In regards to the August CCL: For the first time, I've found myself just plain unable to come up with a good entry to fit the theme. My sorrow is great.
Are we allowed to bring back a mechanic but change it's name to fit the block or whatnot? (Specifically, an ability they said would only come back with a new name)
In the list, NVRBLND is written twice among the six people below me. I suppose it's just a mistake, right? Given what you wrote in your post using NVRBLND himself as an example, I suppose the line right below me is the wrong one, is it? And in that case, I should critique Mix Master Mikaeus too, right?

Sorry for not putting my judgings in spoilers: No matter what I did, including using the in-post spoiler button, the spoilers kept not actually working.
I always really liked Glissa as a character, and I hated the bad rap she got in Scars. So my entry for this round is a tribute to what could have - nay, should have been.
See as not all the judgements are up, how do we know who advanced? I put a holder on the thread and am designing a card, but shouldn't there be a list of contestants?
I'd like to point out to everyone submitting to this round (and I initially forgot this myself) that Mirrodin Pure is still part of the Scars block, and Wizards doesn't use +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters in the same block.
Not trying to poop on anyone's design here, just something everyone should keep in mind.

Shadowmoor begs to differ. If Mirrodin Pure will be drafted seperately, there should be no issue, and unless the requirement specifically called for -1/-1 counters, what you say is simply not true

Thanks for this reminder GG Crono, I didn't think about the fact that the cards are still meant to be part of SOM block. While it's not stated if the hypothetical Mirrodin Pure is meant to be drafted separately for the purpose of this round, in my mind I'm assuming it's not so and that it would still be drafted as the third set of the block.
I'll have to come up with something different, good thing I still have a couple of days before the deadline.

Shadowmoor wasn't played in the same limited environment as Lorwyn. Mirrodin Pure would presumably be a small set, same as New Phyrexia is, and thus drafted together with Scars and Besieged.
I'd also like to point out, while I'd need to find the article, MaRo pointed out they specifically didn't use Mirran +1/+1 counters due to the other counters in the set, so it seems unlikely it would be reversed for Mirrodin Pure, though if you think it would be good in it, go ahead and use 'em.
Challenge: Design two cards. First, a hybrid card with one of Lorwyn or Mornigtide's mechanics. Second, create a tribal-themed card or lord for a creature type that only appeared in Shadowmoor or Morningtide (e.g. hag, noggle, troll, etc.)
(emphasis in the quote is mine)
For the second card, do you mean a creature type that appears in Shadowmoor or Eventide? I guess it's not Morningtide, since tribal cards would be perfectly at home there, so where would the crossing be?
Also "only" appeared in Shadowmoor or Eventide means obviously that the chosen creature type can't have appeared in Lorwyn/Morningtide, but could it have appeared in other blocks outside of Lorwyn/Shadowmoor? For example, may I choose Dwarves? They appeared in Eventide, did not appear in Lorwyn/Morningtide, but they did appear in other older sets, so they are not specific to the world of Shadowmoor.
Sorry for all the questions but I think it's better to ask first rather than being sorry later.

Quick ruling question here: A creature isn't actually considered "regenerated" unless something would kill it, right? So Leatherback Chieftan couldn't just be used as a Battlegrowth on a stick?
Quick ruling question here: A creature isn't actually considered "regenerated" unless something would kill it, right? So Leatherback Chieftan couldn't just be used as a Battlegrowth on a stick?
I'm not a judge, but I think you're right. Check this out:
Quote from Comprehensive Rules »
701.12c Neither activating an ability that creates a regeneration shield nor casting a spell that creates a regeneration shield is the same as regenerating a permanent. Effects that say that a permanent can’t be regenerated don’t prevent such abilities from being activated or such spells from being cast; rather, they prevent regeneration shields from having any effect.
So there are indeed two distinct events: first, you create the regeneration shield as the regenerate ability resolves, but this doesn't count as the creature "regenerating". Then, long after that, when the creature would actually be destroyed, the shield is used and that is what counts as the creature "regenerating".
Also, consider the first ruling on Debt of Loyalty (you can see it in Gatherer):
Quote from Gatherer »
Casting Debt of Loyalty puts a regeneration shield on a creature. If, later in the turn, that creature would be destroyed, instead it regenerates and you gain control of it. Note that it will be tapped when you gain control of it. The control change has no duration; you'll retain control of that creature until the game ends or until some other effect causes it to change control.
Note the underlined part, and note how it makes very clear that the creature regenerates when the shield is used, not when it's created.
Other cards you can check out include Matopi Golem, Soldevi Sentry and Skeleton Scavengers (look at the Oracle wording for all those cards, not their printed wording). Pay attention to the wording of those cards: the delayed triggered ability triggers "When CARDNAME regenerates this way". So you could say this:
Whenever a Troll creature you control regenerates, put a +1/+1 counter on it. 3: Regenerate target Troll. (or "target Troll creature" if you want to specify)
and the functionality should be what you intended: I can pay 3 to create the regeneration shield but I don't put the counter on yet. Then, if and when the shield is actually used, the Troll regenerates and that's when I put the counter on it. I don't know if that is intuitive, but one could argue that it's regeneration as an ability to be not that intuitive... even though, in my opinion, once you understand how it actually works it's perfectly fine.
Hope this helps.

I, in fact, do not want to specify. Compare Mad Auntie. There's things besides creatures you might want to regenerate in an environment with Lorwyn-like mechanics.

In any case, thank you very much.
You're welcome! I just returned the favor you did to me when you reminded us about the +1/+1 counters on Mirrodin.

I don't know if that is intuitive, but one could argue that it's regeneration as an ability to be not that intuitive... even though, in my opinion, once you understand how it actually works it's perfectly fine.
Hope this helps.

• The two public custom sets I've been part a part of the design team for:
"Brotherhood of Ormos" - Blog post with all info - set thread - design skeleton / card list || "Extinctia: Homo Evanuit" - Blog post with all info - set thread - card list spreadsheet
• "The Lion's Lair", my article series about MTG and custom card design in particular. Latest article here. Here is the article index. Rather outdated by now, and based on the old MCC rubric, but I'm leaving this here for anybody that might be interested anyway.
• My only public attempt at being a writer: the story of my Leonin custom planeswalker Jeff Lionheart. (I have a very big one that I'm working on right now but that's private for now, and I don't know if I will ever actually publish it, and I also have ideas for multiple future ones, including one where I'm going to reprise Jeff.)
In any case, thank you very much.
You're welcome! I just returned the favor you did to me when you reminded us about the +1/+1 counters on Mirrodin.
