the days in which they were able, and that's what the DCC's all about.
Plus, I don't think there's ever been a 3-way tie before?
I don't recall ever seeing a 3-way tie before. I'm way into ties. I like to win, but I hate to see others lose.

Apparently, last night, I was so disoriented I set up the DCC thread but shut down my computer without posting it. I'll put it up shortly but today will obviously be an abbreviated day.
I think I'm going to end Wednesday's DCC several hours early (about 6PM Eastern) because the alternative is the thread not going up until the following morning. If someone else wants to post the thread at the normal hour, however, please give me a shout and I'll be very grateful.
If you're talking about the thread that goes up tonight, I can do it. If you're talking about the thread that goes up tomorrow night, I'm sure I'll forget by then. Let me know.

First time on prohibition. If I'm not allowed to post cards, let me know.
So what probation means is, after you've voted improperly, the next time you vote improperly, you'll have your card disallowed for the next day. You're always still allowed to post cards and as long as you vote right, you'll face no material consequence.

I'm forum!
Thanks Rudyard. I thought that was the case, but I wasn't positive. It still might be safer to keep my original wording, but I'm going to change it. It's much more satisfying that way.

Modular Guardian's power and toughness are each equal to the number of different creature types among permanents you control. "I'll slap you with the humiliating side of my hand, I just need to choose which of my eight arms is the most fitting."

While I love the idea behind this card, the existence of changeling makes something like this very difficult to print (it attacks as a 238/238 on turn 3 with one changeling out). I've been trying to come up with a good diversity mechanic for a custom set of mine for a while now, but stupid changeling makes my all of my favorite ideas untenable. It's a real pain.

Even without changeling interaction, can GU get watchwolf with an upside?
It's not nearly the same, but "equal to the number of unique creature type combinations among creatures you control" might do something for that space, but largely just functions as a more limited version of "number of creatures you control"
Even without changeling interaction, can GU get watchwolf with an upside?
I thought this too but, as a rule of thumb, I try not to comment on cards prior to voting if I can help it. The only reason I broke that rule today is because the problem with this card is very near and dear to my heart.
"number of creature types among creatures you control that don't share a creature type with this" de-changeling-problems you
Honestly, changeling isn't the only problem I have with the set mechanic I'm referring to. I also have a problem with the fact that MTG doesn't differentiate between race and class. But that's a discussion for another thread, and your suggested wording does solve netn10's issue.
