Whoops that was in the wrong thread and I only realized the next day.
Relevant: I think I was the last one to finish crits, but they're up. Bless our work servers for being down half the day and giving us a whole lot of nothing to do!
I kinda wonder if I am the only one who saw the final round for March go up. I don't mind winning by default, but is there a reason no one else even posted a holder?
Look forward to seeing the final entries for the March CCL
Looking back I probably made some of the earlier challenges a little too difficult.
I hope everyone has found the challenges streching you in a slightly different direction.
Once again apologoies for some of the inconsistent thread times due to real life getting in the way.
YEAH go vote! Is there a specific etiquette on whether participants should cast a vote, since votes are private now? I'm probably just gonna review the other two submissions.
Also Asrama could we have a crit deadline for round 2? Thanks!
Just a single vote for your favorite submission is fine. (not your own)
It is also customary for the participants to do a final critique of the other player's cards when they vote.
Thought: Maybe the CCL should just be 4 (or 5?) "Swiss" rounds instead of cutting people.
Reason: Expands the time per round, lets people participate the whole time.
Drawbacks: The math for the current CCL scoring is intimidating enough that people aren't that keen to host, and this would encourage more of that.
Basically, let's get some ideas for reorganizing this contest so it takes less time to run and is more fun to participate in. There are two main aspects of the CCL that I want to preserve:
Flavor-based continuous challenges (Asrama's story so far this month is a good example)
Making sure every submitted card gets a few peer reviews.
Anything else can go on the chopping block as far as I'm concerned. Alternate scoring methods could be polls, maybe some sort of "awesome/needs improvement" points distributed as you see fit? Flavorful teams are fun but it may also be nice to open up to different numbers/formats of teams.
@GMom: Perhaps instead of teams, each round players could choose their Top 5 from all participants? It could simplify the scoring to a high degree.
Post Top 5 = +1 point.
Review all entries = +2 points.
Each 5th place = +2 points.
Each 4th place = +3 points.
Each 3rd place = +5 points.
Each 2nd place = +7 points.
Each 1st place = +10 points.
One bad round wouldn't be as devastating (a reason some people drop after Round 1), as you could more easily recover in the next. At the end of 4-5 Rounds, a clear winner would still emerge, and without teams, scoring and reviews wouldn't be as unbalanced as they are at times when people decide to drop. I've lost count of the number of times I've been on a team with 3 people prior to Round 4 (just like this month).

May your games be chaotic and your decks be Rogue.
In any swiss tournament, there is a clear incentive for the players to keep going even after initial loses - a chance at a better prize. This is not and cannot be in the CCL, and I feel as though we'll be left with a handful of players at best for the final two rounds.
The other problem is that I'd like to keep the teams as the focal point of the competition, at least for the first half of the rounds. Without it, reviews will get out of hand.
I'd also like to point out that even though the CCLs I've hosted have always been about a story being unfolded over the entire month, I think there is a lot of room for Melvin type CCLs - I recall GM hosting a CCL where we basically built the next set in the Homelands block. it was fun and lend itself really well to the current structure.
There is always the option of expending the scores, like so:
3 points for 1st place.
2 points for 2nd and 3rd places.
1 point for 4th and 5th place.
This might prevent players from rage-quitting after the first round, and should still allow for clear leaders after three preliminary rounds.
In terms of simplifying the system perhaps we stop to use marks out of 100 for each round. The critiques are still top 3 - with the same scoring, however instead of trying to adjust each round, what about after each round we simply assign score such that:
Group X:
Top Scorer Larry - 7pts
Harry Second Best - 6pts
Tina Third - 5pts
etc
Bottom of the Heap Betty - 1pt
Less reason to throw in after a bad round and an easier system to understand.
A big thank you everyone for playing and I will put the full results up later.
