Well this is my first entry into the DCC, wish me luck!
my first entry is Nightdread Demon which I think fits together very well in both flavor and mechanics.
I like it. The condition isn't trivial nor too hard to obtain, and has some mildly interesting play/counterplay to it.
Darkwood Marsh
Land (R)
~ enters the battlefield tapped. T: Add B or G to your mana pool. 1BG: Exile target creature card from a graveyard. ~ becomes a copy of that card until end of turn, except it's still a land.
Ok, I've got a quick way to make it interesting. Roll the color theme die! Then you have to abide by your result for seven days unless you totally wuss out.
1: White
2: Green
3: Red
4: Black
5: Blue
6: Multicolor or zero colors.

NOTE: I think the "choose each one that's true" variation for the modal spells is cool (it makes modal spells even more versatile, increasing the possible scenarios they could lead to) Even so, I think this is somehow unproper for uncommon (specially because it ended being too wordy :-/)
July 28th:
Soulbite :1mana::symb:
Sorcery C
Target opponent loses 3 life. Then, if that player has 10 or less life, he or she reveals his or her hand and you choose a nonland card from it. That player discards that card.
Flashback :6mana::symb: "The deeper the bite, the deeper your reach."

Voidmage Silencer :2mana::symw::symu:
Creature — Human Wizard R

NOTE: I feel this one was misunderstood. Well, I guess we always end up with a "different" kid wich need to be extra protected I love this one.
July 31st:
Welding Assistant
Artifact Creature — Construct R
: Add to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to cast artifact spells or activate abilities.
:2mana:: Switch Welding Assistant's power and toughness until end of turn. Welding Assistant gains first strike until end of turn. Its blowtorch happens to be great for both, making and unmaking.
—Slobad, goblin tinkerer
1/4
Note: Dang! Another misunderstood one...
August 1st:
Bittersweet Harvest :symgb::symgb::symgb::symgb:
Sorcery R
Creatures your opponents control get -1/-1 until end of turn for each spent to cast Bittersweet Harvest.
Creatures you control get +1/+1 until end of turn for each spent to cast Bittersweet Harvest. "The sweet nectar of life and the bitter pill of death, two different ways of calling the feast of existence."
—Morvath, golgari druid
NOTE: This one seems to be a little tricky. It raises a lot of love around, but perhaps it would show it does too much after an intensive testing. Still being an interesting concept, IMO (hybrid mana, conditional effects attached to the way the cost was paid.)
I hope you liked my cards and hope you like the ones I'll throw in August as well!
Ugh, running into a problem here: no Internet at home other than phone.
Someone needs to post today's thread for me; I'll send in the Top 8 and update the cumulative scores either later today or sometime tomorrow.
(I'd like to remind whoever posts today's thread that normally I put the final standings for a month in a spoiler just to make the post not take forever to scroll through.)
aftermarketradio's card today is, um, broken? The card is Flash but with tutor strapped to it?
I was wondering if the power level would be too high when I made it, so I tested a few casting costs and scenarios in my head before settling on the final. But after looking at the Hulk Flash deck of old, I couldn't think of a way in Standard that my card could be used in such a degenerate fashion. It's like a solid combo piece with the right board state, and certainly a build-around card, but I must be missing the broken interactions.
Here's a question: When you design a card for DCC, how broad should your thinking be for format consideration? I tend to focus mainly on Standard and Limited environments, similar to how WOTC designs. Older formats have a much higher chance for broken interactions, but they also have much better options for combo disruption, so it's kind of a wash.
Hmm, the most similar use you could give to your card in standard would be with Trostani's Summoner, wich would be as much degenerated, considering the slowness of the format.
EDIT: Anyway, being able to bring the Flash deck to Modern, and being also capable of comboing in turn 2 with this is the bigest problem (they killed an entire format -extended- and conceived modern to be a healty format, wich a card such like this would completely spoil.)
I just thought of it as the black natural order or a cute nod to kamigawa reanimation spells, but that it found them instead of unburrying them and it felt like entomb + or a combo piece than anything.
The card clearly seems like it was made for abuse but so do a million cards here, I voted for it based on cuteness. What's the biggest splash you can make with this card? Something game ending in legacy? This might be a more fair Standard card at 4cc and with a flashback (maybe involving sacrificing a guy?). Pushing comes into play abilities had had some consequences on design it seems. I wish wizards would just let us have nice spells back.
It reminded me a bit of Sneak Attack, honestly, it's just the matter of it tutoring for whatever creature being the problem and reason why I didn't vote for it. There's a decent amount of creatures out there that make hefty footprints upon entry, even in our current Standard, things like a three mana Tusk are pretty game shifting.
As for me, I think I tend to string more towards Standard usage, but I also like to look to things a few sets back for some breath—even though that sometimes just means trying to rework something for Type 2 play.

