OK, I think I'm finally done. I just got a chance to go over the source material again for quite a while, and I have changed my cards significantly. Thanks again for the extension void_nothing, and thank you to bravelion for being the cool dude that he is. This has been an an awesome challenge. I really do hope people take the time to take a look at source material for the cards. It's actually a lot of fun.

Creature — Rogue Advisor (R)
Flash
If an opponent would become the monarch, instead, each player secretly votes for one of his or her opponents, then all players reveal their votes. If there is not a tie, the player with the most votes becomes the monarch. (A tied vote has no effect.) "The king is dead, long live the kings!"
1/3
Kinda interesting and sort of political, but how will it work? Every player will vote for itself because you ARE the opponent of that player who failed to become the monarch, so that player will choose who it actually will be. I prefer this over Prince of Sewers only because it feels a bit more political.
Each player votes for one of his or her opponents, not that player's opponents. No player can vote for themselves. They have to vote for one of their own opponents. In hindsight, this could've been less ambiguously-worded.
Design a plane card or a card that cares about planes or planeswalking.
'Care about' means just rolling a planar die wouldn't cut it for the challenge? The card has to benefit you for rolling it or being on a plane?

Why can't it be enchantments? That sounds like an unnecessary restriction. I like how you can use it to blink cards, but also is a way to remove cards forever. Fun. But kinda disconnected from the rest of the card. Shouldn't this have granted more flying? Guess that would have been weird. But a connection would have been nice.
Heh, yeah, the Skybind effect was a holdover from when I was designing an entry from Theros. I liked this effect, and picked Serra's Realm specifically so it could be left in. (See: Serra's Sanctum.)

I guess restricting cards to interact with nonenchantments technicially ups the number of times 'enchantment' appears on cards and makes the as-fan of the word enchantment higher? :B Not sure if that's what you'd want as a designer tho.
Congrats bravelion for winning May! I was seriously considering to vote for Flatline after my inniatial mistake with one of the cards, but left it as is, because your cards struck me as super solid designs. So, Flatline, you may take comfort in knowing that it was a very close finals!

With the lead changes and nail-biting ties, this finals reminded me of my own duel with Icarii much earlier in the year in which he ultimately prevailed after, I think, about two weeks. Definitely some of the best designs I've seen in the finals in a while - honor should be very satisfied for you both.
Thanks everyone for the congratulations. I didn't expect to win the MCC and the CCL in back to back months. It was an awesome final, both in the sense of the challenge and the competition from Flatline, who is just one of my favorite designers around here, so the appreciation goes both ways. I think we both strived to make our best designs and I think it showed. I will share my thought process for my submissions but I don't have the time to do it now. Expect a rather long post about it later tonight.

I am in no way disheartened to lose to an excellent designer like bravelion. I hope I didn't offend anybody by replying to people's judgments of my cards. I normally try not to comment on my designs while voting is going on, but in the case of doomfish, it was clear that he had misread my card, which I just could not help but mention. I have no such legitimate excuse for my replies to kjsharp's judgments. I have recently had quite a few of discussions with him about other designs (which I have really enjoyed), so I guess I just wanted to have another. Anyway, congrats again to bravelion. At least I didn't get blown out in the finals like I did a couple of months ago against doomfish.

No problem, Flatline. I followed those discussions closely behind the shadows and I would have definitely intervened if I thought they were influencing the outcome. I chose to wait until after the poll deadline to explain my submission (I still have to, I think I'll do it after I'm done with my bracket for the June MCC), but that's just my own choice and in no way meant to refrain you from answering people's opinions about your cards. All is fine! Also, thank you for the congratulations!

I was intending to provide feedback and offer my impressions, not really to critique and judge. The finals seems more like a celebration intended to delight. It might not feel that way to the two finalists, but I think most of us liked both of your card designs as a collective whole. I hope y'all had a fun and rewarding experience designing those cards.

It's 14th already but only 6 of 14 players posted their critiques for Round 1 yet. (for example, I received only 1 of 6 possible critiques).
Man, this sucks.
People seem to be in the mindset of "well, I'll just enter now and see how I feel about actually commenting on cards later".

Well, it is early in the morning on the 14th in the eastern US, and the challenge doesn't end until a minute before midnight on the 15th. I hope this means that most people intend to get their critiques in at the very end of the schedule, but if there continues to be a severe dearth of critiques or people don't at least post top 3s, I'll have to take drastic measures.
Last month was infinitely better than the previous month. More people provided feedback, and I think people were generally more positive and encouraging about others' cards. Hopefully this month we won't slide back into visible apathy. There were lots of interesting and thought-provoking cards created this go-around.

A fair number of people have critiqued now, as several more contestants have added crits and top 3s for both rounds throughout the day today. I highly encourage everyone else who has not yet done so to put in your crits and scorings as quickly as possible, as the deadline is approaching quite fast. You only have about 30 hours left.

Congrats bravelion for winning May! I was seriously considering to vote for Flatline after my inniatial mistake with one of the cards, but left it as is, because your cards struck me as super solid designs. So, Flatline, you may take comfort in knowing that it was a very close finals!

• The two public custom sets I've been part a part of the design team for:
"Brotherhood of Ormos" - Blog post with all info - set thread - design skeleton / card list || "Extinctia: Homo Evanuit" - Blog post with all info - set thread - card list spreadsheet
• "The Lion's Lair", my article series about MTG and custom card design in particular. Latest article here. Here is the article index. Rather outdated by now, and based on the old MCC rubric, but I'm leaving this here for anybody that might be interested anyway.
• My only public attempt at being a writer: the story of my Leonin custom planeswalker Jeff Lionheart. (I have a very big one that I'm working on right now but that's private for now, and I don't know if I will ever actually publish it, and I also have ideas for multiple future ones, including one where I'm going to reprise Jeff.)
