Isn't this just Counterspell with a shuffle? No existing UR cards come close to this.
Yes thats kind of exactly the point.
*snip*
When I posted the exact same effect as an ETB on a rare 1UR 2/2 creature with flash last week, lots of people loved it and it got like 8 or 9 votes. To my surprise, no one seemed to complain that it's technically more powerful than Mystic Snake with a CMC of 3. Not sure why it's suddenly a no-no once I just make it an instant as a watered down Counterspell.

Because 1 is everything.
I suppose so, but I figured that 1 factored in more for the fact that you're also getting a 2/2 creature in the case of Chaotic Apprentice. Either way, I wasn't entirely certain how Arcane Vortex would be received in light of 2 mana counterspells being OP by current standards, but I put it out there because of how surprised I was at how well Chaotic Apprentice did.
(Note to self: Do NOT create cards while suffering from a head cold.)
My entry from yesterday is all wrong, so very wrong. Shamefully wrong, even!
The intent was that you could cast it at sorcery speed as a 3/3 flyer, or at instant speed as a 2/2 flyer. Obviously, that was not properly conveyed at all.
For the record, I am not creating a card today. To be honest, I should not have created a card yesterday while under the influence of cough medicine, either.
Last month started off well enough, but it dropped off greatly a week or so in. Was it something I did? Perhaps I should start posting in all caps? Either way, I hope this keeps up next month when I'm hosting/playing.

Hello fine people of the DCC. I am going to NYC to see the wild card game tonight (Let's go Mets!). I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get the thread up tonight (the thread for 10/6). My hope is that I will be able to, but if someone else wants to do it tonight around 10 or 11 PM EDT that would be great. I already PMed Indighost, but I haven't heard back from him. Anyway, hopefully I can still post the thread tonight, but I don't want to leave everyone high and dry if I can't.
Edit: I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get the thread up after all, but it'll probably be late. If anybody gets to it before me (but after 10 PM EDT), feel free to post it.

How does this card-making game work? It's simple! Whenever your card receives a vote in the day's poll, you receive [1] point for the month. If your card ends up with the most votes for that day, you will receive [2] additional points for the month. In the event of a tie, each person who tied receives [1] additional point. At the end of each month, the person with the most points on the scoreboard wins that month, then the scoreboard is cleared for the next month. You can participate in as many or as few days as you want in any month.
Rules
Each day you may post any card you want. On the next day all of the posted cards will be put into a poll the thread as long as your card didn't get disqualified - see the next point for more details. If you post more than one card in a DCC thread, only the first card you post will be taken.
When you vote, you need to make exactly two votes for two different people. Vote for the cards that are listed in the first post, not other cards being posted in the thread. If you notice that you've only voted for one person, include your second vote in a post, even if you're not submitting a card.
If you want to change your vote for any reason, post that change in the day's thread (you can include it with your card if you want). Changed votes in the discussion thread will be ignored.
Voting for only one person, for three or more people, or for yourself will earn you an asterisk by your name in the monthly leaderboard. So will failing to vote if you've posted a card. (We're not going to do anything about people who don't vote or post cards; that would be kind of silly.) This indicates that you're on probation for the next 21 days. If you're on probation and you make another improper vote, your card will be disqualified. Repeated disqualification is grounds for warnings and/or infractions for not following the game rules, so please don't do it.
Voting for everything in the poll will be grounds for a lifetime ban from the DCC. Don't do it. It just wastes the thread creators' time.
If you wish to post a render, please use the hyperlink option when posting your card and make the card name the image link. Renders are usually large enough to clog up the list, so submit a text-formed card and (optionally) a link in the name to the render.
This thread is just for your card submission. Take your questions/comments to our discussion thread. If it's a question, comment, or complaint about probation, PM me instead and I'll explain it.
There is a rule against it. I made the section stating the rule bold and red for your convenience.
I never noticed that. If that's the case, maybe it's because it's just taken for granted that voting for yourself in any contest is a no-no.
That's not entirely true. Voting for yourself in the final CCL poll is allowed, but it makes a lot more sense there than it does in the DCC.

Am I missing something here or is this nothing more than Thatcher Revolt for R? Yet it's getting votes...
I know there's many thousands of extant designs and very few individuals know them all (I don't), but it's still a bit irksome (for me) to see a "design" getting votes when it's just an existing card with 2 knocked off of the mana cost.
Dang it! I totally forgot about Thatcher Revolt! When I made it I thought I was playing off of Spark Elemental. Still, I do like my version much better. I like the flavor, and it's obviously more powerful at 1 CMC at UC (although not having it in a well supported tribe like Goblins or even Humans tones it down a bit). That said, if any of the people that voted for it also forgot about Thatcher Revolt, and want to take change their vote, I won't hold it against them.

HM: BrainPo, But don't you think that card is bonkers overpowered for one blue?
I can sort of understand that, but using Portent and Ponder as my reference point I don't think it's that bad. Casting it regularly only does the basic jist of what Portent does, without the delayed card draw or the option to shuffle, but you can draw a card for an extra 2. Compared to ponder, it has the benefit of being able to use it against an opponent, but it also doesn't have the option to shuffle and you're going to have to pay an extra 2 to draw a card.

All that said, mechanical creativity is what I generally give the most weight to, so getting 3 votes for Hellfire Ants isn't exactly my proudest moment.