Turn 1: Overgrown Tomb, Mystic Elf
Turn 2: Despotic Edict = boardstate: a 1/1, a 2/2, a 3/3 and a 4/4. Go.
That seems like an amazing opening, and I admit I didn't consider that. Honestly, I kinda miss the days when you could combo out like that. The thrill of betting your whole game on your opponent not having a shock, negate, or tragic slip is lost on this current metagame.
Internet situation won't be fixed until at least noon - but I'll be at work at that point.
So, once again I need someone else to post the thread today. I'll get stuff caught up this afternoon after work (assuming I have Internet at that point).
iDreamheart hydra is a mythic rare from a set I'm working on, hope you enjoy it.
Is their any particular rules about cards having to be newly designed for the competition (which is what I plan to do most days) or is posting any card we have made considered ok?
Seems nobody liked my dragon
Was it a power level thing or just not interesting enough?
Anyway hope you guys like my card for today.
@Boulder Throw - Would probably cost it at 1RR or 3R but then again I hate land destruction with a passion (cheap land destruction anyway)
Otherwise it fits the giant tribal really well and has a good flexible use.
Yes, I know, I know... Parallectric Regression is so OP that Tarmogoyf peed itself. I made it in a rush and the question then was "is it ok at cmc4, or should I cost it 5?"

It's not, it's just very Generic Hole-Filling Chinese Menu Design.
It's not, it's just very Generic Hole-Filling Chinese Menu Design.
Ha ha, "chinese menu design"... You made my day!
@Icarael MMM: "plans" definitely makes a good word to work a concept around it. Go for it! (perhaps, I'll implement it on a design along the week as well ;))
my first entry is Nightdread Demon which I think fits together very well in both flavor and mechanics.

"Nice babbling. I'm not interested in it at this time."

July 30th:
Miser's Den
Land R
: Add to your mana pool.
As long as Miser's Den is untapped, whenever a triggered ability from a permanent you control triggers during an opponent's turn, counter it.
"His third wish was for locking in his most precious belongings. Humans keep ignoring both, what's truly important in their brief existence and how to make a wish."
—Mahamoti Djinn
NOTE: I feel this one was misunderstood. Well, I guess we always end up with a "different" kid wich need to be extra protected I love this one.
July 31st:
Welding Assistant
Artifact Creature — Construct R
: Add to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to cast artifact spells or activate abilities.
:2mana:: Switch Welding Assistant's power and toughness until end of turn. Welding Assistant gains first strike until end of turn.
Its blowtorch happens to be great for both, making and unmaking.
—Slobad, goblin tinkerer

Note: Dang! Another misunderstood one...
August 1st:
Bittersweet Harvest :symgb::symgb::symgb::symgb:
Someone needs to post today's thread for me; I'll send in the Top 8 and update the cumulative scores either later today or sometime tomorrow.
(I'd like to remind whoever posts today's thread that normally I put the final standings for a month in a spoiler just to make the post not take forever to scroll through.)
(Probably NSFW) So you may have heard I'm trying to write a TV series...

Memento Mori, if the nineth lion ate the sun.
EDIT: Anyway, being able to bring the Flash deck to Modern, and being also capable of comboing in turn 2 with this is the bigest problem (they killed an entire format -extended- and conceived modern to be a healty format, wich a card such like this would completely spoil.)
Cube talk, design community and much much more!
Memento Mori, if the nineth lion ate the sun.
So, once again I need someone else to post the thread today. I'll get stuff caught up this afternoon after work (assuming I have Internet at that point).

Is their any particular rules about cards having to be newly designed for the competition (which is what I plan to do most days) or is posting any card we have made considered ok?

Was it a power level thing or just not interesting enough?
Anyway hope you guys like my card for today.
@Boulder Throw - Would probably cost it at 1RR or 3R but then again I hate land destruction with a passion (cheap land destruction anyway)
Otherwise it fits the giant tribal really well and has a good flexible use.

IcaraelMMM: "plans" definitely makes a good word to work a concept around it. Go for it! (perhaps, I'll implement it on a design along the week as well ;))
